Mojitarita A Cross Between A Mojito And Margarita
We may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.
The Mojitarita cocktail is a cross between the Mojito and the . It blends mint and lime with silver tequila instead of rum, and the taste is incredibly refreshing perfect for a hot summers day.
The tequila adds a surprising flavor kick compared to rum. If you took a Mojito and swapped out the rum for tequila, youd get a less sweet drink with the Mojito not being all that sweet to begin with.
So this recipe adds a little agave syrup for sweetness. The flavor of this drink is a little more citrus than the Mojito, and the taste of cactus comes through clearly.
Make sure you pick a good, drinkable tequila that you like the flavor of.
Be sure to muddle the mint for a good little while, to bring out the maximum taste. The longer you muddle, the more mint flavor youll get.
The lime taste is also strong in this drink, but the mint balances them both out. This is a great drink for cooling off on a hot day, or enjoying by the pool.
If you love Mojitos, but occasionally want a little change from them, this drink makes a great alternative. This is also a nice alternative to a Margarita it basically swaps the orange liqueur for mint.
If that sounds like a treat, its definitely worth a try.

If youre going to mess around with a mojito, you might as well know why. Tequila, a regionally distilled beverage, and type of alcoholic drink made from the blue agave plant is made primarily in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, in the central-western Mexican state of Jalisco. Tequila must use only blue agave plants rather than any type of agave and its commonly served neat in Mexico and as a shot with salt and lime across the rest of the world. Most rums are produced in the Caribbean and American countries, but also in other sugar-producing countries, such as the Philippines and India. Rum is produced in various grades. Light rums are commonly used in cocktails, whereas golden and dark rums are typically consumed straight or neat.

A Brief History Of The Mojito
The history of the mojito is shrouded in as much mystery as my blacked-out nights drinking them at a Chilis in Ocean City, MD. However, much like these nights, Ive been able to piece together a coherent timeline with thorough research and documentation.
The starting point of mojitos is disputed, but it is widely believed to have gotten its start at La Bodeguita del medio, a restaurant/bar in Havana, Cuba.
Another widely believed claim is that the drink was invented by African slaves working in Cuban sugar cane fields and was, at its foundation, just a basic sugar cane alcohol.
However, there is another story that goes even furtherback.

Where Was The Mojito Invented
The mojito originated in Cuba, possibly derived from a 16th-century medicinal tonic known as El Draque . Itâs said that in the 1800s, Africans who had been enslaved and working in Cubaâs sugarcane fields commonly took a similar elixir. As it advanced from tonic to beverage, the mint, lime, and sugar masked the taste of cheap rum. Havana lays claim to inventing the cocktail as itâs known today with the introduction of ice and soda. The mojito grabbed international attention when Americans flocked to Cuba during Prohibition. It was supposedly second to the daiquiri on Ernest Hemmingwayâs list of favorite cocktails. Over the years, the rum improved, and the mojitoâs fame spread immensely.
Mojitos are the favorite mixed drink of many people, especially during hot weather. They are quite thirst-quenching and bursting with the tastes of fresh, crushed mint leaves and freshly squeezed lime juice. Mojitos are traditionally made with either gold or light rum but vodka as well as other liquors can be substituted, although the tropical taste of rum will be missing.

A Mojito With Vodka: Pros And Cons
Is a mojito recipe with vodka good? Can you substitute vodka in a mojito? Heres our honest opinion:
- A vodka mojitoloses the tropical fruitiness thats the essence of a true Mojito. We dont recommend it unless you ran out of rum or are mixing the drink for someone who cant stand the stuff.
- The vodka mojito still tastes good! Think of it like a Vodka Gimlet with mint. Its minty and refreshing. However, theres almost no perception of alcohol since vodka is a very neutral spirit. Its a little, dare we say it, boring.
