How To Make A Margarita With Margarita Mix
If you have the time, make your margaritas from scratch. But if you’re in a hurry or if you’re making margaritas for a large crowd, using margarita mix can be a valuable shortcut. While you’ll miss the fresh lime flavor of a homemade margarita, you’ll be able to fill a pitcher in a fraction of the time.
Of course, not all margarita mixes are created equal. Avoid mixes that are sweetened with high fructose corn syrup and other artificial ingredients. Instead, look for margarita mixes made with real lime juice, cane sugar, or agave syrup. With better quality ingredients in the mix, your margaritas will taste closer to the real thing.

Key Ingredients And Substitutions
Frozen margaritas are a classic cocktail and are simple to make with just a few key ingredients so there is no reason to ever buy margarita mix again.
The full ingredient list and measurements are listed in the printable recipe below.
- Tequila. You dont need to splurge here just stick with something reputable. Blanco or Respado are preferred as Añejo will be too smoky save that for sipping neat.
- Orange Liqueur. You can get obsessive and make your own, but any of the common brands like Cointreau or Grand Marnier are great. And they add far more character to your margarita than tired, old triple sec. This is an ingredient you should splurge on if you want the best margarita.
- Orange Bitters. This helps to keep the sweetness in check while still rounding out the citrus notes.
- Agave Nectar. This once was an exotic ingredient, but you should be able to easily find it next to the sugar or honey in any grocery store. Agave nectar amplifies the tequila flavor and balances the sourness of the citrus so dont skip it.
- Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice. You might be able to find freshly squeezed at your local grocery store, but when in doubt get a dozen or so and start squeezing. The amount of lime juice you get from each lime will vary based on the size and juiciness of your limes.
- Lime Zest. This adds to the overall flavor profile and provides a confetti-like appearance in the presentation.

A margarita on the rocks is the most traditional way to make a margarita cocktail. Making a homemade margarita on the rocks is simple. Basic recipes combine tequila, triple sec, and fresh lime juice to create a tangy, earthy, and slightly sweet drink. Instead of triple sec, some recipes balance out the drink’s tartness with simple syrup or agave syrup, a natural match for agave-based tequila.
While good tequila is important for a delicious margarita on the rocks scroll down to see how to choose the best tequila for a margarita fresh lime juice is just as crucial. Yes, squeezing limes by hand takes time, but the flavor is far superior to bottled lime juice. As for triple sec, it really depends on your budget. Grand Marnier and Cointreau are top quality but not the most economical options. There are many other, less expensive triple secs, including Bol’s Triple Sec, which will also make a lip-smacking margarita.

Ever since living in San Antonio, Ive had an avid love affair with margaritas. The huge selection of margarita flavors you encounter in a River Walk restaurant is daunting . And one of my most favorite margaritas, aside from the sangria margarita twist, is the mango margarita.
The great thing about making these margaritas at home is you can make them the exact sweetness you want. I like to rely on the mango to give most of the natural sweetness, but you can taste and adjust to suit your liking!

Ive been making so many cocktails using the fresh fruits of summer Ive sort of forgotten my Classic Cocktail series that everyone loves which usually includes a history of the drink. I promise to do another of those soon but in the meantime, this Raspberry Margarita Slushy Cocktail happened.
Considering the heat of the summer weve all been dealing with across the country I thought everyone would love something a bit lighter and certainly a lot colder.
How cold? Well, you cant get much colder than a popsicle, right? There was no great plan in the works for weeks to make these for summer, as a matter of fact I was just tired of the heat.
Im going to do several cold, slushy or frozen treats this month whether for ice cream or in a fun cocktail fashion. I had just ordered some new popsicle molds and in a weird way the anticipation of those being delivered made it impossible for me to wait!
After the dust settled for the fourth of July this past Wednesday evening I took stock of some juices in the fridge and some fruits in the freezer and came up with a plan for a slightly boozy popsicle. When fresh fruit is at its peak, I just love finding a way to use it for the treats I make in the kitchen.

The Best Frozen Margarita Recipe To Make This Summer
A few summers ago I discovered that I really enjoy tequila. Or rather tequila-based cocktails.
Ive never been a shots kind of a girl and I dont think my late 30s, with two small children, is the time to start.
I love the flavor of limes also, so I really love to make skinny margaritas.
I know there are so many ways to make margaritas out there so I decided to ask my for their favorite margarita recipes. They were varied, to say the least.
I decided I would try several of them and see which ones I like the best. It was hard work, you guys. But these are the kinds of things I do for you.
I made a traditional margarita with triple sec, lime juice, tequila and agave. It was just ok.
Several of the recipes that I had been given called for beer. Its more of a Chelada and didnt feel like a margarita.
And one called for Trader Joes margarita mix. I was disappointed.
While I still prefer my Skinny Margarita recipe for an everyday cocktail, turns out I found the best Frozen Limeade Margarita recipe that is perfect for extra hot summer days.
