What Can I Mix With Whiskey

Peanut Butter Cup Whiskey Martini

The Real Reason Whiskey Is Healthier Than Any Other Drink

I find the decadence of this drink to be particularly arresting.

It has a silky smooth body and sensational flavor which is compliments of the cocoa liquor, creme de cocoa, and heavy cream.

Thats made even more indulgent with a peanut butter whiskey! This drink is perfect for Valentines Day, birthdays, desserts, and more.

While every cocktail on this list is fitting for St. Paddys Day, this is the cocktail to liven up the party.

Starting with a large pitcher, youll pour in orange juice, lime, bourbon, and water.

Add a splash of simple syrup to make it a bit sweeter, then top it off with club soda.

To prevent this from getting watery, youll freeze cubes of lemonade that add a zippy sour kick.

Cinnamon Maple Whiskey Sour

This cocktail has all the makings for a legendary holiday libation. Its a complex mix of sweet, sour, and spice that tastes like fall and winter combined.

The recipe features a harmonious blend of maple syrup and cinnamon with quality bourbon and a touch of lemon juice.

This recipe uses Bulleit, which is my ultimate favorite. I think the regular or rye version both go well in this mix.

The sweet nectar of passion fruit is a complementary mixer for this bourbon sour.

The intense tropical fruit melds flawlessly with the velvety creamy body thats crafted from egg white.

Youll need both passionfruit syrup and pulp to get the fruity flavors just right.

Also, Basil Haydens Kentucky Straight Bourbon is the liquor of choice for this concoction.

It has some floral and vanilla notes that are remarkable in this drink.

Old-fashioned cocktails always remind me of a dimly lit steakhouse sort of drink.

Its fancy enough to pair with steak and stiff enough for sipping after dinner.

To make this drink, youll want to use high-quality bourbon, Angostura bitters, oranges bitters, and some simple syrup to sweeten.

Youll also need an orange peel and maraschino cherry for the finishing touch.

Pairing Whiskey And Food

Cocktails arent the only way to have a flavorful experience when it comes to drinking whiskey. Pairing whiskey with food is another option. If done well, it can be a powerful combination. Think rich, savory, smokey, or even sweet foods. Feast your eyes on this three-course meal:

  • Bird Dog Jalapeño Honey Whiskey and Charcuterie
  • Like good whiskey, cheese and cured meats are aged to perfection. The spicy jalapeño flavor in Bird Dog Jalapeño Honey brings out smokey/peppery notes in the meat, while the sweet honey flavor pairs well with soft cheeses like brie and goat cheese.
  • Bird Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey and a Bacon Burger
  • Yes, peanut butter and a burger. Its a combination that shouldnt work, but does. Because actually, the rich, salty flavor of PB compliments crispy, savory bacon and smokey, grilled ground beef.
  • Bird Dog Praline Whiskey and Pecan Pie
  • Finish your flavor journey with this sweet combo essentially a deconstructed pecan praline. To our fellow Southerners, we dont need to explain why this works, but for those who havent tried pecan pralines, give this a go. The sweet, nutty flavors of each provide a satisfying end to any meal.
  • Like we said, opportunities with Bird Dog Flavored Whiskey are endless . And as always, we love to see Bird Dog done your way tag in your photos on social media to share the love.

Vanilla Extract Bakers Orange Or Any Copious Amounts Of Extract

It may sound funny to believe people out there are drinking vanilla extract and several other baking extracts for their alcohol content, but it can happen and is extremely hazardous.

If taken in extremely large amounts, the ethanol in the vanilla extract can and will cause a central nervous system depression that could lead to breathing difficulties. In asthma sufferers, it could be a death sentence. Extract abusers have dilated pupils, flushed skin, digestive issues and it can lower your blood pressure dramatically causing dizziness and fatigue and possibly even fainting and or blackouts.

You can even suffer from hypothermia from not being able to regulate your own body temperature or having the feeling of being hot from the alcohol-like effects and taking off clothing in cold temperatures. So extracts mixed with conventional alcohol like whiskey can give you alcohol poisoning very easily.

    Please drink responsibly!

Can You Mix Whiskey With Syrup And Honey

Simple answer is yes, both syrup, like maple syrup, and honey can be mixed into cocktails that contain whiskey. In some cases, you want to thin it out with warm water at a ratio of 1:1.

For example, you could make a Hanzo Steel, which has Japanese whisky, thinned honey, amaro, and grapefruit bitters. A Smoked & Salted contains Four Roses Bourbon, thinned syrup, and Crude Smoke & Salt bitters.

    What Mixes Well With Whiskey

Some drinks that mix well with whiskey are 7-Up, Coca-Cola and water. Popular drink recipes that use whiskey include a Manhattan, whiskey sour, old fashioned, Algonquin cocktail, Irish coffee and mint julep.

