Large Batch Mojito Recipe With Simple Syrup

Erins Easy Entertaining Tips

Pitcher Mojito Recipe | Easy, big batch cocktail for a party

A Mojito Pitcher, to me, is the perfect excuse to host friends for dinner and/or drinks. Whether youre hosting a casual outdoor happy hour, a backyard barbecue, an at-home tailgate party or anything in between, this pitcher is an excellent idea for easy entertaining.

This Mojito Pitcher recipe is perfect for entertaining, too, because it requires few ingredients and even less time to put em together!

Here are a few tips and tricks to make it as easy as possible:

  • Make extra. After all, if youre hosting several friends, you might as well double or triple the recipe and make more than one pitcher. If doing this, though, leave the club soda out of the backup pitcher and pour that in once guests are ready to drink it.
  • Make your simple syrup 1-2 days in advance or do what I do and make a big batch so youve always got some in the fridge. Let it hang out in the fridge, and make a lot of it, depending on how many friends are joining you. You can also make mint simple syrup to add extra mint zinginess to this pitcher drink recipe.
  • Squeeze the limes an hour or so before guests arriveor take the store-bought shortcut. Just be sure to get the fresh-squeezed lime juice instead of the shelf-stable kind. It makes all the difference, promise.
  • Make it a mocktail. Replace the white rum with the same amount of club soda.

Soda Water Vs Club Soda

Speaking of soda wateris it club soda? Is it seltzer? In this mojito pitcher recipe, we use the term soda water to mean any type of unflavored sparkling water! Here are some of the differences between club soda vs seltzer:

  • Soda water aka seltzer is carbonated water with no additives straight up bubbles!
  • Club soda is carbonated water infused with added minerals, which give it a salty, lightly sweet flavor. Its great in cocktails, like these top club soda cocktails.

In contrast, tonic water is carbonated water with added quinine and sugar. Dont use it in a Mojito because of the distinct flavor. But you can use it for a Gin and Tonic, Vodka Tonic, Tequila Tonic or Whiskey Tonic!

What Kind Of Rum Is Best In A Mojito

Traditionally, light rum is used in the mojito. It’s probably the best choice when serving a group because its taste has a universal appeal that everyone will enjoy. However, aged rums make nice mojitos as well. Avoid spiced rums that contrast the lime and mint. Whatever style of rum you choose, mid-shelf brands tend to have a clean taste that will complement the mojito’s freshness but won’t blow your entertaining budget.

What Is In A Mojito

  • Rum: White rum is traditionally whats used to make classic mojitos. That said, there are many variations with some calling for gold rum, dark rum, gin, or even vodka.
  • Fresh mint leaves: Traditionally, this cocktail was made using Yerba Buena. However, I doubt most of us can get our hands on this aromatic plant here in the US, so we have come to love and appreciate the mojito with mint.
  • Fresh lime juice: Only the fresh stuff. I even underlined it so you know I mean business.
  • Sugaror Simple syrup: Traditionally, Mojitos were made with sugar cane juice, but I didnt have that, so I used simple syrup. White granulated sugar or honey will work just as well.
  • Club soda: Unsweetened bubbly water will be added to top off each glass.
  • Ice: Because otherwise, it would taste gross. No, I do not measure my ice.

Helpful tools and equipment:

  • Cocktail Muddler. Theoretically, you could use a wooden spoon, but a muddler makes a world of difference.
  • Tall glasses such as these highball or Collins glasses.
  • Straws. I currently have my eye on these re-usable bamboo, metal, and glass straws.
