Where Can I Buy Kirkland Vodka

Kirkland Signature Toilet Paper

Costco vs. Grey Goose Vodka Blind Taste Test!

No one longs for the darker days of the pandemic, hunting down toilet paper anywhere you could. Some retailers, Costco included, limited how many packets you could buy. And most of what Costco sells in that department are 30-packs.

TP shortages seem to be a thing of the past. And not that it’s anybody’s business, but our house is Team Costco when it comes to TP. Kirkland Signature 2-ply bath tissue is a steal. Thirty high-quality rolls sell for just $16.99, a price Costco didn’t up during the pandemic. That price has been steady for years.

Facial tissue is another story. One shopping expert we consulted knocked the quality of Costcos Kirkland Signature facial tissue, earning it a spot on our list of the worst things to buy at warehouse clubs.

Is Kirkland Breakfast Blend Coffee Starbucks

Some of the coffee sold under the Kirkland name is actually made by Starbucks. The next time you pick up a 2 1/2 pound bag of Kirklands Signature House Blend Medium Roast, Espresso Blend Dark Roast, and Decaf House Blend Medium Roast, make sure that you check for the Custom Roasted by Starbucks stamp.

Costco’s Kirkland Signature Vodka Has Scored Higher Than Grey Goose In Blind Tastings

In fact, there are lots of rumors that Kirkland and Grey Goose are made at the same plant. According to Munchies, that isn’t entirely true though the two vodkas are made with water sourced from Gensac Springs in Cognac, France. Even more surprising, Munchies explains that Kirkland vodka scored six points higher than Grey Goose in a handful of reputable blind tasting competitions.

Kirkland Signature Golf Gear

34 Vodka With Blue Label

When Costo released its Kirkland Signature golf balls in 2016, they were an immediate sensation, highly lauded by pros and amateurs alike. They also quickly sold out, as they were compared to the highly lauded Titleist Pro V1.

They’re back. You can pick up a 24-pack of Kirkland Signature V2.0 Performance three-piece golf balls for $24.99. Costco-branded golf balls typically retail for 60% less than a Titleist.

But wait. There’s more: The equally lauded Kirkland Signature KS1 Putter is on Costco shelves for $139.99. Need a bit more in your bag? A Kirkland Signature 3-piece golf wedge set is $159.99.

While you’re at it, pick up a four-pack of Kirkland Signature golf gloves — sizes vary — for $19.99.

We can’t guarantee this Kirkland Signature will improve your game, but we can guarantee you’ll save a few bucks.

So … it does all come out in the wash.

Costco tapped its Kirkland Signature brand to help do the laundry, and less expensively than national brands, some stacked and stocked near the KS brand.

For comparison’s sake, we spotted the Kirkland Signature UltraClean Premium liquid laundry detergent in 194-ounce jugs selling for $15.99 and yes, the packaging does look strikingly like Tide’s signature colors. UltraClean comes in at 8 cents per ounce.

Nearby, stacks and stacks of 150-ounce jugs of Tide Advance Power laundry detergent challenged UltraClean. But Tide Advance was selling for $19.99, or 13 cents per ounce.

Kirkland Signature Blended Scotch Whisky

Price: $17.99

The internets opinion: Youve probably never heard of Alexander Murray & Company, but according to , as of 2016, Costco sells 100,000+ cases of its scotch per year. Alexander Murray works with about 12 distilleries in Scotland like Caol Ila, Tomintoul, Dalmore, Mortlach, Glenrothes and Tullibardine to fill up private-label bottles at Costco, Trader Joes, and Total Wine. Which juice ends up in the Kirkland bottle? The rumor is that its Tullibardine. But! As The Scotch Noob points out, Alexander Murray has definitely bottled Macallan before, and is reported to have contracts with both Diageo and Edrington. Diageo owns brands like Johnnie Walker. Edrington produces Cutty Sark . Take your pick.

The experts opinion: Be aware that the smell of this scotch is not ideal. Theres something funky in there, he says. That smells very strange. Based on his knowledge of the scotch market, he says its likely sourced from Diageo or Bacardi. This is reminiscent of a Dewars White Label, but it has a bit more color on it, notes Jensen. He notes that it could also be a blend from one of Johnnie Walkers distilleries, but he leans towards Dewars. Overall, he didnt mind the taste, and said if you can cover the scotch in a cocktail like a Penicillin, itll be finethough his overall recommendation is to spend a little more money on another brand.

