Easy Home Recipe For Vanilla Vodka

Gluten Free Vodka Kombucha Cocktail

You will need 1 vanilla bean, approximately 6 inches long is ideal, for every 750 mL bottle of vodka.

  • Slice the bean lengthwise to allow the flavor better access to the vodka.
  • Place both halves of the pod directly into the bottle.
  • Seal the lid and find a safe place to allow the vanilla to infuse over a minimum of 1 week. Every few days give the bottle a shake to help disperse the flavor.
  • After about 5 days you should notice the color of the vodka deepening to an amber color and, if you open the bottle, you should smell the heavenly fragrance of vanilla.

If youre happy with the infusion, strain the vodka into another container without the bean and label it clearly for future use.

Heres A Little More Info From Folks Who Know

The U.S. FDA and TTB have ruled that distilled spirits with no additives are 100% safe, because the gluten protein is left behind in the distillation process.

The European Food Safety Authority considers distilled alcohol unlikely to cause a severe reaction in those with grain allergies and the Canadian Celiac Association allows distilled alcoholic beverages for people with Celiac even if theyre made with wheat, rye, or barley, since the distillation process should remove the reaction-causing proteins.

Beyond Celiac says: pure, distilled liquor, even if made from wheat, barley, or rye, is considered gluten-free. Most liquors are safe for people with celiac disease because of the distillation process. However, the Celiac Sprue Foundation previously recommended no hard liquor from grains containing gluten, at least during the early phases of a gluten-free diet.

So, most of the experts say your Vodka Collins is fine no matter what, some advise waiting a few months after going gluten-free. I say: check the Collins mix to make sure its gluten-free too.

Which Vodka Makes The Best Homemade Vanilla Extract

    Is Vodka Gluten Free?

I have to admit it, I love vodka. It is not just my favorite liquor to concoct mixed drinks with, but it makes excellent sauces, can help preserve your baked goods, and it is the reason that we can have pure vanilla extract. Really, what’s not to love?

However, when I bake with vodka, I want the best of the best. Especially when I’m using this kind of alcohol to make homemade vanilla extract. Trust me, you want the best ingredients to make your own vanilla extract too, it’s a thing. This is the way to have the best vanilla extract.

Therefore, because I love to experiment in the kitchen, I took it upon myself to test out several different kinds of vodka to see which made the best homemade vanilla extract.

It’s also an easy process, with essentially no prep time. Start by choosing your vanilla beans, which you can find in the spice aisle or bulk area of the grocery store. The most popular are Madagascar vanilla beans. Madagascar beans, also known as Bourbon vanilla beans, have the most vanilla flavor.

Also, don’t throw away the vanilla beans. Reuse the flavorful seeds in different recipes. I also like to dry out the split vanilla beans and throw them into my sugar container for vanilla sugar.

    Cold River Blueberry Vodka

Cold River Blueberry Vodka is Cold Rivers one and only flavored vodka and has been for many years. Its made with the same care and attention to detail as their regular base vodka, and this shows. The entire process happens in one place where it can be carefully monitored and the quality of the final product is unmatched.

The vodka itself is made from potatoes grown in Maine, where the wild blueberries for each bottle are found as well. They steep the blueberries for five days to extract and trap their sweet, delicious essence which is then infused into their expertly-made potato vodka.

The profile is heavy on the blueberry, with soft, sweet, fresh aromas of blueberry muffins coming through on the nose. The palate follows with notes of fresh blueberries and a gentle, perfectly balanced sweetness that reminds you of a bakery with a bit of lavender in the background. Its a delightful, berry-charged experience every time and its even better when served on the rocks.

Does Vanilla Vodka Have Sugar In It

Some flavored vodkas do have sugar because theyre flavored with natural ingredients, such as vanilla beans, which have sugar.

Some brands may even add sugar specifically to further enhance the flavor. This is especially common in sweet flavorings such as vanilla however, every brand is unique and not all of them have added sugar.

Similar to our recommendation for gluten-free status, if youre highly concerned with sugar intake, its best to contact the company directly to request information that may not be freely advertised on the bottle or website.

