FAQ’s

Frequently asked questions on how to make a really good margarita.

WHAT TYPE OF TEQUILA IS BEST IN A MARGARITA?

I’m big on buying high quality ingredients. I would rather buy an expensive bottle of tequila and drink 1 delicious margarita once a week, than buy a cheap bottle and drink a cheap margarita every day.

When it came to silver versus gold tequila, the gold tequila definitely tasted super authentic. And it gave that perfect golden color you see in authentic margaritas in Mexico and South America.

WHAT TYPE OF ORANGE LIQUOR SHOULD I USE FOR A GOOD MARGARITA?

We tried cointreau and grand marnier in our margarita experiments and found that grand marnier definitely added a smooth flavor. The cointreau tasted a little bit harsh to us so we’re saving that bottle for martinis.

Finally, never use triple sec or a “margarita mix” these are very low quality ingredients and not only will give you a headache the next day, but your margarita will taste cheap and watery!

What Does It Mean To Muddle

Never muddled fruit before?

Have no fear, its a fun word for a very simple process that will add pizazz to your homemade margarita. A mortar and pestle is a great tool to use for muddling, however, a simple wooden spoon and bowl will also do the trick.

To muddle fruit you must first cut the fresh fruit into pieces and add them to your bowl or mortar bowl. If desired, sugar can be added now as well.

Using the pestle or wooden spoon, firmly press down on the fruit and twist. Release. Repeat this until the fruit is adequately crushed and you can smell the incredible aroma from your fruit of choice.

Now that your fruit is properly pulverized, add it along with the lime. Voila, fancy flavored homemade margarita!

Pre-step

Fill a cocktail shaker ¾ way with ice. Get a measuring glass and glassware.

Slice a few thin lime wheels and cut a small slit through the skin of the wheels, so you can place them on the side of the glass as garnish.

After measuring out each ingredient below, pour it into the shaker.

Step one

Gather the ingredients tequila blanco, Cointreau, limes, simple syrup, and Grand Marnier.

Step two

Measure 4 ounces of tequila.

Step three

Measure 2 ounces Cointreau.

Step four

Squeeze and measure 4 ounces fresh lime juice.

Step five

Measure 2 ounces simple syrup.

Step six

Pour 1 ounce of Grand Marnier in each shot glasses.

Step seven

Add chunky salt like kosher or Maldon to a plate. Wet your finger with simple syrup and rub it along the rim of the glasses. Place the glass upside down in the salt and rub it along to coat the rim.

Keep the glass upside down and shake off the excess salt before turning the glass right-side up.

Step eight

Cap the shaker and shake for 15 seconds. Add a few big cubes to the glasses and strain and pour the Cadillac margarita equally between the two glasses. Mustnt play favorites. Make sure to save a little room between the liquid and top of the glass.

Here are the Cadillac margaritas with Grand Marnier shots on the side.

Time to pour the Grand Marnier in the margarita. I like to try to float it, but it will sink. Dont you think it gives them an appealing glow?!

I like to stir the drink before imbibing as it evens out the taste.

What Are These Premium Ingredients

The premium ingredients are the Patron Silver tequila, which is so smooth that you can take a shot of it without needing lime to chase it down and the Cointreau, which is one of the premium orange liqueurs. Non-premium ingredients are lime juice and simple syrup.

The last but not the least premium ingredient is the Grand Marnier, which makes this margarita a Cadillac. I love this liqueur. It is made with cognac and orange.

Want to make your own orange liqueur? Heres my friend Lauras recipe.

First, use ½ of one of your limes and run it along the edges of the glasses. Dip the glass in sea salt. Fill the glass to the top with ice.

Another delicious way to salt the rim is to get a little bit of agave nectar on your finger and run it along the rim of the glass and then dip that into the salt. The agave actually helps your salt stay on the rim for much longer!

Do I Make It On The Rocks Or Can I Have It Frozen

If I had my druthers, Id tell you to only have this margarita on the rocks. I have seen someone drink a frozen caddy but I think that having it frozen doesnt really highlight how delicious it is. It also tends to water the margarita down because blending the ice causes the water to disperse quicker than with ice cubes.

And did you know that people drink frozen drinks much faster than cocktails made on the rocks?

They do. Its because people see the separation that occurs in a frozen drink, so they take their straw and stir it around and take a healthy slug each time they stir, which is often.

