What Alcohol Is In Mojito

Add The Sugar Lime Juice And Wedges And Mint To The Glasses

Non-Alcoholic Mojito Mocktails | Virgin Mojitos: 6 Amazing Recipes

Assuming that you’re making the full recipe for two drinks, set out two tall glasses to start. Next, divide the tablespoon of sugar evenly between the two glasses, and squeeze equal parts of lime juice in as well. Now, place three lime wedges at the bottom of both glasses, and divide the mint leaves between them so that there are 10 in each. Then, move on to the next step.

Whats The Difference Between Tequila And Rum

If youre going to mess around with a mojito, you might as well know why. Tequila, a regionally distilled beverage, and type of alcoholic drink made from the blue agave plant is made primarily in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, in the central-western Mexican state of Jalisco. Tequila must use only blue agave plants rather than any type of agave and its commonly served neat in Mexico and as a shot with salt and lime across the rest of the world. Rum is a distilled alcoholic drink made by fermenting then distilling sugarcane molasses or sugarcane juice. The distillate, a clear liquid, is usually aged in oak barrels. Most rums are produced in the Caribbean and American countries, but also in other sugar-producing countries, such as the Philippines and India. Rum is produced in various grades. Light rums are commonly used in cocktails, whereas golden and dark rums are typically consumed straight or neat.

Ingredients To Make Mojito With Mangoes

Mango

Being the most important of them all to make the mojito. Use ripe soft bright yellow mangoes, theyre always sweeter and tastier. The riper the mangoes, the better the sweetness. Chop, blend and use this pulp as needed

Mint

Fresh bright green mint is the star ingredient for any mojito recipe, be it alcohol or non-alcohol-based recipes. Finely chop the mint and make sure to muddle it

Sugar

As per taste. Regular granulated sugar must be used only as required. This also depends on how sweet the mango pulp maybe

Lime juice

Freshly squeezed lemon juice is important. It adds that extra kick to your regular mocktail

Ice cubes

Not shown in my recipe video, but you may add ice cubes to give the mango mojito a refreshing cooling taste. The quantity depends on how chilled youd like the mocktail to be

Sprite

Any sweetened aerated drink / sweetened soda would work. Sprite is popular out here and has a lemon-like feel to it, which compliments the mocktail. 7Up, lemonade, club soda, etc works well too

Mango Pieces & Mint Leaves

Optional but definitely needed to make the mocktail look fancy. Cut a round piece of mango and slit it. Place it on the glass with a sprig of mint for garnishing. You may even garnish it with lemon slices or add some salt & chili mix to the rim of the glass

The Right Way To Muddle Mint

Muddling is gently mashing herbs or fruits to release their juices. This technique is often used in cocktails because it helps the flavors incorporate better than if you just threw a mint sprig right into the drink. Is there a right way to muddle? In fact, there is! Heres how to muddle mintthe right way:

  • Place the mint leaves in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. If you dont have one, you can use a large metal cup or bowl.
  • Using a wooden cocktail muddler or unfinished wooden spoon, gently mash the mint a few times to release the juices. Do not mash the mint with a lot of force! The key to muddling is a light touch.

How To Make A Pitcher Of Mojitos:

Mojito Cocktail Recipe

If you happen to be making a round of mojitos for a group, feel free to try out the mojito pitcher recipe below instead! To make a pitcher of mojitos, simply

  • Muddle your mint. Combine your mint, rum, lime juice, and sweetener in a large pitcher. Then use a cocktail muddler to gently muddle the mint a bit so that those fresh minty flavors get released.
  • Fill pitcher with ice. Leaving about 2 free inches or so at the top of the pitcher.
  • Top with club soda and stir. Top the pitcher with a good splash of club soda, and give the pitcher a stir.
  • Then serve! Ideally right away, so that the ice does not melt too much. Serve into glasses filled with ice, then top with your desired garnishes.

    Its Stirred Not Shaken

Another thing that Menta learned on his pilgrimage to the Mojito mecca was that stirring gives you more control over the ultimate flavor of the drink. As we pour in the rum, running over the ice as its slowly melting, the water and oils from the mint mix and blend together. Top with soda water, then take your bar spoon, keeping the tip on the bottom, swirl along the inside of the glass twice and pull up a little so you bring up all that oil and sugar into the mix.

    Make Ahead Storing And Freezing

Store any of the virgin strawberry mojito in the fridge for 3-4 days. The longer its in the fridge, the less fizzy the drink will be.

If you want leftovers, I recommend making extra of the strawberry, mint, and lime muddled mixture and storing that in the fridge in an airtight container and adding the Sprite as you serve it.

You can freeze the strawberry, mint, and lime mixture in an airtight container for 2-3 months. Thaw and add soda. I do this with a lot of my drink recipes! It makes it much easier to prep for parties ahead of time.

Believe it or not, fresh lime juice can be good for you. It might be sour, but it is packed with antioxidants and vitamins like vitamin C, potassium, folate, and calcium, among others. It is especially rich in vitamin C, which is responsible in many ways from the development to the repair of tissue and collagen.

Using a flavorless rum only makes the drink taste like a boozy, mint soda, David Mor, beverage manager, Cindys, Chicago, says. You dont have to blow your budget on a top-shelf bottle, but you should use a rum you like the taste of straight. The sugar, citrus, and mint adorn the spirit in this drink, they dont mask it.

Mojitos traditionally call for white rum, but you can certainly swap in dark, aged varieties. I like to use a dark rum to add a little bit more flavor, Kenneth McCoy, chief creative officer, Public House Collective, NYC, says. Whatever age statement or flavor profile you choose, remember that the spirit will be the most powerful flavor in your drink.

In Cuba They Muddle And They Dont Use Simple Syrup

The whole thing with the Mojito in Cuba is theres no simple syrup, says Paul Menta, the owner and distiller of Key West First Legal Rum Distillery. Menta, a chef who teaches a Mojito class six days a week in his tasting room, has even scored time behind the stick at Havanas La Bodeguita del Medio, the bar that claims to be the Mojitos birthplace . There, Menta learned the importance that using granulated sugar and muddling plays in the drink. When crushing the sugar granules, youre also crushing mint, and from that action, the oils come out. The fresh lime juice then creates a chemical reaction and mixes with the chlorophyll in the mint and kills some of the bitterness.
