Sweet And Spicy Margarita Recipe

How To Make Spicy Simple Syrup

Spicy Cucumber Jalapeno Margarita | Easy Margarita Recipes| Booze On The Rocks

Hey, theres a reason they call it simple syrup. Its literally just sugar dissolved in water. It KILLS me when I see people buying it in a fancy grocery or liquor store. Heres how to make your own spice infused syrup at home.

To make spicy simple syrup, pour 1 cup of water and 1 cup of granulated sugar in a saucepan. Slice two Thai chilis in half lengthwise and add to the pan.

Stir and heat the mixture on medium high heat until it simmers and the sugar has dissolved.

Allow the simple syrup to cool to room temperature and strain to remove the chilis before using in a cocktail. It will keep in the fridge for up to one month.

* To reduce the heat slightly, remove the seeds before steeping. To reduce the heat even more, use only one red chili or add jalapeño slices. Remove the seeds, then add to the syrup mixture.

This Is A Sweet Sour And Spicy Drink To Light Up Any Night

Recipe by Karen Rosenbloom, for the Brainfood event in collaboration with Spoon University X TABASCO® Brand.

According to TikTok, spicy margaritas are the hottest drink nowadays.

Traditionally, spicy margs are made by infusing liquor or simple syrup with fresh jalapeños, which can be very time consuming. But my best friend and I discovered you can easily skip that process by adding a few dashes of the TABASCO® Brand Green Sauce to a classic margarita mixture.

Thanks to the jalapeños, the zesty TABASCO® Brand Green Sauce compliments the fresh lime juice and tequila in the drink. This is a sweet, sour, and spicy drink to light up any night.

If you are under the age of 21, this can easily be made into a mocktail by substituting the tequila for 1.5 oz of seltzer water, and the Triple Sec for 1/2 oz of orange juice.

Tips To Prepare The Best Spicy Margarita Recipe

If youre looking to spice up your margarita, we have a few tips to help you get started and make the best Spicy Margarita.

First, make sure you have plenty of jalapeños on hand. You can find them in the produce section at most grocery stores, and theyre easy to chop if you have a sharp knife. If you dont have a cutting board around, just put them on a plate and use your hands to chop them up!

Next, peel off the outermost layer of skin from the jalapeño. This will help keep some of the heat from getting into the rest of your drinkand itll also give you something fun to snack on while youre mixing.

Next comes slicing! Slice each jalapeño into about 8 pieces .

Now its time for juicing! Use a juicer or hand blender to extract as much liquid from those peppers as possibleyou want just enough juice that when mixed with tequila and lime juice, it makes 1 cup total liquid volume. If theres extra pulp left over after juicing, throw those pieces into a food processor.

Garnish and enjoy our Spicy Margaritas.

Spicy Margaritas are both savory and sweet and pack the perfect jalapeno punch. Additionally, I love adding egg white to the mix to give the margarita a beautiful, foamy finish.

How To Make A Spicy Jalapeno Margarita

This part is just as simple as the ingredient list thanks to a few tips, tricks, and handy tools that I have up my sleeve Heres how I make this drink so that I can get poolside ASAP:

  • Muddle the Jalapeno in the bottom of a pitcher, muddle the jalapeno slices for easy jalapeno seed removal) with the lime juice 10-12 presses with a muddler or back of a wooden spoon will do!
  • Add the Tequila + Honey add the tequila and honey, stir to combine thoroughly or until all the honey is dissolved.
  • Dress the Rim with Sea Salt pour the sea salt in the bottom of a small bowl. Dip the top of each glass in the margarita mixture, let it drain off, then press the top of the glass into the bowl of salt. Gently tap the glass with your hand to knock off any excess.
  • Pour, Garnish, and Enjoy Fill each glass with fresh ice and pour in the margarita mix, then garnish with fresh lime and cilantro, and ENJOY!
  • Thats it! The cat is officially out of the bag. You know the key to my heart: good summer reads and a fresh lime jalapeno margarita. You can find me sitting poolside while I laugh and cry out loud to my books and asking the bartender if he can sweeten my margarita with honey instead of syrup.

Use Aejo Or Reposado Tequila For Smooth Flavor

Lastly, this margarita uses barrel-aged tequila such as añejo or reposado to give it a toasty flavor. These are tequilas that have been aged in wooden containers. Aged tequilas are generally smoother and have flavors of vanilla, spice, caramel, and butter that pair well with pineapple.

