How To Drink Vodka
There are many ways to enjoy vodka but the main thing to ensure is that its enjoyed ice cold. Before drinking vodka or preparing any vodka-based cocktails, store the bottle in the freezer for a few hours.
As alcohol has a much lower freezing point than vodka, theres no need to worry about it getting too cold. Freezing the vodka will remove any harsh flavours and softens the aroma and taste.
If sipping vodka, pour it into a small tumbler for optimum flavour. Swirl it in the glass and take a small sip as the flavours rest on your palate.
There are plenty of popular vodka-based cocktails to enjoy. Some common favourites are the Cosmopolitan, Martini, Bloody Mary, Gimlet and White Russian. Or, keep it simple in a highball glass with a vodka soda or vodka tonic.

How Is Vodka Made
As a relatively straightforward spirit, vodka can be distilled from virtually anything. Its mostly produced by fermenting potatoes or cereal grains like wheat or rye. The majority of plain vodkas and almost all Russian vodkas are created with wheat, while Polish vodka favours rye and Finnish vodka goes for barley. When vodka is produced using something other than potato or cereal grain, like Ciroc, which is made using grapes, it must legally be declared on the bottle.
To make vodka, the potato or grain is heated to form a mash before being mixed with yeast to produce ethanol. This fermentation process can take anything from one day to two weeks before the liquid is purified to remove any odours or off notes. Then, its distilled in column stills or pot stills to reach its desired purity.
The vodka, at 95.6 percent, is then diluted to around 50% with purified or spring water before being distilled again, at which point infusions can be added. The spirit is finished in the pot before common additives like honey or sugar are added. Before the final step, every bottle of vodka goes through a particle filter before its chilled and sold.

Ology: How We Select Test And Rank The Best Vodkas
Vodka has kept its title as one of the most popular spirits in the world for many years, which means there are hundreds of different brands to choose from. However, while there are more brands to sample than we could ever reasonably sip, there are a handful that are known for being consistently excellent.
When we put together this guide of the best vodka brands, we looked at all of the new vodka brands that have joined the market in recent years as well as those that have kept their title of success for a longer period of time. We looked at the process used for distilling the spirit, the number of times each bottle was distilled as well as any unique factors included during this process.
We took into account the quality of the grain, potato or other base product used by each brand as well as its sustainability and whether or not the alcohol was produced locally. Then, we factored in the price of each bottle, its purpose and versatility, and its range of flavours and aromas.

Six Of The Best Vodka Mixers According To Us
Vodka is supposed to be flavorless, says the TTB, the government bureau that regulates alcohol. Some bottles may have grassy undertones and others a sharp bite , but, ultimately, understatement is the name of the game.
And so mixers matter when youre making vodka cocktails. To determine the best juices, sodas, and other dance partners for vodka, we turned to an utterly subjective source: ourselves. We gathered VinePair staff and extended family for a taste test.
Our criteria? All mixers had to be widely available, disqualifying that tasty Concord grape syrup a friend from Maine sometimes brings to Thanksgiving. We prioritized simple, two- or three-ingredient drinks and, for sake of consistency, made every cocktail with one of our preferred affordable vodkas, Prairie Organic.
Here are six of our favorite vodka mixers, ranked.

Best Vanilla: Absolut Vanilia Vodka
Wide distribution and easy to find
Versatile mixer, from fruity to indulgent
Vanilla vodka has a history and usefulness that rivals the citrus-flavored spirit. It was among the original flavored vodkas and has found a home in cocktails for several decades. You can mix it into fruity drinks like the pornstar martini or add it to comforting concoctions with coffee and cream or chocolate and other indulgent mixers.
Due to its long-standing use in the bar, your vanilla vodka options are numerous as well. Despite all the competition, Absolut Vanilia remains at the top of the list. A leader in vodka for a very long time, this is Absoluts stand-out flavor, offering the naturally sweet taste of vanilla beans against its Swedish-distilled vodka. Its also one you can trust: All of Absoluts flavors are made with natural ingredients, bottled at 80 proof, and do not contain added sugar.
Excellent in sweet dessert drinks
Easy to find from reputable brand
Kosher and gluten-free
Lacks nutrition info
Starting around 2010, sweet vodkas were all the rage for a few years. While the more ridiculous options designed to taste like every dessert and sweet treat imaginable have been pulled from the market, whipped cream and cake vodkas have found a home in cocktails. Only a few brands still have these options, and the best left standing is Smirnoff Whipped Cream Vodka.
Nicely balanced flavor spicy but not too hot

Best Coffee: Three Olives Triple Shot Espresso Vodka
Rich Arabica coffee bean taste
Can be difficult to find
When you cant decide whether its time for coffee or cocktails, vodka is here to help you out. Emerging with the array of crazy flavors that stormed the market in the 2010s, espresso vodka quickly grabbed the attention of coffee drinkers. Because a single shot of espresso is never enough, Three Olives offers a triple shot espresso vodka that’s sure to hit the spot.
Made from English vodka, the 35 percent ABV vodka is infused with Italian espresso and has a rich taste that lives up to its deep brown color. With hints of dark chocolate and vanilla, the flavor is nothing short of delicious. Its ideal for an espresso martini or any time you want the ultimate after-dinner cocktail.
Sweetened with vanilla rather than sugar
Expensive for a flavored vodka
Cherry is the trickiest flavored vodka. Too often, when the fruit flavoring and alcohol meet, it comes out tasting like cough syrup, which is the last thing you want in your cocktails. Typically, this occurs with cheap vodkas that use artificial flavorings. If you want a cherry vodka that you can actually drink, it is vital that you pay up for a top-shelf brand.

Best Ginger: Belvedere Ginger Zest Vodka
May be difficult to find in some markets
Ginger vodka has a snappy spice, often with a hint of sweetness, and it can be used to create some very interesting cocktails. It is not the most popular flavor, so only a few companies produce it, and many ginger vodkas do not last long on the market. One mainstay that beats the competition in flavor is Belvedere Ginger Zest Vodka.
The premium Polish vodka is distilled from rye and noted for its exceptional smoothness. For this flavor, Chinese ginger, Spanish lemon, and South African grapefruit are infused into the vodka. In Poland, vodka can contain no additives, and Belvedere holds true to that in this 40-proof ginger vodka. It is crisp, clean, and perfectly flavored.
