How Quickly Does Alcohol Break Down In The Body

This cannot be answered in general terms. How much alcohol you have in your blood at any given time in the evening does not only depend on how many alcoholic beverages you have drunk so far. It also depends on whether youve eaten something before. Your age, weight, and size also play an important role.

How To Spice Rum At Home

Not only is it possible to spice your own rum at home, it’s also even easier than you’d think. As you may have gleaned from the previous section, there’s a decent chance you already have what you need sitting in your spice rack. There are a few different rum-spicing recipes floating around, which seem to incorporate things like allspice berries, cloves, cinnamon, vanilla beans, nutmeg, orange peels, and cardamom. Of course, most of the fun to be had when infusing your own rum comes from experimentation, and there are certainly worse things to learn to make by trial and error.

Ideally, you’ll want to use 750ml of a moderately aged rum. Adding spices won’t magically turn a light rum into a dark rum, but you don’t want anything that’s aged long enough for the oakiness to really seep in, as it means you’re not working with a blank canvas. From there, it’s all about combining the ingredients with your rum in an airtight, lidded jar, making sure to scrape the seeds away from your vanilla bean before both components are added in. Then, shake and store somewhere that won’t get too much direct sunlight.

Based on what you read earlier about how long rum is aged, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to learn that it only takes two days for your homemade infusion to properly mature. Once those 48 hours are up, pour the whole thing into a new bottle and you’re good to go.

Go Camel Riding In Wadi Rum

Does Alcohol Go Bad? Yep, So Here

Enjoying the bumpy ride!

The second unmissable thing to do in Wadi Rum is going for a camel ride. Wadi Rum sightseeing couldnt get any better than this! Unlike the camels in Petra which looked to be a little too skinny and exhausted, the camels of Wadi Rum are living in the desert for many generations and are cherished by their owners.

During many years, they were the main mean of transport to roam the desert and particularly helpful in everyday life. Also known as the ships of the desert, they can carry up to 270 kg and are often the main source of wool, milk, and meat in the desert.

On top, their entire body is made to resist the harshness of the desert: they can close their nostrils against sandstorms and two rows of long lashes protect their eyes. On top, they are some of the most resistant animals you can find out there: they can survive up to 6 months without food or water!

The Camel Trek in Wadi Rum was one of my highlights as it allows to be close to nature and to travel slowly. It gives you plenty of time and quietness to appreciate the beauty of the breathtaking orange-pink landscapes.

A little bummer was the fact that the guide was all the time walking in front of us. The trek was thus really slow and you know my love for adventure. Camel riding is one of the classic Wadi Rum tours and can be booked at any camp.

You can also choose between a sunrise or sunset camel ride in Wadi Rum.

    What Are Rum Punch Variations

What Alcohol Does to Your Body

There are many variations on rum punch and a Barbados rum punch is one of them! This rum punch recipe uses Barbados rum and a dash of Angostura bitters.

    • Coconut Rum Punch made with coconut rum instead of your traditional rum.
    • Trinidad Rum punch adds raw sugar and nutmeg to the mix and omits the grenadine
    • Hawaiian Punch can be used in place of grenadine and fruit juices.

Any flavored rum could be used in place of the traditional white and spiced rum.

You Might Have A Hangover In The Morning If You Drink Rum Every Night

If you drink rum every night and always go hard with it, there’s a good chance you might wind up with a hangover the next morning. And as noted by Dr. Regina Krel, a headache medicine specialist at Hackensack University Medical Center, there’s a lot going on when you have a hangover. “The actual mechanism of what happens during a hangover is still not clear but is thought to be a result of the toxicity of acetaldehyde on the body, changes in electrolytes, dehydration, and low blood sugar,” she penned in an article for Hackensack Meridian Health. “The most common symptoms during a hangover include headache, nausea, dizziness, feeling sleepy or sluggish.” Yuck.

So if you wake up every morning with a hangover, you may want to cut back on the amount of rum you drink every night. Additionally, make sure you’re eating enough while drinking, as well as avoiding sugars and drinking plenty of water those actions can help you prevent a hangover, according to the Mayo Clinic. And fortunately there are a few breakfasts that can help cure your hangover that you can enjoy the next morning like breakfast tacos.

    How Is Rum Made

Compared to some other spirits of the world defined by strictly-regimented production methods, there’s no one universally proscribed way to make rum. That lack of standardization may have something to do with the fact that it’s a product of the West Indies, as different islands have their own way of doing things when it comes to rum. Puerto Rico keeps things light, for example, while Jamaica is more associated with aged rum produced with help from something called “dunder.”

