Brandi Carlile – Right On Time (Official Video)

Her second album, The Story, was produced by T Bone Burnett. It includes a collaboration with the Indigo Girls on “Cannonball”. The album was recorded in an 11-day session with Carlile, the Hanseroths, and drummer Matt Chamberlain to capture the raw intensity of Carlile’s live performances. The crack in Carlile’s vocals during the title track, “The Story”, came out by accident and was a direct result of the way the album was recorded. “The Story” was featured heavily in General Motors commercials during the 2008 Summer Olympics, leading to increased exposure to her music. In response to the advertisement, album sales increased 368 percent from 1,323 to 6,198. Sales for the lead single, “The Story”, increased in downloads of 28,091 copies.”The Story” peaked at No. 5 on the iTunes Music Store’s most-purchased list. The song was also used in the 2008 commercial for Super Bock and helped the song reach No. 1 and the album reach No. 4 on the Portuguese charts. “The Story” was featured on the end credits of the romantic drama film The Lucky One. The album has sold more than 257,776 copies in the US and peaked at No. 41 on the Billboard 200 and No. 10 on the US Rock Albums chart.

Music critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine praised Carlile for The Story saying, “The roiling collection fulfills the promise of her remarkable debut, offering resounding confirmation that Carlile is a singular talent.”

The Go-Gos first gig, at the Masque club in May of 1978, predated a period of evolving line-ups and a drift towards the mellower power-pop sound the band would later breakthrough with. Late 1979 saw them record a set of demos and secure a support slot in the UK with ska-pop band Madness, which then led to them flying to London for a long stretch on the groups national tour. The UK-based Stiff Records released The Go-Gos first single, We Got The Beat, and it did modest British business, but, more importantly, got them noticed stateside as it grazed the Billboard dance charts.

A growing live reputation, cemented by their dancefloor appeal, secured a signing to a major label led by Miles Copeland and 1981 saw the group finally hit the US Top 20 with Our Lips Are Sealed, later to be covered by Terry Halls Fun Boy Three. The bands LP debut, Beauty And The Beat, subsequently topped the US charts for six weeks, bolstered by a re-recording of their We Got The Beat breakthrough, which hit the US No.2 spot.

By 1994, Belinda had relocated with her family to Europe Real, her fifth solo album, was her first since her debut without Rik Nowels and offered a stripped-down, more acoustic vibe that rewarded her with two further UK hits in late 1993. The biggest, Big Scary Animal, was hailed as her most innovative to date and preceded another spell touring with her former band to support another greatest-hits set, including some new material.

Carlile Found An Instructor To Help Her Change Her Parenting Narrative

Brandi Carlile and wife Catherine Shepherd are all about their family.

After growing weary with the constant barrage of heteronormative parenting roles portrayed in the media, Carlile and Shepherd took it upon themselves to connect with an instructor who would help guide them as parents of Evangeline in the LGBTQ+ community. We found a really amazing LGBTQ+-sensitive instructor who came to our home and helped us navigate and identify our natural parental inclinations together, and that was hugely important, she told Parents. I strongly recommend this for LGBTQ+ parents embarking on this journey. There are so many mechanisms in place that make us feel inadequate more than people really understand.

Career Beginnings And Debut

Carlile began her career performing in Seattle music clubs with twin brothers Tim and Phil Hanseroth. In the beginning, Columbia Records signed Carlile in 2004 on the strength of songs she had been recording periodically at home. Released in 2005, Carlile showcased those early songs along with newly recorded tracks in the self-titled album Brandi Carlile. The 2006 re-release by Columbia Records included re-recordings of “Throw It All Away” and “What Can I Say”.

The album earned enthusiastic reviews she was featured on Rolling Stone‘s “10 Artists to Watch in 2005” list, and other “artist to watch” lists by Interview and Paste. In his review of the album, Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote, “The accolades, combined with cover artwork that captures her at her cutest as if she were a cousin of Rachael Leigh Cook might make some listeners suspicious of Carlile, since the cumulative effect makes her seem like a pretty, prepackaged creation.” He further wrote, “her music is… rich, warm, and seductive, familiar in its form and sound, yet sounding fresh, even original, particularly in how her folky singer/songwriter foundation blends with her art-pop inclinations.” The album peaked at No. 80 on the Billboard 200 and reached No. 1 on the US Folk Albums chart.