Whiskey with 7-Up or Coca-Cola is the recipe for two popular drinks, the seven and seven and Jack and Coke. Water mixed with whiskey lessens the effect whiskey has on the tongue and makes it easier to drink with a meal.

The ingredients for a Manhattan are 2 1/2 ounces of rye whiskey or bourbon, 1/4 ounce of sweet vermouth, a dash of bitters, an orange twist and a cherry. A whiskey sour has 2 ounces of whiskey, 1/2 teaspoons of powdered sugar, half of a lemon slice and lemon juice. An old fashioned combines 2 ounces of whiskey with a dash of bitters, a sugar cube, a cherry and slices of both orange and lemon. An Algonquin cocktail has 1 1/2 ounces of whiskey, 3/4 ounce of pineapple juice and 3/4 ounce of dry vermouth. Irish coffee has 1 cup of coffee, 1 1/2 ounces of Irish whiskey, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and whipped cream. A mint julep has 2 1/2 ounces of whiskey, 2 teaspoons of water, 1 teaspoon of powdered sugar and 4 sprigs of mint. Whiskeys also work well when mixed together. Chocolate can taste good when eaten with whiskey.

    Jim Beam Kentucky Sunrise

Ive mentioned plenty of Jack Daniels and Bulleit drinks, but now its time for good old Jim Beam.

This Kentucky bourbon cocktail is simple, sweet, and citrusy. Other than Jim Beam, all youll need is some orange juice and grenadine.

The fresh fruity taste and overall simplicity make this the epitome of summer whiskey cocktails.

Of course, I cant mention whiskey cocktails without talking about one of my favorite mules.

The Kentucky mule is a vibrant libation packed with fiery ginger beer and fresh lime.

I love how beads of condensation build up on the copper mug that keeps this cocktail ice cold.

An award-winning classic film needs a stiff drink that can live up to its legendary reputation.

This cocktail recipe manages to do that with just two ingredients, bourbon, and amaretto.

Amaretto is a sweet Italian liqueur thats very fitting for this drink.

Mix it with bourbon and it adds some flavorful nuances that make this surprisingly complex given the short ingredient list.

Basic Guidelines For Pairing With Baileys

Science Says You Shouldn’t Drink Your Whiskey “Neat”

When you sip on a glass of Baileys, it feels almost like youre drinking an ice cream float. The drink is flavorful and dense but also simple enough to blend with other drinks.

This spirit is great to enjoy on its own, but its even better when mixed with other drinks. No matter what you choose to mix it with, its sure to be delicious.

The only hard rule to abide by when mixing Baileys is to avoid citrus notes. Any drinks containing high citric acid levels should be left alone, as they can cause your Baileys to curdle. Simply put, dairy and citrus dont work well together, and fruit can be questionable, as well.

Guess what that means? Yup, you guessed it. No sodas or juices.

The concoctions youll create with this creamy drink definitely differ from your conventional cocktails. In many ways, Baileys mixed drinks are a lot more fun to experiment with.

You can make peach juice and whiskey using the same formula as apple cider and whiskey. You can also enjoy peach juice and whiskey by making a Bourbon Peach Smash:

  • Dice half of a large peach
  • Place diced peaches, 30 pls of simple syrup, and 4 mint leaves into a cocktail shaker
  • Muddle the ingredients
  • Add 60 ml of bourbon and ice to the cocktail shaker
  • Shake then strain into a short glass filled with ice
  • Top with ginger ale or soda water

You might be surprised to learn that ginger mixers taste fantastic with bourbon whiskey.

The ginger adds a lot of zing to the sweetness and spiciness of the bourbon, making for a drink that is quite refreshing.

Use a ginger mixer like ginger ale the same way you would use Coca Cola in a glass with ice and a mixture of about 1 part of bourbon to 5 parts ginger ale.

There are also many cocktails that incorporate ginger and bourbon including this terrific ginger ale, lemonade and bourbon cocktail:

  • Fill a high glass halfway with ice.
  • Add 45 to 60 ml of bourbon
  • Add lemonade until inch below the rim.

Old Fashioned Cocktails For A Crowd

My favorite cocktail of all time is also one of the simplest. At its core, an Old Fashioned is just whiskey with a little sweetener and a few dashes of Angostura bitters. Making a big-batch version for a party is super easyrather than stirring each drink, you’ll add a little water to the bottle to dilute the whole recipe, then chill it.

    Drinks Where Bourbon Really Shines

Does Mixing Alcohol Make You Drunker?

The Old Fashioned, Mint Julep and Whiskey Smash are good places to start . With no other full-flavored ingredients to compete against, the flavor of the bourbon can really shine in these drinks. I prefer the softer flavor of wheated bourbons here, but that’s a matter of personal preference. Maker’s Mark is always a good choice, as is W.L. Weller . And since the full flavor of bourbon comes through, you can even splurge on a higher-end whiskey such as Black Maple Hill or George T. Stagg.
