A Premium Tequila Requires Premium Pias

Patrón tequila is made at the Hacienda Patrón, a colonial mansion located in the Jalisco Highlands in Mexico.;

One of the many things that make Patrón specialand allows it to charge drinkers such a steep priceis the fact that its made entirely from the blue weber agave plant.;

This is a plant that takes eight or so years to reach the requisite level of ripeness, but Patrón is well rewarded for its patience. By waiting for the plant to fully ripen, the brands jimadores take advantage of its optimum level of sweetness, hand-selecting those piñasor fruitswith the highest sugar content.

The difference is impressive. While the average piña is 22% sugar, those used by Patrón are 26% sugar.

These piñas are then chopped and cooked in small brick ovens for around 70 hours to help the sugars break down. The fruit is then crushed and ground using a mix of the modern Roller Mill method and the traditional Tahona wheel.;

The latter is a labour-intensive process that involves chiselling a chunk of volcanic stone into a wheel. This wheel is then pulled with a mechanical arm across the roasted agave hearts to extract the juice.;

This method is around 500 years old and originally donkeys were used to haul the stone. Youll be glad to hear no donkeys suffer in the making of Patrón, but their modernised version of the Tahona wheel is part of the reason their tequila tastes so good.

It Started With A Bottle Not A Recipe

As a premium tequila, Patrón is made with 100 percent Blue Weber Agave, a recipe developed in an era drowning in mixto tequila . But it wasnt agave but the beauty of the hand-blown glass bottle that inspired the brand. DeJorias future business partner brought the beautiful bottle back from a business trip to Mexico, and while what was inside was apparently a nightmare, the bottle itself was so impressive it inspired the simply perfect catchphrase of the brand.

The Spirit Of Sustainability

Patrón is also well-regarded for its commitment to sustainability. The company tries to ensure its entire production process is eco-friendly and environmentally conscious.

For example, the remains of the agave hearts are composted and used on the haciendas garden and also shared with the local community. The company has also installed a natural gas pipeline to reduce carbon emissions. And the hacienda has a reverse osmosis irrigation system that recovers around 70% of wastewater from the production process.

Cheap Patron Tequila Prices

The price of Patron Tequilas cheapest bottle, the Patron XO Cafe , ranges from $21.99 $24.99. This is a low-proof and dry liqueur made from the combination of the most refined coffee essence and Patron Silver. The product is typically used as a dessert ingredient and in cocktail mixes, but it also makes an excellent drink for sipping.

Patron XO Cafes price range is still higher compared to the lowest priced bottle of another known brand in the spirits industry, Jose Cuervo, the Jose Cuervo Especial Silver . The latter comes at prices lower than $20. The price range of the most expensive bottle of Jose Cuervo, on the other hand, the Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia, is comparable to Patrons Gran Patron Platinum at around $129.99 to $199.99.

Patrn Is Kind Of Like Bordeaux

Speaking of Patróns agave plants, theyre not cultivated at Hacienda Patrón. Like the grapes used to make those mega-expensive Bordeaux wines, the agave plants that go into Patrón are carefully selected from a variety of producers. Its sort of like the difference between making a meal with whatevers in your fridge versus being super rich and picking out the best ingredients from different gourmet stores, most likely while traveling by chopper.

Is Patrn Silver Worth The Price

As much as we enjoy Patrón, I do not recommend purchasing it at full retail price. There are better tasting tequilas available that are a better use of my money. I would take the blanco from Corazon over Patrón any day.

If Patrón Silver is on sale for anything around $30, then this price range may be a better fit in comparison to other tequilas.

Patrón is a perfect example of great marketing and the notion that price equals quality. Many drinkers who are new to tequila fall into this trap and rely on name recognition to guide them to their selections.

A Review Of Patrn Silver Tequila

Roca Patrón Silver Tequila | The Making Of

The mixability of Patrón;Silver is where my fascination truly lies. Sure, it is good to sip, but it is best in a balanced mixed drink with fresh fruits.

It is not limited to just a few fruit flavors, either. We have tried it with everything from orange to blackberry and grapefruit to cranberry. This is a tequila that loves fruit and its waves of sweetened agave come through the back of the fruit in such a delightful way that’s hard to resist.

Good examples include a set of fruit highballs from the brand: the pineapple tequila and Patrón Pomegranate. It is in these relatively simplistic tequila cocktails that Patrón Silver truly shines.

Bacardi And Cuba Today

UNBOXING and Review of Patron TEQUILA – Silver vs. Reposado – Which is Better?

Bacardi drinks are not easily found in Cuba today. The main brand of rum in Cuba is , produced by a company that was confiscated and nationalized by the government following the revolution. Bacardi later bought the brand from the original owners, the Arechabala family. The Cuban government, in partnership with the French company , sells its Havana Club products internationally, except in the United States and its territories. Bacardi created the Real Havana Club rum based on the original recipe from the Arechabala family, manufactures it in Puerto Rico, and sells it in the United States. Bacardi continues to fight in the courts, attempting to legalize their own trademark outside the United States.

The Difference In Patron Tequila

The difference in the brands products lies in their creation. It all begins in the;Weber Blue Agave;harvesting, the plant used as the base ingredient of tequilas.

Since the agave plants ripening happens only every eight years or so, the companys experienced Jimadors were trained to spot the plant with optimal sugar content. Using a sharp tool referred to as Coa, they get right into the piña, or the agave plants core.

These piñas ripen slowly, and it also takes a slow process to prepare them for fermentation. This arduous and meticulous task makes Patron Tequila;a premium spirit and one of the worlds most known tequila brands.

The piñas are manually chopped before they are baked using small brick ovens. Once evenly cooked, a roller mill and a 2-ton volcanic stone Tahona wheel crush them to the pulp. They then go through a 3-day fermentation process, after which they are placed in barrels for distillation and ageing.

The brands oldest tequila is the Extra Añejo 10 Años, left to age for 10 years, and the product that undergoes the minimum aging process of two months is Patrón Reposado.

The story does not end when the liquor fermentation begins.

The brand ensures perfection up to the bottles they use, and the cork or crystal stopper. The renowned glass artisans from Mexico mold and measure the bottles used by the brand; Lalique, the French crystal master, handles the design of the crystal stopper, while the fine corks used were obtained through sustainable harvesting.

When it comes to mixing, barreling, and aging Patrón, theres one dude making the decisions, also owner of what is arguably the coolest leather jacket in all of Mexico. Francisco Alcaraz is the worlds first ever tequila inspector, which we have to assume is probably the best kind of inspector you can be besides Inspector Gadget. Alcaraz has been inspecting tequila for close to 50 years, and his incredibly strict standards are a huge factor if not the actual backbone of the success of the brand.

Patrón Silver is a blend of two very differently produced triple distilled tequilas – one made using a traditional tahona and fermented with agave fibres, the other made using a modern roller shredder. The blend is packaged in hand-blown individually numbered bottles.

Pine sap, wet cement, faint citrus, pineapple, lavender, white pepper and cinnamon.

Patrn Might Seem Swank But Its Run By A Bunch Of Hippies

Patrón might have a slight swag factor, but the company is exceptionally environmentally conscious. They use water left over from distillation and compost 100 percent of the spent agave hearts about 5,500 tons of compost a year using it to feed the haciendas garden, which in turn feeds Patrón staff. They also share compost with the local community and installed a natural gas pipeline to reduce CO2 emissions. And, we assume, probably take regular hacky sack breaks.