When you drink the Cadillac margarita on the rocks, you can savor the drink by sipping it at your own speed.

How To Make A Margarita On The Rocks

A margarita on the rocks is the most traditional way to make a margarita cocktail. Making a homemade margarita on the rocks is simple. Basic recipes combine tequila, triple sec, and fresh lime juice to create a tangy, earthy, and slightly sweet drink. Instead of triple sec, some recipes balance out the drink’s tartness with simple syrup or agave syrup, a natural match for agave-based tequila.

While good tequila is important for a delicious margarita on the rocks scroll down to see how to choose the best tequila for a margarita fresh lime juice is just as crucial. Yes, squeezing limes by hand takes time, but the flavor is far superior to bottled lime juice. As for triple sec, it really depends on your budget. Grand Marnier and Cointreau are top quality but not the most economical options. There are many other, less expensive triple secs, including Bol’s Triple Sec, which will also make a lip-smacking margarita.

  • NEVER NEVER use a margarita mix
  • Always use FRESH lime juice, not bottled
  • Don’t forget to salt the rim!
  • What Is The Ratio Best To Use For Sweet And Sour Mix

    Grand Patron Margarita......RED LOBSTER

I prefer the 2:1 ratio between the lime and simple syrup, because any more sugar than that, in my humble opinion, makes the drink too sweet. And sweet is for chocolate! Also, as mentioned in the Helpful tips, Cointreau and Grand Marnier are both sweet liqueurs that balance the tequila and sour mix nicely.

What Type Of Patron Tequila Is Used

I opted to use Patron Silver Tequila to make these Margaritas because its Go Big or Go Home. Besides I get less of a headache if the alcohol is top shelf. I also like fresh limes so you get some of that pulp in there too. Makes it extra limey. Is that a word?

Ive also used key lime juice when the limes arent fresh and it tastes amazing!

How Do You Salt The Rims Of The Glasses

Wet the rim of the glasses with some lime juice or simple syrup, pour some chunky salt like kosher or Maldon on a plate, and dip the rim in the salt. Keep the glass upside down for a moment and shake the glass a little before placing it right side up. You dont want the salt from the rim to fall into the glass as it makes the cocktail salty.

    History Of My Cadillac Margarita

When I worked at that Mexican restaurant all those years ago, this was the best margarita you could purchase. It had a few mid range ingredients and it came with a side shot of Grand Marnier, which is considered premium. When I was ready to recreate that delicious cocktail for the blog, instead of using the liquors they used at the restaurant, I upped the game and used the ingredients I love the most.

I still serve it with a side shot of Grand Marnier, whose golden color you can see in the cocktail photos above. Once you float the Grand Marnier by adding it to the surface of the cocktail, it delicately slinks to the bottom of the glass.

And if you stir it, the whole Cadillac margarita turns that lovely gold!

Back in the day, the Cadillac car was considered premium and the car everyone wanted to own. The Cadillac margarita is the premium margarita because it is made with top shelf brands, which are the most expensive. The combination of these ingredients is perfect and delicious. Everyone I serve this margarita says its the best.

This truly is, and continues to be, the best margarita of all time.

Bold words but its the truth. Read the comments below. Its much better than the classic margarita.

    What Is A Margarita

While we are sure a lot of people have heard of Margaritas or even tasted them on occasion, not a lot of them think about what goes into making one. The basics of this drink are important to grasp if youre trying to make any variation on it, not just the Patron Margarita.

The Margarita was invented somewhere around the end of the 30s or 40s, depending on who you talk to, and almost immediately gained large, widespread popularity. Its not exactly sure who invented it, and there are plenty of different stories concerning that, but most are regarded as myths.

These stories usually involve people, usually famous ones, experimenting with different cocktails at a party and coming up with the Margarita recipe. However, the most accepted origin story is the one that claims its just a variant of the already popular American drink called the Daisy, just with brandy substituted for tequila.

What all the stories have in common is how the drink is made or at least the basics of it tequila and some orange-based liquor is used along with some lemon juice and the glass its served in is rimmed with salt. Thats still the basis of most Margaritas today and the reason it became so popular its relatively easy to make.

However, thats just the basis, and plenty of different variations on that core concept can be made, which is why the Margarita has endured as a popular drink.
