The Pot Still Reserve stands out at the store due to its bottling. This is a bottle youll likely want to keep and continue using as your new whiskey decanter around the home. It features an exceedingly long and thin neck, which widens into a flattened circular bubble of a base, with a cork topper.
Very floral on the nose with wonderful citrus notes more citrus on the palate with loads of honey & then turning quite herbal on the finish. An incredibly different and inviting array of aromas & flavours when water is added!

Willett continues to be one of the hottest names in Kentucky bourbon and rye. The distillery, starting in 2008, built a cult following with its Family Estate line of sourced whiskeys, the origins of which still remain rumors . In addition to Family Estate, Willett also hit the shelves early on with a more widely available bourbon called Pot Still Reserve. Until recent years, this was also a sourced single barrel product, but today its a blend of bourbons bottled in small batches from an unknown distillery with no age statement. It is also presented in one of the most striking bottles out there: a pot still-shaped decanter with a big gold seal on the shoulder that demands a healthy amount of shelf space. We recently cleaned out the shelves at Drinkhacker HQ, so we finally had room to pick up a bottle. Thoughts follow.

Willett Pot Still Reserve bourbon is well-executed small batch bourbon. Compared to other bourbons in this price range, I think it compares well with bourbons from other large Kentucky distilleries . At 94 proof, this bourbon will not be drowned out in many mixed drinks, but would I prefer something a bit higher proof.
With the distinctive packaging, this bourbon also makes a great gift for just about any bourbon drinker. Overall, Willett Pot Still Reserve will not disappoint, but it also doesnt have any wow-factor that sets it apart from the pack. So, if the flavor profile seems to be in your wheelhouse, and you find it at the right price, this is certainly worth a try.

To this day, descendants of Thompson Willett are still carrying on the family tradition of making ?ne Kentucky Bourbon and Kentucky Rye Whiskey at the same spot that Thompson and his family operated over 80 years ago.
In the latter portion of 2011, the family opened a visitor center and tasting room. It is quite common for the visitor center to carry very rare releases of Single Barrel and Small Batch Willett Family Estate Bottled Bourbon and Rye Whiskeys. Daily tours are also offered. We would like to extend a warm welcome.

Willett Pot Still Reserve Bourbon is brand of a bourbon whiskey produced in Bardstown, Kentucky by the Willett Distillery. It is a Kentuckystraight bourbon whiskey brand introduced in 2008 and bottled at 47% abv, with 810 year aging. It is sold in glass 750 ml and 1.75 liter bottles. The company is identified on the product label as the Willett Distilling Company, which was the original name of the company until its name was changed in 1984 to Kentucky Bourbon Distillers, Ltd. . In October 2012, the company announced that it would return to using the Willett name as its primary business name. Recent bottlings are identified on the labels as a small batch bourbon, whereas it was originally released as a single barrel bourbon.
Willett Pot Still Reserve is bottled in a decorative decanter that received a “double gold” award for packaging design at the 2008 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. In addition to the double gold medal for packaging, the product was also awarded a gold medal for taste at the event.
Malt Advocate Magazine rated Willett Pot Still Reserve at 90 on a 100-point rating scale in January 2008. It also included the brand in its 2008 Whisky Awards as one of the top ten new whiskies for 2008.

Nose is “vanilla lemon cake.” The palate is a balance of caramel, vanilla, spices and citrus. I’m not sure if they made the opulent bottle to match the Whiskey or vice versa.

Product Name And History
Although the product has the term pot still in its name, it has been reported that the initial distillation process for the product was performed using the more common column still distillation method with a pot still used only for the doubler stage.
The product is named after the Willett family which founded the company that produces it. The company began as the Willett Distilling Company. John David Willett had been the master distiller for the Moore, Willett & Frenke Distillery, which he had formed with his brother-in-law Thomas S. Moore of Bardstown, and a Mr. Frenke of Louisville. In 1876, Willett fell ill and sold his interest in the company. The resulting company became the Mattingly Moore Distillery. John David Willett would, however, live on for another 38 years after this transaction. He died in 1914.
The construction of the Willett Distilling Company began in the Spring of 1935 , and the company produced its first batch of 300 bushels on March 17, 1936. Five years after founding the Willett Distilling Company, Lambert Willett left Max Selliger & Co. to pursue the family business full-time. Lambert Willett and at least four of his sons held substantial positions of responsibility at the company. Lambert Willett died in 1970.
The company also makes another brand of whiskey with a similar name called Willett Family Reserve. The Family Reserve brand is a limited-production barrel proof single barrel whiskey produced in bottles that resemble wine bottles in shape.

Vital Stats: Willett Pot Still Reserve comes without an age-statement at 94 proof. As mentioned above, Willett now releases this bourbon as a small batch offering. While Willetts own distillate will undoubtedly make its way into various Willett Brands in the future, current bottles probably include sourced bourbon from other Kentucky distillers. Retail price for a 750 mL bottle of Willett Pot Still Reserve varies widely in some areas this bottle retails for under $40, while in others the price approaches $60.