By the end of 2006, Carlile had embarked on several headlining tours and supported a variety of artists, including Ray LaMontagne, the Fray, Chris Isaak, Tori Amos, and Shawn Colvin.

In 2001, the Go-Go’s reunited again and released an album of new material, God Bless The Go-Go’s. Green Day‘s lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong co-wrote the only released single “Unforgiven“.

God Bless The Go-Go’s received mixed reviews from critics. Peter Fawthrop of AllMusic wrote “Every bit as Go-Go’s, that is, as their non-hits and less remarkable material. While the Go-Go’s sound is intact, there is not a “We Got the Beat” or a “Head Over Heels” to be found. It is feasible that in this age of pop rebirth, the Go-Go’s decided it was now or never … The album doesn’t attempt to update the band’s sound with hip-hop moves or electronic frippery, for which God should bless ’em, indeed. The girls’ hold on the current pop world remains so strong that Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong co-writes a song in impeccable Go-Go’s drag”.

In spite of the mixed reviews, the album charted in the US Billboard 200, peaking at number No. 57. Around the time of the Go-Go’s definitive reunion tour, Carlisle appeared nude for the cover feature and a full pictorial of the August 2001 edition of Playboy.

Carlisle’s eighth studio album, a selection of Gurmukhi chants titled Wilder Shores, was released in September 2017.

Carlisle and the Go-Go’s announced an 11-date reunion tour scheduled to begin in June 2020. However, in May 2020 the tour was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Is Brandi Carlile Still Married

Though musician Brandi Carlile has been happily married to her wife, Catherine Shepherd, since 2012, the public did not receive a real glimpse into their life until they appeared together at the 2019 Grammy Awards. We met through our activism and interest in charity, Brandi said in an interview with Rolling Stone.

Do The Couple Have Any Children Together

Following their marriage, the couple then went on to start a family together.

The couple have two daughters together, Evangeline, 6, and Elijah, 3.

In her new memoir Broken Horses, which was released in early 2021, Brandi opened up about parenting and being a parent within the LGBTQ+ community.

“I’m hoping people see through my story that there’s no right or wrong way to evolve into a parenting role in either heterosexual or same-sex relationships,” Brandi told People. “There are different, complicated dynamics, and there are many ways to feel. The more we talk about it and normalize it, the easier it is to understand that your parenting journey is custom. It really is your own.”

The couples first child, Evangeline, was conceived through IVF and in her book, Brandi revealed that she initially “struggled” with the fact that she wasn’t the one carrying her.

Brandi wrote that she was “feeling really confused about what my role even was” but she eventually “made peace with not being pregnant.”

Their second daughter, Elijah, was then later conceived by artificial insemination in 2017.

She continued: “Thanks for marrying me and becoming a reluctant and brilliantly sarcastic American.”

The couple met while Catherine coordinated Paul McCartney’s charity work.

After talking for about a year, the two officially met when Catherine traveled to New York City while working on a project for The Beatles‘ singer and they have been together ever since.

Prior to meeting, Brandi thought that Catherine was 65 years old.

“It was shocking to say the least,” she told People Magazine. “Every time I talked to her over the phone, I thought I was talking to somebody who was like 65 years old. I don’t know why. I think because of her wisdom and her demeanor. Or maybe I thought she was Paul’s age or something. So we met backstage in New York, and we were both like 27.”

Carlile And Shepherd Welcomed Daughter Evangeline Via Ivf In 2015

Brandi Carlile and Catherine Shepherd have two daughters.

Shepherd and Carlile welcomed their first daughter, 6-year-old Evangeline, in 2015 via IVF. Shepherd carried Evangeline, and Carlile opened up in a 2021 essay for Parents about how difficult it was to navigate without seeing any representation of her parenting role. It was complicated because I didn’t know who I was supposed to be in this equation, she shared. I knew I wasn’t ‘Dad,’ but I wasn’t pregnant either. Catherine was uncomfortable with all the things that were happening to her body, and the whole concept felt so foreign to us.
