Brandi Carlile Grammy Nominations 2022

Doja Cat Feat Sza Kiss Me More

Grammy nominee Brandi Carlile on her comeuppance and the industry barriers she still faces

If the hook of “Kiss Me More” sounds familiar, try listening to Olivia Newton-John’s 1981 hit “Physical.”

Doja Cat and SZA’s bouncy collab brilliantly interpolates the single, but swelling production and a punchy beat make “Kiss Me More” anything but a cheap ripoff. The lead single from Doja Cat’s highly acclaimed third album Planet Her, the track spotlights the star’s prowess as both a singer and a rapper, bringing in SZA for a flawless match-up of female power.

The song’s rolling melody made it an instant radio hit , earning Doja Cat her second No. 1 at pop radio and SZA her first.

It reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it became the longest-running all-female top 10 hit in the chart’s history, surpassing Brandy and Monica’s GRAMMY-winning 1998 duet “The Boy Is Mine.”

Abba I Still Have Faith In You

ABBA sent the world into a frenzy upon their much-anticipated return in September, when they released the first two songs from Voyage, their first album in 40 years.

“I Still Have Faith In You,” a heartfelt ode to their friendships that have endured throughout their time apart, is a song that the group wrote in 2018 along with its partner single, “Don’t Shut Me Down.”

“New spirit has arrived/ The joy and the sorrow/ We have a story and it survived,” the Swedish superstars sing on the chorus over a majestic rhythm, building to a series of dazzling harmonies for the song’s epic finish. It’s a musical odyssey that is oh-so-classic ABBA.

Believe it or not, this nomination marks ABBA’s first GRAMMY nomination in their career.

Considering that the group’s Agnetha Fältskog has suggested that this album might be their last, there will likely be many fans glued to their TV to find out if ABBA get to call themselves GRAMMY winners.

Zach Bryan Something In The Orange

Brandi Carlile REACTS to Making Grammy HISTORY | E! Red Carpet & Award Shows

Zach Bryan blew into Music City seemingly from nowhere in 2017, when his original song “Heading South” recorded on an iPhone went viral. Then an active officer in the U.S. Navy, the Oklahoma native chased his muse through music during his downtime, striking a chord with country music fans on stark songs led by his acoustic guitar and affecting vocals.

After his honorable discharge in 2021, Bryan began his music career in earnest, and in 2022 released “Something in the Orange,” a haunting ballad that stakes a convincing claim to the territory between Tyler Childers and Jason Isbell in both sonics and songwriting. Slashing slide guitar drives home the song’s heartbreak, as Bryan pines for a lover whose tail lights have long since vanished over the horizon.

“Something In The Orange” marks Bryan’s first-ever GRAMMY nomination.

Will the third time be the charm for Beyoncé when the votes are tabulated and the winners of the 2023 Grammy Awards are announced?

For the third time in six years, Queen Bey as the vocal superstar is fondly called by many of her fans has a field-leading nine nominations, including Album of the Year , and Record and Song of the Year . The biggest question now is whether she will triumph in the most prestigious categories, or go home with only a few wins in minor categories as was the case for her in both 2017 and 2021?

The 63rd annual edition of the music industrys most prestigious annual awards show will be the first to be held during the coronavirus pandemic

Either way, if Beyoncé earns victories in four of the nine categories in which she is now nominated, she will become the biggest winner in Grammy history.

Beyoncé currently is tied for second with legendary producer Quincy Jones, with 28 each. At least for now, classical music conductor Sir Georg Solti who died in 1997 still heads the list with 31 Grammy wins.

The other top contenders announced Tuesday include hip-hop maverick Kendrick Lamar and Adele and Brandi Carlile . Close behind, with six nominations apiece, are Harry Styles, Mary J. Blige, Future, Randy Merrill and DJ Khaled.

Beyoncé’s husband and periodic musical partner, hip-hop superstar Jay-Z earned five nominations. That makes him and Beyoncé the two most-nominated artists in Grammy history, with 88 each.

Indie Rockers Infiltrated Country Music

As ’90s-style indie rock has a moment thanks to artists likeBig Thief, Momma and Alvvays, Katie Crutchfield is leaning deeper into laid-back country vibes. The leader of Waxahatchee, whose blissful 2020 setSaint Cloudlanded her on scores of year-end lists, doubled down in 2022.

Waxahatchee collaborated with Wynonna on the single “Other Side,” recorded on the Judds singer’s farm in Tennessee an experience both artists ranked among their favorite recording sessions. Crutchfield also collaborated with Jess Williamson on a new project dubbed Plains, releasing the album I Walked With You A Ways in 2022 to critical acclaim. The 10 songs on Plains’ debut rival the artists’ soothing solo work and combine their strengths with Fleetwood Mac harmonies.

Madison Cunningham, who is best known for weaving mind-bending melodies and harmonies between her voice and guitar, guested on the second edition of Watkins Family Hour which pairs siblings Sara and Sean Watkins of Nickel Creek with a series of notable collaborators like Fiona Apple and Jackson Browne contributing her signature spidery guitar playing to “Pitseleh.”

This year, there was no separation of generations. Rather, the “legend vs. newcomer” hierarchy was completely dismissed, as artists from the ’60s to today joined forces in the recording studio.

Alicia Keys & Brandi Carlile A Beautiful Noise

Released in October of 2020, right at the peak of United States presidential election jitters, two dynamic singer/songwriters came together for a rousing call to action. “A Beautiful Noise” is both an appeal for voter turnout and a showcase for the potent talents of Alicia Keys and Brandi Carlile.

The “A Beautiful Noise” music video features the two stars on duelling grand pianos in a warmly-lit room, and that’s about it but thats all it needs. All the fireworks are contained in the two vocal performances and the subtle-yet-meaningful looks exchanged between Keys and Carlile.

In a statement accompanying the release, Carlile said she’s “forever inspired” by Keys and jumped at the opportunity to “deliver this beautiful message through song” at a time when voting felt more urgent than ever.

Watch BRANDI CARLILE & Audience Reactions At The 2022 GRAMMYs

In 2022, country music proved that age is irrelevant when the music is this good. Newcomers Chapel Hart captured the national spotlight and a rare Golden Buzzer on “America’s Got Talent” in July with a nod to iconDolly Parton. The trio’s electrifying performance of their original song “You Can Have Him Jolene,” an answer to Parton’s 1974 smash “Jolene,” elevated them to star status, and they spent the latter half of 2022 playing to sold-out audiences across America.Darius Ruckereven recruited them to back him on his song “Ol’ Church Hymn.”

Parton had her own high point this year, earning her first No. 1 on Billboard‘s Bluegrass Albums chart with her 48th studio album, Run, Rose, Run. She also released a new compilation album, Diamonds & Rhinestones: The Greatest Hits Collection, in November.

After Shania Twain spent the last couple of years featuring on other artist’s songs, the best-selling female country artist of all time returned to her throne in 2022. She announced her sixth studio album, Queen of Me, helmed by the dance-floor bop “Waking Up Dreaming.” The announcement followed the Netflix documentary Not Just A Girl and preceded another huge announcement: a 76-date U.S. tour for 2023.
