How Patron Tequila Is Made

All of Patrón’s tequilas are distilled from 100 percent Weber blue agave in the highlands of Jalisco. The agave piñas are harvested at around eight years of growth and sent to the nearby Hacienda Patrón distillery to begin the process of making tequila.

A rare thing in modern tequila production is the use of the tahona wheel and Patrón is one of the few distilleries that continue to employ this traditional method of crushing the baked agave. They do also use modern roller methods. It is the job of the master distiller to combine the two to make the;recipe for Patrón.

We all know they market the hell out of it, but why does it taste like gold if it truly is 100% agave?

Because it is made to be “non offensive”…It is a popular brand that has expectations on taste. It is a lot like Glenlivet scotch and TGIFridays. Does it taste good? Yes, I would eat or drink it. Is it great or special? No, it is just…there it is.

Not every brand plays to niche markets and some, like this, are perfectly fine if you want the exact same taste every time. Some people like more unique character and will find Patron boring , but most people that dont know tequila will actually like it, because it is a very basic/simple taste that is easier to comprehend without acting like a booze snob.

There are many factors that can affect the ultimate spirit that is in your bottle: the quality of the agave pina they’re using, the water, where they make their cuts between the heads, heart and tails, etc.

That’s like your opinion man. I agree its not the best tequila in the world, and yes it is marketed heavily, which is why it is so popular. However it is 100% agave, unlike Jose Cuervo Gold which is a mix of sugar and agave. Alot of other factors can impart flavors besides the fact that it is 100% agave.

Patron isn’t great tequila but because it has so much hype they can charge $60 a bottle and get away with it.