Kirkland French Vodka $20 To $25 For 175 Liters

Brand name equivalent: Grey Goose, $34 for 750 milliliters at Reserve Bar

The hands-down favorite of all Kirkland spirits, the French vodka earns high scores from experts and average drinkers alike. Rumor has it that its really just a big bottle of Grey Goose. And while both are made from Gensac Springs water in Cognac, France, and both are made in the same distillery, theyre actually different products, which youll quickly realize when tasting them both side by side. In fact, Kirkland usually scores higher.

Kirkland also makes an American vodka thats distilled six times. Its smooth and practically flavorless, and a fantastic deal at $14 for 1.75 liters, but reviewers agree the French version, with its rich, silky-smooth texture, is far better.

Kirkland Scotch Whiskies Price And Selection Varies

Costco has teamed up with Alexander Murray, a California-based company that sources and bottles a wide range of whiskies from Scotland, to offer a rotating selection of very well-regarded and very well-priced scotch.

Think of it this way theres a lot of scotch whisky being made from producers big and smallish , but not all if it fits the flavor profile each producer is going for. What do they do with the stuff thats really good but not the right fit? They sell it to someone like fellow Scottsman Steve Lipp, owner of Alexander Murray, who bottles it under his own and Kirklands labels.

The options have ranged from Speyside single malt 18-year single malt , 12-year blended and a 16-year-old highland . Take note of those prices theyre at least $20 cheaper than name-brand bottles.

Not every cashier knows the law, so be ready to explain your case to a manager.

Kirkland Signature Olive Oil

Kirkland Signature American Vodka, 1.75L

Costcos olive oil rises to the top, notes the University of California, Davis, which conducted a chemical and sensory study of olive oils. Kirkland Signature Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil was one of only a few imported oils that met international and U.S. standards for extra virgin olive oil. The many brands that fell short in the testing were diluted with cheaper oils and exhibited problems with quality and flavor.

What’s also nice is the price. A 2-liter bottle of Kirkland Signature EVOO was $11.99, or about 17 cents per ounce. News flash: You can skip the Costco membership and get this same 2-liter bottle of Kirkland Signature EVOO on… wait for it: Walmart.com Um-hmmm. But it will set you back $34.24, nearly three times the cost at Costco.

Walmart does have its own branded EVOO. Its Great Value organic extra virgin olive oil is $9.86 for a 51-ounce jar, or about 19 cents per fluid ounce, and we’re not sure if it’s received accolades.

Note, too, the Kirkland Signature name is on a wide lineup of other cooking oils, including coconut, canola and corn.

The Price Tag May Be Cheap But The Quality Might Shock You

Its no secret that robots make the best pizza at Costco, and that the robot revolution will start when the pizza androids finally decide to revolt. But there’s one secret the retailer doesnt want you to know: which companies are making all of its deliciously affordable Kirkland booze? If youve ever shopped for inexpensive gin, vodka, tequila, or other spirits at Costco, youve probably wondered the same thing.

You could search this free Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau database to find out which importer/producer the booze is sourced from, but its complicated, just like that Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin movie. Many brands have multiple distilleries, and can make private label booze. While we can’t definitively say what the answers are, we wanted to give you two educated opinions: the general internet consensus and the thoughts of Stuart Jensen, a longtime bartender extraordinaire and co-owner of Denvers Curio Bar.

Read this handy guide on who makes seven of these best-selling spirits for Costco, and if theyre worth your hard-earned money. If you think Kirkland just pours Grey Goose into a vodka bottle, well, you might not be too far off.

Kirkland Signature Organic Peanut Butter

When my wife finally weaned me off creamy Jif peanut butter and into the world of peanut butter made without sugar , my snacking world changed.

Our go-to brand had been Smucker’s organic creamy peanut butter, but after diving into Kirkland Signature Organic Peanut Butter, that, too, has changed. Its just as good as Smucker’s, maybe even better, and theres no arguing with the price. You can get two 28-ounce jars of Kirkland peanut butter for around $10, or 18 cents per ounce, while just one 16-ounce jar of Smucker’s costs $4.48 at Walmart, or 28 cents per ounce.

