Yes and no.

Do you want it to have a more traditional flavor? Then, yes, youll want to use white rum.

Not a fan of white rum? I have used vodka in its place and while the outcome is delicious it does change the flavor profile.

I also used coconut rum in my coconut mojito.

Which is obviously delicious but you gotta love that coconut flavor.

What Alcohol Is Best For A Mojito

Traditionally, the Cuban mojito is made with light rum, and it’s a great choice for any fruity variation on the cocktail. Some great mojitos are made with aged rums which impart a deeper flavor accented with a pleasant oakiness to the drink. And, many drinkers who are partial to vodka pour that instead.

How To Store Mango Mojito

  • Refrigerate The simple syrup in mojitos can last in the refrigerator for up to a month. A pitcher of mango mojitos can last in the fridge for a few days, but dont leave lime peels in it for more than 24 hours or they can turn the flavor bitter.
  • Freeze Freeze in ice cube trays overnight then transfer to an airtight container. When ready to use, drop several cubes into a glass and let thaw in the refrigerator. Instant mango mojito! Note that the flavor may be slightly altered.

How To Make A Mango Mojito

Now that you’ve gathered the ingredients and supplies, let’s make this cocktail!

Start by chopping the mango. Mangos have a large, hard seed / pit, so make sure to cut parallel to the pit. Score the fruit with a knife, then cut it from the peel.

Place the chopped fruit in your food processor , then blend until pureed. It’s okay if there are a few small chunks of fruit, but you want it to be mostly smooth.

Tip: one large mango will make about ½ to ¾ cup puree, so you’ll have enough for two to three drinks. I’d recommend pureeing a few at a time, then storing the puree in the refrigerator until needed. It should keep for a day or two.

Next, you’ll cut a lime into eight wedges. Squeeze four of the wedges into a Collins glass , then drop them into the glass.

To the lime, add three level bar spoons of sugar and one ounce club soda. Then, use your muddler to press and twist the ingredients together a few times.

You’re simply trying to extract the liquid from the lime and combine it with the sugar. Avoid pulverizing the limes, or your drink will be bitter.

Tip: this drink only uses half a lime, so save the rest to make another drink for yourself or for a friend.

It’s time to add the mint, and I have a cool trick for doing it!

Once you smell that minty fragrance, rub the leaves over the rim of your glass, then drop them into the drink.

Next, you’ll add two ounces rum and ¼ cup mango puree. Fill your glass with ice, then top off the drink with club soda.

There are hundreds of types of mangos, however if you’re from the U.S., your selection is probably very limited. Most conventional grocery stores typically carry only one or two varieties, but any kind will work for this drink.

Look for mangos with smooth, unblemished skin. Ripe mangos should have a little give when you press gently on them . Color is not an indicator of ripeness.

It’s fine of your mangos aren’t ripe when you purchase them. Just make sure to allow them to ripen on your counter before using, because the unripe fruit will be hard and fibrous, and it won’t work for this recipe.

Ingredients To Make Mojito With Mangoes


Being the most important of them all to make the mojito. Use ripe soft bright yellow mangoes, theyre always sweeter and tastier. The riper the mangoes, the better the sweetness. Chop, blend and use this pulp as needed


Fresh bright green mint is the star ingredient for any mojito recipe, be it alcohol or non-alcohol-based recipes. Finely chop the mint and make sure to muddle it


As per taste. Regular granulated sugar must be used only as required. This also depends on how sweet the mango pulp maybe

Lime juice

Freshly squeezed lemon juice is important. It adds that extra kick to your regular mocktail

Ice cubes

Any sweetened aerated drink / sweetened soda would work. Sprite is popular out here and has a lemon-like feel to it, which compliments the mocktail. 7Up, lemonade, club soda, etc works well too

Mango Pieces & Mint Leaves

Optional but definitely needed to make the mocktail look fancy. Cut a round piece of mango and slit it. Place it on the glass with a sprig of mint for garnishing. You may even garnish it with lemon slices or add some salt & chili mix to the rim of the glass

Into a shaker, add in the mint leaves and muddle. Twist the muddler into the mint leaves about 5 times to release juice. Once you begin to smell the strong mint, you can stop. You don’t want to shred the leaves.

Add in the simple syrup, mango nectar, rum, juice from ½ a lime and top with ice. Shake this up well.

Fill two cocktail glasses with ice. Pour the shaker ingredients over the top to a little over half full.

Top with club soda.

What Is A Mojito

A mojito is a classic drink from Cuba. Its light, refreshing, and just slightly sweet.

Traditionally speaking a mojito is simply white rum, fresh limes, fresh mint, sugar, and club soda.

To release all the flavor of the mint its important to not skip the step of muddling your mint in the glass. I like to use a wooden muddler to help gently bruise the mint to release its flavor.

    What Rum Should I Use

    The best rum to use is not the most expensive, light rum since you will be mixing it with other things. Premium bottles and high prices are not necessary!

    Brad and I loved sipping it while sitting in our garden. It tastes just as beautiful virgin. So if you dont care for rum, skip it and have yourself a little taste of tropics!

    Or you can make a big pitcher without alcohol for a party and let people choose whether they want it with or without rum!

    My mango mojito is best enjoyed drinking through a straw since there are lots of little bits of mint floating around. I buy paper straws. They are prettier and so much better for the environment.

    Lets Make A Mango Mojito Mocktail

    Puree Mango

    Add the chunks of fresh mango to a blender and blend until smooth. Set aside.


    Now muddle the lime wheels, mint leaves, lime juice, and simple syrup in the glasses you plan to use. Dont muddle too much, just about 10 seconds. If you smash the mint too much, it releases a bitter flavor.


    Top the muddled fruit with mango puree and then fill the glass with ice. Finish with club soda and give it all a stir to combine. I like to garnish my mocktail with a lime wheel!

    You Can Replace The Sugar And Use A Mojito Simple Syrup:

    Mango Mojito
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 lime, cut into wedges

    Mix the water and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil until the sugar has completely dissolved and the syrup has thickened, about 5 minutes. Strain the simple syrup through a sieve to remove the mint leaves and lime wedges. Let the syrup cool to room temperature. This can be store for about a month in the fridge.

    Then muddle the lime juice, 1 tbsp simple syrup, 3 mint leaves and rum. *muddle to release oils and flavor