Things You Should Know About Svedka Vodka

Even if youre not a vodka fan, you might already know the name Svedka. This could be because of the aggressive marketing campaign the brand launched in the mid-aughts featuring a provocative human-like female robot. Or, it could be because the Swedish brand has been on the market for more than 20 years.

Although the robot was eventually dropped as a spokesperson, Svedka remains a top-selling vodka today. Before you buy your next bottle, read on for nine more things you should know about Svedka.

Review: New Amsterdam Gluten Free Vodka

New Amsterdam Gluten Free Vodka was just released. The bottles painted trim is brown for those keeping track at home. For those unfamiliar with New Amsterdam, their flavored vodka comes in bottles matching the fruit flavors with corresponding bottle trim colors. NA Gluten Free joins a vodka lineup that includes 9 flavored vodkas, a 100 proof vodka, and their Original New Amsterdam Vodka. These vodkas are all made from the finest grains. No specific grains are listed. New Amsterdam Gluten Free Vodka is made from the finest corn grown in the heartlands. It is distilled five times and meticulously filtered three times before bottling at 80 proof. Only Smirnoff and Titos sell more vodka in the US. Last year New Amsterdam sold over 5 million cases of vodka. Not bad considering their first bottle was sold in 2011. The aroma is canned corn with an ethanol backing. The sweet vanilla entry is joined by lemon and boiled corn. It fades with lemon candy, creamed corn, and a hint of cocoa. The warm finish is semidry with mineral, 2% milk, bittersweet charcoal, and a mild alcohol sting. Priced under $15, I picked my bottle up for $10.99, New Amsterdam Gluten Free is a value priced vodka with a nice flavor profile, that will mix well in cocktails. It certainly tastes better than gluten free bread.

If your vanilla vodka need is more urgent, you can try using vanilla extract with conventional vodka.

Using vanilla extract will not be as potent or well-blended as one of the vanilla vodkas on our list would be, but the fragrance will be there and that is half the experience at least.

Pure, real vanilla extract will give you the best results.

We wouldnt recommend trying to flavor a shot of vodka with vanilla, but mixing 1 teaspoon of vanilla into a full cocktail with conventional vodka will add a hint of vanilla flavor and aroma in a pinch.

But There Is One More Thing To Watch Out For

Below, youll find a listing of all the gluten free vodkas that you can joy. But remember, some vodkas do come in special flavors, so its equally as important to make sure that those flavors are also gluten free.

Typically there arent any issues with vodka flavors containing gluten, but its just a precautionary.

So with that being said, lets jump straight into this gluten free vodka list!

Can You Drink Vanilla Vodka Straight

You can drink vanilla vodka straight, but, as with any other type of spirit, the quality of the vodka will greatly impact your enjoyment of the beverage. It is best enjoyed chilled, in a chilled shot glass.

You may also want to add ice to have it on the rocks but its not generally a sipping beverage but rather a shot.

The flavor added to the vodka makes it immediately more appealing to many, especially when compared to drinking traditional vodka straight.

Good quality vodka has a pure flavor that is perfect to add to mixed drinks, but purchasing it pre-flavored with vanilla adds a mellow, earthy sweetness without any extras.

If you are drinking your vanilla vodka straight, you may still want to have a chaser handy to compensate for the signature burn. A chaser can be juice, soda, or even a coffee or energy drink.

Nearly anything that you would mix vanilla vodka with will work well as a chaser, but naturally you will want it in smaller quantities.

Its Made With Wheat Its Also Gluten

According to science , pure, distilled vodka, even if made with wheat, barley, or rye, is considered gluten-free. Again, thats because any gluten from the base grains gets distilled out. But that doesnt necessarily mean that people with a sensitivity to gluten should start mixing Screwdrivers. Tipplers with Celiac disease report mixed reactions to vodka, plus gluten can show up in vodka in the form of flavorings and other ingredients added after distillation. So, as with any beverage, choose your vodka wisely.
