What Is A Smash Cocktail

Jim Beam Peach Cocktail Recipe Contest | Whiskey Bourbon Summer

As Ive been reading up on the smash, Ive realized that while its a summer staple on many craft cocktail menus, its a drink without strict definition. The ingredients are pretty widely open to improvisation, though there are a few constant elements.

A smash cocktail typically contains a seasonal fruit and/or herb, muddled with sugar or simple syrup, shaken with a spirit like bourbon or whiskey , strained, and served over plenty of ice.

Oftentimes, the smash is mixed or finished with water or a splash of something fizzy, like seltzer or ginger beer.

The smash cocktail is icy, refreshing, and great for highlighting seasonal fruits, like peaches, berries , and cherries.

What To Mix With Whiskey

Are you getting slightly bored with drinking whiskey with a water chaser? It might be time to experiment with whiskey mixers.

There are several mixers that can turn a pretty bland whiskey into a delicious drink that will have you coming back for more.

In this post Ill share some of the best whiskey mixers.

Peach Bourbon Sour Faqs

Do I have to use a cocktail shaker to make the whiskey sour?

No. You can add all the ingredients to an old fashioned glass, filled with ice and give it a good stir. I prefer the shaker because the simple syrup can tend to be thick and it blends more completely when shaken, but Im not the food police and if you dont mind a little settling at the bottom, then who am I to say no?

Can I make a bourbon sour with a different flavor simple syrup?

You can. It wont be a peach bourbon sour, of course, but thats ok. Try it with these infused simple syrups as well: Guava Vanilla Simple Syrup, Rhubarb Ginger, Simple Syrup, Honey Thyme Simple Syrup, Passion Fruit Syrup

Can I make this drink in a pitcher?

Theoretically, yes. Instead multiply the measurements of the ingredients by how many drinks you want and assemble them in a pitcher. Refrigerate to chill. To serve: add ice to the glasses and pour in the drink. Have garnishes available in a separate bowl.

  • Summertime Peach Whiskey Sour Recipe

Wondering what to mix with whiskey? Try peaches! This ...

One of our favorite restaurants to eat at is True Food Kitchen. Founded by Dr. Andrew Weil, the food is nutritious and always in-season. They have yummy food and the most delicious cocktails too! And I admit that sometimes I go just for their drinks. Hehe!

In fact, my Fall Spiced Whiskey Sour was created based off their fall menu. We made that drink so many times in the fall and winter months last year. It was an all-around favorite. So, now that it is summer I am sharing another True Food Kitchen copycat recipe. This time I am recreating their Peaches and Bourbon recipe.

Peaches and whiskey are a match made in heaven. Add in some lemon juice and a pinch of cinnamon, and this Peach Whiskey Sour tastes like a fresh peach pie. I kid you not!

And I have created a shortcut so you can whip up a batch of these cocktails without having to have fresh peaches on hand!

Ok, lets get down to the mixing of these peach whiskey sours.

The Peaches & Bourbon cocktail at True Food Kitchen is definitely peach forward. So, I knew I wanted to have that fresh fruit flavor and not use a peach flavored liquor. Ahem, peach schnapps is not coming into play here! To get that fresh summer peach flavor, I tried two different methods. And both proved to be amazing!

    A Whiskey For Each Season

The Bird Dog Whiskey ranges interesting thing is that certain flavors are more popular at different times of the year.

Just like a cold beer is more appealing in summer than in winter, Bird Dogs fruity flavors like peach are more popular in the summer months. On the other hand, cinnamon is a favorite in winter.

What Else Do I Need To Make A Bourbon Peach Smash

The Bourbon Peach Smash is such an easy cocktail to make, which is fitting for the relaxed feel of summer. Tool-wise, all you need is a shaker with a strainer, a muddler, and a rocks glass.

You also need simple syrup, which is a 1:1 ratio of sugar and hot water, stirred until dissolved and cooled. Its as easy to make as it sounds, and it keeps in the refrigerator for about a month.

White sugar is most common, but you can use just about any type of sugar or sweetener to make a simple syrup. I often make simple syrup from honey, and for this cocktail, I used light brown sugar to complement the peaches.

You can serve this cocktail over plentiful crushed ice or cubes.

Whichever route you choose, the key word when it comes to ice for this cocktail is plentiful. The Bourbon Peach Smash is best served icy. Fill up the glass with ice, pour, put your feet up, and sip!

What If I Dont Have Fresh Peaches

Thats ok! I love making this drink in the spring and summer when we are in peak peach season in North Carolina, because in my opinion, there is nothing more delicious than a juicy ripe peach.

However, sometimes we just cant make fresh peaches work and so I have two substitution ideas for you if you cant get your hands on fresh peaches or the ones at the store or farmers market arent up to your standards.

You can also use canned peach slices or diced peaches or peach jam. If you are going to pick either of these options, I would definitely make a peach simple syrup and would not muddle the fruit or peach jam in a cocktail shaker because it would have a totally different and much sweeter than fresh peaches.

    Cook Time: Total Time:

A refreshing twist on a timeless classic, made with fresh peaches and Coopers Craft Barrel Reserve Bourbon, this peach whiskey smash recipe is an easy and delicious drink perfect for sipping on warm summer nights!

    • For the peach simple syrup:
    • 2 ripe peaches, diced
    • 4 ounces peach simple syrup
    • 4 ounces Coopers Craft Barrel Reserve
    • Fresh ice
    • Peach slices and fresh mint sprigs for garnish

What Is The Flavor Profile Of Fireball Whiskey

Peach Whiskey cocktails | 2 amazing drinks!

The way Fireball drinkers describe the beverage is very simple it tastes like drinking red spicy candies! Since the alcoholic beverage has a lot of cinnamon in it, it combines the ingredients sweet taste with a bit of spice.

Fireball is bottled at 33% alcohol, and its taste is also very similar to the Canadian sweet that shares its name, the Atomic Fireball.

The whiskey was created by a Canadian bartender who wanted liquor to accompany him during the long, cold days.

To make Fireball, professionals follow the usual procedures of whiskey-making. The experts obtain alcohol and ferment it, and then they add several sweeteners and cinnamon flavors that make up its characteristic taste.

Even though its not the most famous drink in the world, its delicious and it could lift your spirits and liven up any party, so give it a try if you can!

Review: Old Camp Peach Pecan Whiskey

Sweet and lowdown, you got it: Old Camp is a whiskey from a country duo called Florida Georgia Line. Ive never heard of em, but once you set foot in the spirits world, eventually we were bound to cross paths.

Essentially a novelty spirit, Old Camp is mystery whiskey thats heavily doctored with peach and pecan flavors.

How heavy? Peach candy and candied nuts are really all you can catch on the nose, overpowering like sticking your face in a tub of some kind of super-Southern ice cream. On the palate, an overwhelming sweetness hits you right in the face, all peaches in syrup, maple, brown sugar, and flamed bananas. It takes quite awhile for the initial rush of sugar to fade, and after a minute or so the more savory pecan character finally shows its face. This is actually the most engaging part of the spirit, a comforting and authentic hint of roasted nuts that goes a long way toward redeeming the sugar bomb thats come before.

Think of Old Camp as an upscale Southern Comfort, and consider using it the same way: Very sparingly.