    Spicy Margarita Recipe Tips

    • Taste and adjust. Whenever you make a cocktail at home, taste and adjust to find a balance of flavors you love. If you prefer a sweeter drink, add an extra splash of simple syrup or orange juice. For more tartness, squeeze in extra lime. If you want it spicier, add extra jalapeño slices and let it sit for a few more minutes. Mess with this recipe, and make it your own!
    • If its too strong, let the ice begin to melt. If your jalapeño margarita tastes too strong when you first try it, let it sit for a few minutes at room temperature. As the ice melts, it will dilute the drink. If its still stiffer than youd like it to be, top your glass with sparkling water or add extra orange juice.
    • Salt the rim. Honestly, this cocktail tastes great on its own, but if you want to take it to the next level, salt the rim of your glass. To do this, rub the rim of an empty margarita glass with a lime wedge, and dip it in a small plate of coarse sea salt or kosher salt. Mix up the cocktails in a pitcher, fill your glass with ice, and pour the drink into your prepared glass. Thats it!
    • Dont forget the chips! No jalapeño margarita night is complete without tortilla chips and dip! I love to pair mine with tomatillo salsa, pico de gallo, or classic guac. If Im in the mood for something fruity, Ill make mango or pineapple salsa, too! This spicy margarita would also be fantastic with nachos, taquitos, or veggie tacos.

How Spicy Is This Jalapeo Simple Syrup

Figuring out how spicy you want to make your spicy simple syrup is challenging. It will also vary based on a persons preferences.

I want to preface this by saying I am not the type of person who loves spicy food. I get 2 stars when I order Thai food and I rarely add hot sauce to things.

With that in mind, for some reason, I love spicy cocktails. Ive always loved that little tickle you get with each sip of a spicy drink.

When I order a spicy margarita, I want it to be just that. Spicy! It needs to have a kick and this spicy simple syrup delivers.

Dont be scared! Keep in mind that it needs to be very spicy because youre only using a small amount in each drink. Using 3 jalapeños works perfectly for me, but you can adjust this based on your preferences.

The Story Behind The Spicy Margarita

    Lemon Lime Ginger Margaritas

While the classic is the worlds favorite tequila cocktail, theres no harm in adding a spicy twist to the tangy drink. In this recipe, the piquancy of birds eye chili enhances the earthiness of the tequilas agave, offering a welcomed contrast to the citrusy sweetness of orange liqueur. This results in a burst of flavor with each sip that is familiar and exciting, all at once.

Crafting the birds eye chili syrup may take a few minutes, but we promise its worth it. The syrups heat will be somewhat tempered by triple secs sweetness, meaning it will be just present enough to give your cocktail a lively kick.

How To Choose The Best Tequila

While you really can choose whichever Tequila you prefer, Silver or Blanco Tequila is my go-to for this margarita recipe. It has a more mild flavor and blends super well in margaritas.

Gold Tequila like Anejo is aged longer and is best sipped neat. Reposado is also aged, but in a pinch would be a good second option if you dont have Blanco Tequila on hand.

    How To Make Spicy Margaritas

Start with the rim first. On a plate, mix the smoky salt and chili powder. You can control how spicy you want the margaritas. I put 1 tsp of smoky salt and 1/2 tsp of chili powder but that might be a ridiculous amount of chili for some. So start with a pinch, and work your way up from there.Cut a lime wedge. Hold the glass and run the lime’s pulp along the outside of the rim until it is covered with juice.

Hold the glass upside down and dip the wet rim into the smoky spicy salt. Press gently and twist it around until your glass rim is evenly coated.

Add ice cubes if using. Now it’s time to blend the actual margarita cocktail.

You can use a cocktail shaker or add all ingredients directly into your glass. Use a shot glass as a measuring device. Add 40 ml of silver tequila and 20 ml triple sec. Top up with freshly squeezed lime juice, orange juice and mango juice. Mix all ingredients with a cocktail spoon.Add a lime slice as decoration and served immediately.

That’s it. Super quick and easy to make. To add a few notes as I think these are important.

If you want a super spicy margarita, add a little more chili powder to the smoky salt. To check if it’s good, just press your finger onto the mixture and taste it. Adjust the seasoning so you love it. I normally drink my margarita by working my way around the rim of the glass, this is how much I love the combo of smoky salt and spice.
