Make The Toasted Pecan Whiskey

Preheat the oven, and place the pecans on a baking sheet.

Transfer the pecans to the oven and toast for 10-15 minutes or until browned and fragrant.

Please keep an eye on the pecans as youre toasting them, as they burn quickly and unexpectedly. Youll have to start over if theyre burned because the burnt pecans will give the whiskey an acrid taste.

When theyre toasted, remove em from the oven, and let them cool completely.

Transfer to a mason jar, and pour the whiskey on top of them.

Let the whiskey infuse for 3-4 days. When done, remove the pecans from the whiskey and throw them out. If the pecans stay in the whiskey longer, youll run the risk of them drying out the whiskey, and we dont want that to happen.

Make The Toasted Pecan Old Fashioned

In an Old Fashioned glass, measure the sugar cube and dash in the Angostura bitters.

Use a muddler to break down the sugar, as well as combine it with the bitters. Be sure to coat the sides of the glass as you do this!

Place whiskey stones or a large ice cube inside the glass, then pour the Toasted Pecan Whiskey over the cubes.

Swirl the contents of the glass to mix, and enjoy immediately!

Y’all know I love cocktails, but you should also know that this Bourbon Pecan Pie Cocktail recipe was made possible because Drizly supplied me with all of the alcohol needed to make this cocktail idea a reality. All opinions are my own.

Right off the bat, I’m going to have to admit: I don’t like pecan pie. But ya know what I DO like? Bourbon. And Vodka. And cocktails. So when it comes to pecan pie at Thanksgiving and Christmas, I like mine in a glass as a Bourbon Pecan Pie Cocktail.

This cocktail is sweeter than my usual cocktails, but don’t let that fool you. It’s strong. REALLY strong. And hey, pecan pie is sweet! For me, TOO sweet, which is why I much prefer its flavors cut with a little bite of booze.

I like it over ice , but you could definitely make this Bourbon Pecan Pie Cocktail into a Bourbon Pecan Pie Martini by shaking it over ice and serving it up instead of making it in the glass on the rocks.

Pecans are not a necessary garnish, but I think they liven things up a little bit. Scatter some around the area where you are making the drink so that you feel very food-blogger while you are making it.

Food bloggers always like to scatter things around.

This Toasted Pecan Old Fashioned was inspired by my infused Candy Cane Vodka.

Candy Cane Vodka is one of my recipes that explodes this time of year, and since its gone over so well , I wanted to make something similar.

When my friend Susannah suggested making an infused whiskey, I knew it needed to be done.

The answer came in the form of holiday inspiration. Specifically, the Bourbon Pecan Pie that I bring to Thanksgiving every year.

So I toasted pecans, let them cool and threw them in a jar of whiskey. Then I let em hang out for a few days. And when they were complete, I opened the jar and made Old Fashioneds.

The end result is delightful!

I like to use one of my mason jars to infuse the bourbon with the pecan pie flavor that makes this cocktail truly unique. I love to also imbibe in the pecan pie bourbon on the rocks after a delicious meal. It also makes for a fun hostess gift if you want to surprise whoever is hosting Thanksgiving dinner this year!

To make the cocktail, you need standard bar items like a cocktail spoon, cocktail shaker, and cocktail strainer.

When you are serving your cocktail in one of your double old fashioned glasses, I love to use an ice cube made in these sphere ice molds. The ice melts a lot slower so the cocktail doesnt get diluted! Its one of my must-haves in our freezer all the time.

Waxahachies first craft distillery is coming to the city from the “backwoods” by the end of the year.

Backwoods Craft Spirits is an American-owned liquor company that produces and sells its own blends and shine of whiskey, rum, tequila and vodka craft drinks. Their best-selling item is a 50-proof Pecan Pie liqueur that was voted Best Pecan Liqueur in 2015 by the Bar Business Magazine.

Thats our number one item, owner Mark Weaver expressed. It tastes exactly like pecan pie in a bottle.

Weaver has been in the adult beverage business for over 35 years. Weaver said hes worked for several major companies coast-to-coast, including Coors Brewing Company, Woodchuck Hard Cider and Chatham Imports, Inc.

Its been a long road, Weaver expressed. You would not believe what it takes to get this done.

But about 15 years ago, Weaver saw something happen that changed his perspective of the industry craft beer entered the scene.

According to a 2018 article from The Atlantic, the number of brewery establishments in the nation expanded by a factor of six from 200816. The number of brewery workers expanded as well, increasing by 120 percent in that same period.

In 2017, approximately 70,000 people were employed in the brewery industry, which is about three times the amount it was 10 years ago, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In short, Weaver saw the potential for craft liquors to succeed in the same way that craft beer did and he wanted in on it.
