What Do Those Letters On The Bottle Mean

Rémy Martin fine champagne cognac liquor Chocolate Candy Review!

You’ll notice that Cognac bottles tend to be adorned with an entire alphabet’s worth of letters. What do they mean? VS means “Very Special,” and that the Cognac has been aged for the two-year minimum under the law. VSOP, or “Very Superior Old Pale,” means that the youngest spirit in the blend of brandies is at least four years of age. XO, or “Extra Old,” tells you that, within the blend of brandies comprising that particular Cognac, the youngest has been aged for at least 10 years.

How Is Rmy Martin Cognac Made

Cognac goes through a rigorous production process that starts from the moment grapes are harvested right down to the aging.

The grapes that are used to make the foundational wine are harvested between the end of September and early part of October. They create a white wine that is dry and acidic with no extra sugars required, which helps to produce a wonderfully pure eux-de-vie.

Eux-de-vie is whats produced after the white wine is distilled in small copper stills. The overall distilling process can take anywhere between 24 to 48 hours. Its this distilled product that is then aged in open grain oak casks, which gives the cognac its signature vanilla flavor.

What Is The Difference Between Cognac And Brandy

What is brandy? By definition, brandy is any spirit distilled from the juice of a fruit. There are many examples of brandy distilled from wine, making them a unique expression of specific grapes. Still, plenty of brandy is distilled from the juice of other fruits, including apples , blackberry brandy, and plum brandy slivovitz), Poire Williams, which is made from pears, and many excellent others. The most noted brandy is Cognac, yet many people remain unclear on what it exactly is. So: What is Cognac? And what is Cognac made from? Cognac is a brandy produced in the Cognac region of France, where wine made from Ugni Blanc, Colombard, and Folle Blanche grapes is distilled twice, always in copper pot stills, and aged for at least two years in barrels made of French oak.

Can be found almost anywhere. Decent if a touch pricey to value.

Notes: Produced in the heart of the Cognac region, Remy only uses grapes grown from the Cognac Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne area for this, their VSOP offering. . Distilled in small classic alembic charentais copper stills the resulting eau de vie is then aged in Limousin oak in their private cellars and then is carefully blended to profile. Remy offers many different cognacs to fit ones taste and/or budget within their portfolio. Remys is also actually one of the few producers who bottle a vintage year release, the latest being their 1989 release. Two other cognacs of theirs that we have reviewed are the 1989 Vintage and 1738 Accord Royal

First Impression: Apricots, figs, apples, vanilla, caramel, leather and oily nuts and some oak. A sweet, concentrated champagne or jam like-like smell to it with an admixture of floral scents. Very distinctive, aromatic with a nice blend of heavier bass notes to it also.

Appearance: Attractive red/gold color, leaves thin coat on swirling. Could be mistaken for a bourbon in color.

Taste: Sweetish entry , then drying pleasantly. Medium silky body, with a lot of ripe fruit notes, with concentrated almost raisin or ice wine type notes with hints of vanilla and oak pepper and a lovely lingering finish.

Other: One of the more outstanding products in large portfolio of products ranging in age and price.

As a result, a bottle of Martell VSOP includes prices between $34.99 $46.99, which is in the same cost range as Rémy Martin VSOP, the worlds favorite Fine Champagne.

Paul Masson

Paul Masson is a brandy made from California, United States. It is not considered to belong to cognac brands which means the prices differ.

The Paul Masson Brandy VSOP in 750ml bottle ranges from around $13 $16 while a Rémy Martin in the same volume is at around $37 $41.

Courvoisier

Courvoisier is another cognac house which means the prices would be high. A Courvoisier VSOP Exclusif in a 700ml range costs roughly $89.99 $95.99, which is way expensive compared to the VSOP of a Rémy Martin in the same volume.

The Cognac is expensive because the grapes they use are only limited as well as its unique aging process.

An E& J brandy costs about $20.99 $22.99, which is less expensive than Rémy Martin. It also produces products like beer, wine, and scotch.

Hennessy

The aging process also indicates the price range of Cognac. A 750ml Hennessy VS is available on the market at around $33.99 $38.99.

    How To Drink Rmy Martin

The best way to enjoy Rémy Martin is to sip it neat, to truly bring out its dazzling assortment of fruity, floral and spicy aromas. Its great served on the rocks but, traditionally, Cognac is served at room temperature or ever so slightly warmed.

To drink Rémy Martin, pour a measure of the spirit into a snifter glass. While Cognac can be served in a variety of different glassware, a snifter is the best shape for swirling the liquid around to release its rich aromas. The shape also allows the Cognac to warm slightly in your hand, which further adds to its diverse flavor.

Rémy Martin is also a delicious option when served with ice or mixed into a long drink. When it comes to cocktails, choose citrus flavors that complement the sweetness of the spirit. Or, pair with a simple non-alcoholic mixer for a long drink that allows the spirit to shine through.
