Variation: Use Different Types Of Jack Daniels

Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey (Too sweet or spot on?) | No Nonsense Whisky #186

One way to make variations on a Jack and coke: change the type of Jack Daniels. Jack Daniels is a Tennessee brand of whiskey thats actually the top selling world-wide . The company was founded in 1875 by a man named yes, Jack Daniels, so its got a long history of whiskey production. While its most often made with the classic Old No. 7, there are several types of Jack Daniels you can use to vary this drink:

  • Old No. 7: the classic!
  • Tennessee apple: Adds an apple nuance
  • Tennessee rye: Rye whiskey has a spicy finish
  • Single barrel: The fancy stuff! Save this for drinking neat
  • Tennessee honey: Whiskey blended with honey liqueur
  • Tennessee fire: Adds a cinnamon spice

What’s The Difference Between Tennessee Honey And Wild Turkey American Honey

Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey is a honey-flavored whiskey liqueur. It blends the brand’s famous Tennessee whiskey with a honey liqueur that uses real honey. This is the most impressive of the distillery’s attempts at flavored whiskeys. It surpasses and is more useful than Tennessee Fire, Winter Jack, and many of their competitor’s offerings in this space.

If you’ve shied away from flavored whiskeys in the past, give Tennessee Honey a try. It has appeal to both regular whiskey drinkers and those new to the world of whiskey. Even those who prefer flavored vodkas will enjoy this marriage of sweet honey and smooth whiskey. It’s enjoyable ice-cold on its own and an excellent addition to simple soda mixed drinks and a variety of hot and cold cocktails.

What Is The Flavor Profile Of Jack Daniels

Jack Daniels meets all of the requirements of an American bourbon whiskey but there is some argument over whether it is one or not .

It is made in Tennessee using a mash bill that is at least 51% corn, along with malted barley and rye.

It is then distilled in large copper stills.

The distillate is aged in American white oak barrels for at least two years.

The key difference separating Jack Daniels from other bourbon whiskeys is that it is filtered through sugar maple charcoal before bottling.

This process strips the bourbon of some of its harsh flavorings, creating a smooth and easy-to-drink bourbon.

This technique, called the Lincoln Country process, is why Jack Daniels is often called a Tennessee whiskey instead of a bourbon.

The dominant flavors in Jack Daniels include caramel, vanilla, butterscotch, oak, lemon, corn, molasses, smoke, bananas, nuts, a hint of spice,

Does Jack Daniels Go With Ginger Ale

For many, the go -to will always be Jack Daniels and ginger ale the pleasingly alliterative Jack and ginger which is a snap to make and still delicious after all these years. Theres no reason to write off a drink as too simple or sophomoric if it tastes good, it is good. Updated Whiskey- Ginger Highball.

Is It A Bourbon Or A Whiskey

Some drinkers often mislabel Jack Daniels as a bourbon. While the drink does follow all the rules necessary to be considered a bourbon, Jack Daniels adds in one extra step that makes it a Tennesse whiskey. This last step is a process the distillery uses to filter its whiskey, which is done through the use of maple charcoal prior to bottling.

Interestingly, Jack Daniels is developed in a county where it is illegal to sell alcohol. Thats right, one of the most popular alcoholic drinks in the US is made in a dry county. Of course, there are ways around these laws. Jack Daniels circumvents the rules by only selling bottles for decorative intentions.

Whats ironic about the whole situation is the Moore Country depends heavily on the income and revenue created by Jack Daniels. As a matter of fact, the distillery is one of the primary sources of employment in the county.

For example, the population of Lynchburg is less than the number of people employed by Jack Daniels. Its safe to say that the location of the distillery itself has not negatively impacted how popular Jack Daniels actually is. The whiskey is still one of the most well-recognized alcoholic beverages in the world.

Unlike many of the brands on this list, Bird Dog is all about the flavored whiskey. In fact, thats pretty much all the brand makes touting itself as the most awarded flavored whiskey. One of its best and most award-winning whiskeys is Bird Dog Jalapeno Honey. Its so well-received that it even won a gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Tasting Notes:

This one is a little different than the others on this list as it has two very different flavors. The combination of rich, floral honey, and spicy, vegetal jalapeno has just the right amount of mellow sweetness to pleasing heat. On top of the initial flavors, your palate is also met with hints of toasted vanilla beans, caramel, and a warming spicy finish.

Workin’ Man’s Whiskey Review #20: Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey

A post shared by Ryohei Oku on Jun 26, 2020 at 7:34am PDT

ABV: 35%Average Price:$25

The Bottle:

When Jack Daniels released this bottle back in 2011, they started a honey whiskey craze. Basically, they take good ol No. 7 Tennesee whiskey and blend it with their own honey liqueur. Thats it. Its simple, easy-to-drink, and will probably surprise you.

Tasting Notes:

Classic Tennessee whiskey notes of mild spice, oak, vanilla, and banana create a solid base for the flourish of honey thats present. Wildflowers, lemon zest, buttery toffee, and more honey follow but are balanced by each other and never overpower the whole. Theres a mild sense of bitter dark chocolate that leans towards espresso near the end as the honey, spice, fruit, and vanilla slowly fade away.

Bottom Line:

Youll be pleasantly surprised by this bottle. It makes for a decent sipper on the rocks and one hell of a Horses Neck.

This cider honey martini is Fall in a glass! Its the perfect balance of sweet and tart thanks to yummy ingredients like apple cider, fresh lemon juice, Honey Jack, and a pinch of cinnamon.

Fall is here!? And theres so much to appreciate about this crisp and colorful season. This time of year always makes me remember growing up in Michigan, and visiting cider mills every fall. Hot apple cider, warm cider donuts, hay rides, beautiful fall leaves oh how the memories take me back!

When you hear cider, you probably think of the sweet apple juice that shows up in the grocery store every fall. But did you know that prior to Prohibition, the term cider was used to describe whats now called hard cider an alcoholic drink made from fermented apple juice?

More cider trivia: in the late 1800s, hard cider was the most popular beverage in America . Its true: American settlers thought public wells were unsanitary, so they drank cider instead hard cider that is. As more Europeans immigrated, beer gained popularity, and cider took a backseat.

Well, ciders making a comeback. Can I get a woot woot!

Downeast had four ciders for us to sample: Original, Pumpkin, Cranberry and Summer Blend. I actually loved their Original Blend most, Pumpkin Blend second and the Cranberry Blend coming in third.

How To Drink Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey

There are numerous ways to enjoy Tennessee Honey. It is a valuable asset to any bar as both a straight sipper and a cocktail mixer.

Tennessee Honey is billed as both a cold shot and a sipping whiskey. Chilling dulls the honey flavor, which is nice at times but not always desirable. For an ultra-smooth shot, serve it as cold as possible. Stick the bottle in the freezer, if you likeat 70 proof, this liqueur shouldn’t freeze. When you want a flavorful whiskey-backed, sweetened sipper, don’t go too cold. Stick with a single ice cube and enjoy its full flavor.

As with many whiskey liqueurs, simple is often best when it comes to mixing with Tennessee Honey. Pour a shot over ice and top it with soda for a delightful tall drink try it with cola, Dr. Pepper, or lighter sodas like ginger ale and lemon-lime soda. For something less sweet, go with a spicy ginger beer.

Tennessee Honey is also fantastic with lemonade or iced tea. It adds an intriguing twist to the legendary Lynchburg Lemonade when it replaces triple sec. In autumn and winter, use it as the base liquor or sweetener to spike hot coffee, tea, or apple cider.