Kirkland Signature Rotisserie Chicken

The Best And Worst Kirkland Liquors To Buy At Costco

The Costco I go to in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley must roast hundreds of chickens a day in its giant rotisserie oven, which is constantly getting loaded and off-loaded by the white-coated chicken changers. These Kirkland Signature Rotisserie Chickens are always tasty, and whats not sold is repurposed in other Costco fresh foods made onsite. You can find some of that leftover poultry in Costcos Kirkland Signature chicken noodle soup and packages of shredded chicken, great for creating a variety of your own dishes at home .

The best part: Costco has consistently kept the price of each roasted chicken at $4.99, likely looked at as a loss leader. At a nearby Walmart, a lone rotisserie chicken was selling for $7.67 with nary a rotisserie in sight.

The Selection Constantly Changes

Costco has a handful of top-performing bottles for under $20, which you’ll almost always find on the shelves. These wines include La Crema pinot noir, Coppola claret, and Kim Crawford sauvignon blanc, said Annette Alvarez-Peters in an interview with . But Costco’s wine aisle is constantly changing. Costo’s buyers tailor what’s sold at different stores based on local preferences and you can often find rare, surprising, or collector’s items. Alvarez-Peters calls these the “wow” items, which make shoppers want to return. So browse through the wine aisles carefully: It isn’t rare to find a boutique label or a highly sought-after wine at an awesome value.

Kirkland Spiced Rum $15 For 175 Liters

Comparable Brand name: Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, $14 for 375 milliliters at 67 Wine

Theres no better deal for your rum and cokes, poolside tiki drinks, and autumn punches than Kirklands Spiced Rum, which offers deep notes of vanilla. The spirits country of origin is St Croix, but its produced by Californias LeVecke Co., which bottles dozens of other brands and private-label hooch. At 92 proof, its quite a bit stronger than comparable brands like Captain Morgan , which means its an even better value and will stand up better in mixed drinks.

Worst: Kirkland Signature London Dry Gin

At around $25 for 1.75 L, the price is right for Kirkland Signature London Dry Gin. But like the other “worsts” on this list, it simply doesn’t stand out enough among its competition. After all, depending on where you buy it, you can get the same amount of New Amsterdam for a pretty similar price. So while Kirkland Signature gets points for its “satiny, crisp, dry light body” and “effortless, medium-length finish,” it’s not going to blow you away as far as value goes.

Furthermore, the Kirkland Signature London Dry Gin is a poor choice for certain cocktails. If you like to throw back a few gin and tonics with lime every now and then, you’re looking for something to mix into your Pimm’s cup, or you want to experiment with making negronis, it’s fine. However, a decent martini needs the right gin… and this ain’t it. You want something with more complexity and additional floral and citrus notes to balance out the juniper. Tanqueray, Boodles, and Hendrick’s are all great choices and at $20 to $35 a bottle, they aren’t going to set you back much more than the Costco stuff.

Kirkland Signature Aejo Tequila

Beauties and the Feast:: Thirsty Thursday: Sparkling ...

Price: $19.99

The internets opinion: Ive never had the pleasure of typing three words that go together as well as these: Ed Hardy Tequila. What does that have to do with Costco tequila? It all goes back to the NOM. As Tequila.net explains, the NOM is a unique identifier on bottles of tequila to let people know that the booze within is authentic. It also tells you which distillery the tequila comes from. One distiller can make multiple brands of tequila, and it just so happens that Kirklands is from the same source as the Ed Hardy Tequila . Other tequila sourced from that distillery includes KAH , Santos, Sol Dios, and Tonala.

The experts opinion: Youd think knowing the NOM would make this easier. It doesnt. Jensens guesses its sourced from Hornitos, but hes more interested in discussing why this añejo is different from others on the shelf. Its not terrible, but its a little hot and thin for an añejo, he says. The fact that its this thin makes me question if theres a diffuser . Its a way of speeding up the process of making tequila, and you end up with a product thats thin and tastes more along the lines of an agave vodka than a tequila. Its missing some of that depth, complexity, and agave flavor. He gives it points for the charred oak and vanilla notes, but says if youre looking to make cocktails with tequila, try a blanco! And maybe buy another añejo bottle.