Molasses, a byproduct of the sugarcane refining process, is a fairly essential ingredient no matter what rum you’re working with, but even that’s not a universal necessity. Sugarcane juice sometimes takes its place when traditional sugar refining methods aren’t possible. Sugarcane juice more commonly forms the basis of rum in France’s former Carribbean territories. Down in Brazil, fermented sugarcane juice makes a slightly different but equally wonderful spirit called cachaça.

    Related: What Is Molasses?

Rum distillation begins in earnest when water and yeast is added to that molasses or sugarcane juice, which helps kickstart the fermentation process. The specific yeast employed at this phase is the earliest point of divergence between what will become light and dark rums: Lighter rums are often associated with “faster” yeasts, while more fuller-flavored rums tend to be associated with “slow” yeasts. However, it’s worth noting that the yeast itself doesn’t lend a rum its particular color.

    Wadi Rum General Information:

Weather in Wadi Rum: weather conditions are rough in summer and in winter. During winter, temperatures can go as low as 0°C at night and go up to 15°C during the daytime. Thus, bring extra pajama! In the summer months, the heat can be really intense: always carry water, apply a lot of sunscreen and plan your activities for cooler times of the day. At nighttime, even in summer, temperatures can go very low: make sure to bring extra warm layers.

Dress appropriately: wear comfortable hiking shoes and wear light, long, cotton clothes. The Bedouin have traditional values, thus it would be inappropriate to wear miniskirts and short tops in a Wadi Rum Bedouin camp. During the winter I would recommend having a fleece jacket from REI.com for cold nights.

the desert holds countless scenic photo motives. However, the best are probably the colors of Wadi Rum desert at sunset or sunrise. Ask your Wadi Rum camp staff where to find the best spots. Wadi Rum is also a great location for night photography.

Be open-minded and listen. The Bedouins have unique stories to tell and their sense of community is something you wont find everywhere. For me, it was a deeply touching experience, listening to the songs of Hussein in the Wadi Rum Quiet Village and how the desert shaped their lifestyle during generations.

If You Drink Rum Every Night You Can Boost Your Mood

Does Rum Go Bad? How Long Does Rum Last?

There’s a reason that happy hour is called happy hour: After a hard day at the office or at the job site, you can finally unwind and enjoy discount food and alcoholic beverages at your favorite restaurant or bar. And although that might be enough in and of itself to make you happy, the rum helps too, as noted by Laura Krebs-Holm, a registered dietitian. “Like most alcoholic beverages, rum can help you relax,” she explained to The List. “Additionally, many people enjoy a drink in the company of others, which can also help to improve mood.” Certainly that could tempt anyone to drink rum every night.

So what’s the specific mechanism at work that makes rum drinks such a mood booster? According to Live Science, drinking alcohol causes your body to release endorphins, which are chemicals that induce a pleasurable response in certain areas of the brain. Hence the warm glow you feel after a rum runner or two.

Opened beer has a shelf life of about a day. Thankfully, you can easily tell if your bottled beer has gone bad. Most beers have expiration dates printed on them or their package.

â?³ Yeah, Alcohol Can Go Bad. Here is Proof. Tequila & Liqueur Taste Comparison

Back in the early days of rum, infusing it with spices was the easiest way to make the raw spirit palatable. Pretty much any edible plant could make its way into local mixes back then. Today, things are a little more consistent, and vanilla, cinnamon and clove are usually the main flavor components, along with things like nutmeg, orange peel, allspice and cloves. With all of those rich flavors already present in the rum, its easy to find a mixer that works. Here are the seven best things to mix with spiced rum.

You May Improve Your Heart Health If You Drink Rum Every Night

Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control. To that end, if you’re invested in looking after your heart health, it’s wise to mind your diet, get some exercise, and not drink too much alcohol. All of those factors play a huge role in keeping your ticker in shipshape.

Fortunately there’s a little bit of good news for folks who drink rum in moderation, as noted by Laura Krebs-Holm, a registered dietitian. “The moderate consumption of alcohol has been tied to a few indicators for heart health,” she explained to The List. “It is thought that like other distilled spirits, rum may help act as a blood thinner and prevent blood clots. It is also tied to lower blood pressure, and higher rates of HDL, or ‘good’ cholesterol.'”

It’s important to note that this benefit only comes with moderate consumption, so, if you’re knocking back multiple rum drinks every night, that would no longer be the case.
