Brandi Carlile Played Madison Square Garden With Brittany Howard
Brandi Carlile played a sold-out Madison Square Garden on Saturday night , with a sprawling set of originals and covers featuring a nine-piece band. She brought out Celisse Henderson for covers of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” and Radiohead’s “Creep” in the main set, and during the encore she brought out Allison Russell for their collaborative track “You’re Not Alone,” and opener Brittany Howard for a cover of James Brown classic “It’s A Man’s Man’s World.” Brandi also covered now-frequent collaborator Joni Mitchell — who she recently announced a big show with for next year — playing “Woodstock” solo to begin the encore. NJ.com wrote of the MSG show:
Saturday was all about Brandi, the six-time Grammy Award winner, who earned another five nominations last year for her eloquent, folk-imbued and propulsive 2021 album In These Silent Days, and its soaring centerpiece Right on Time… Upon the numbers conclusion, she joked the crowd didnt sing quite loud enough on the towering chorus, and led them again a cappella. All made sure to belt with abandon in this moment, thrilling both Carlile and themselves.

At Brandi Carliles Peerless Concert Torrents Of Rock Euphoria
You think youve experienced unfiltered rock euphoria.
Then you see Brandi Carlile perform at Madison Square Garden. You listen to the Americana star play The Story, the song that launched the singer-songwriter from a small town in rural Washington onto the national stage, in 2007.
As the cresting, crashing, exhilarating rendition complete with a masterful string quartet and Carlile hammering her guitar at center stage comes to a close, you look around the sold-out venue, 15,000 strong. You see couples hugging in joy and triumph. You watch a nearby mother and her adult daughter clutching each other, both weeping tears of joy.
And you listen to the response not a roar but an eruption of spirit and gratitude for a moment not soon forgotten. Its as loud as youve ever heard the worlds most famous arena .
No, everything else was, by comparison, a faint apparition. Saturday night was the stuff of life, the brief ecstasy that makes all the tragedy and chaos of human existence worth it to revel in such collective rapture, delivered by a generational talent who beyond her bounding ability exudes pure wonder and passion.
Fans may recall the last time Carlile, 41, played the Garden, in 2019, where she took no moment for granted and promptly unfurled the gig of her life. The image of Carlile kneeling down to kiss the legendary floor and later bursting into tears at the moments immensity is burned into my memory.
I dropped the baby! Carlile cried.

Brandi Carlile Concert Review: The Story Of Success At Td Garden
This is by far the biggest show weve ever played in Boston, Brandi Carlile said as she greeted the roaring crowd of TD Garden. Its utterly surreal.
The experience was surreal for the audience, too. Carlile, a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter from Washington state, made it easy to forget that anything existed outside of the arena. She is one of the most phenomenal artists on tour this year, guaranteed to deliver captivating performances, entertaining stories, talented guests, and vocals that sound even better live than on record.
Brittany Howard, lead vocalist and guitarist of Alabama Shakes, opened the concert with songs from her debut solo album Jaime. She alternated between sweet, mellow tunes that had the audience swaying with their loved ones and bold, high-energy performances amplified by shredding guitar, dancing, and passionate lyrics about unity and strength. Howard was the perfect opening act an invigorating presence whose mind-blowing voice made attending the concert worthwhile long before Carlile took the stage.
Carlile performed others music just as well as her own. She paid homage to David Bowie and Radiohead with performances of Space Oddity and Creep that would have made the creators proud. She captured the intensity of the original songs, but her down-to-earth personality and smooth vocals brought a unique warmth to her renditions.
Loretta Lynn Memorial Service To Air On Cmt
As a very emotional Faith Hill said, she didnt just push boundaries, she shredded them. Via video, Taylor Swift, whose ability to write songs with great universal appeal drawn from the most personal details of her own life takes a page from Lynn, praised Lynn for saying things that might make people uncomfortable with her brutal honesty. Also, via video, Kacey Musgraves laughed about being a 9-year old performing such feisty, grown-up tunes as Fist City and You Aint Woman Enough.
In a bit of gender bending that worked very well , Darius Rucker delivered a strident Fist City and George Strait drew a rave reaction for his take on Lynns first No. 1, Dont Come Home a Drinkin .
The services emotional highpoint came toward the end when Lynns granddaughter, Emmy Russell and Willie Nelsons son, Lukas Nelson, sang Lay Me Down, a gorgeous song about death and rebirth that Lynn and Nelson recorded in 2016 the only duet by the two icons.
The daunting task of taking on Lynns anthem, Coal Miners Daughter, fell to The Highwomen Amanda Shires, Natalie Hemby, Brandi Carlile and Brittney Spencer who delivered a resonant version to close the service.
The celebration, produced by CMT and Sandbox Productions in partnership with the late legends family, will re-air on CMT on Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. ET and Nov. 6 at 11 a.m. ET. The special will also be made available on Paramount+ in early 2023.
