What Drinks To Make With Gin

Citadelle Gin & Lemonade

Four Easy Gin Drinks

First of all, its a very easy cocktail to make at home with ingredients you can find in any supermarket. You dont even need a shaker, just a glass or a pitcher and some ice. Its everything we need right now with heatwaves and lockdown all around the world. Fresh yet complex with the touch of honey. I recommend wildflower honey for this one. It pairs with the botanicals from Citadelle Gin perfectly. It reminds me when I stayed over at Château de Bonbonnet, where they distill the gin. It was a hot summer too and we were drinking Tom Collins . Nico de Soto, owner of Mace and Danico

Ingredients:

1 oz. fresh lemon juice

0.5 oz. honey

4 oz. sparkling water

Method: In a jug or single serve glass, combine Citadelle, lemon and honey, stirring until honey is completely dissolved. Add ice and fill to top with sparkling water. Garnish with fresh lemon or aromatic herbs.

How To Make A Gin Gin Mule

A Gin Gin mule is only slightly more involved than the classic version. Youll have to muddle mint, and then mix it with lime and simple syrup. Heres what to do :

  • Muddle: Muddle the mint by gently mashing it a few times in the bottom of the glass, using a cocktail muddler or a wooden spoon.
  • Mix: Add the gin, lime juice and simple syrup and stir.
  • Serve: Add ice and pour in the ginger beer.
  • What Kind Of Gin Should I Use To Make A Gin And Tonic

When making gin and tonics, choose a gin that is mid- to high-shelf. A London dry gin , Plymouth or Bombay work well. London dry gins will be more straightforward in flavor while Plymouth gin will be a bit more aromatic. Weve also used Bombay Sapphire and loved it, but we really enjoy Sapphires extra spiciness.

Gin is a fascinating liquor to explore. Its botanicals give it a characteristic that no other liquor has one brand can have a completely different profile from another and it is surprisingly versatile when it comes to flavor profiles. Gin is also the foundation for some of the best drinks ever made, including the iconic martini.

Though certainly not as numerous as vodka cocktails, there are thousands of great gin cocktails to explore and the list can be quite overwhelming. Some cocktails work best with a specific gin, some are for acquired tastes and others are reliable and always there for us when we need them.

If you’re just starting out on your journey through the world of gin cocktails, we recommend the ones listed below as essential to your experience. All are quite popular, some more than others, and each has a different appeal that has drawn in drinkers year after year for decades.

The selections include gin at its best in the simplest of mixes as well as in the more complicated, often disputed, and finely balanced recipes. These classics are some of the most timeless drinks that you will find.

Try It Naturally Sweet Or Use Simple Syrup

Alex and I love naturally sweetened drinks, so we love using pure maple syrup in most of our cocktail recipes. It sweetens drinks in a gentler way than simple syrup and it gives it a more nuanced flavor. When we taste test back to back, maple syrup always wins! Simple syrup has a more straightforward flavor: you can use it if you prefer!

What Is The Best Ratio Of Gin To Tonic

A gin and tonic should be crisp and refreshing, never boozy or heavy. After doing some research, ratios can vary. Some enjoy equal parts gin to tonic, others reduce the gin and double the tonic. For us, we liked it right in the middle, which kept the drink light and crisp, but still aromatic from the gin.

Whats The Gin And Coke Ratio

How to Make The Gin Fizz – Best Drink Recipes

Tip 1 to making the best Gin and Coke recipe: use the right ratio! Often restaurants mix up a version of this drink thats too heavy on the coke. Use the right ratio to get just the right flavor combination. The Gin and coke ratio is:

    • 2 ounces gin to 4 ounces cola =
    • 1 part gin to 2 parts cola

Of course, you can play around to find your favorite quantities. Some people complain that cola totally overwhelms the delicate flavors of gin, but they peak out beautifully in this ratio. If you prefer more gin, you can try the ratio 2 ounces gin to 3 ounces cola.

Whats A Vegan Egg White Substitute For Cocktails

    Tanqueray Passionfruit Sunrise Cocktail

Now, lets say you have a vegan guest: or you eat plant-based yourself. What to use as a vegan egg white substitute in cocktails? The answer: Aquafaba. Whats that? Aquafaba is the liquid thats in a can of chickpeas. Because its so starchy, it can work as a binder similar to an egg.

Since 2 tablespoons of aquafaba equal 1 egg white, you can use 2 tablespoons of aquafaba in this recipe as an equivalent to the actual egg white. It makes for the same type of foam!

    How Is Gin Made

Professional Gin manufacturers use a process that requires a large piece of equipment called a Still , where the base spirit and the chosen botanicals are mixed and heated to release the flavours of the botanicals. This process is called re-distillation.

However we can mimic this process at home by simply creating our own Bathtub Gin, where we combine the base spirit and botanicals to infuse over time without heat. The end result will still taste like a rather splendid Gin, the only difference being the re-distiliation process will produce a clear Gin, where as the basic Steeping process used at home will not be totally clear. But thats fine!

Adding Botanical Mix To Your Still Column

7 BEST GIN COCKTAILS (and How to Make Them with 10 Ingredients!) – VOL. 1

After youve cleaned your still thoroughly, youll need to add your botanical mix to your still column. For this, you will roll up about 20 inches of copper packing and insert it into the bottom section of your stills column. Then wrap your crushed botanical mix into a folded piece of cheesecloth. Be sure to fold the sides of the cheesecloth upward to make a small satchel. Tie a string around the top of your small botanical satchel.

Lower your botanical cheesecloth satchel down the column onto the copper packing using the string. If you are using a still with a site glass section, clamp it below the section of your column with the copper packing.

If your still setup has a condenser, hook up your water input and output.

Next, youre going to add your gin mash water into your still. We highly recommend using a siphon for this process. This method is the best way to reduce the amount of sediment from your fermented gin mash water getting into the still. Leaving particles and sediments in the mash water will cause the distillate to burn and ruin your product, so be diligent during this step.

Best Gin For A Gin And Coke

You can use any type of gin for a gin and coke. Heres one thing to note: the cola is strong enough to cover sub-par alcohol. But this doesnt mean you should use bad gin! Yes, you should save your top shelf gin for a Gin and Tonic. But this drink shines with good gin.

Wed go for a mid-priced gin: price typically correlates with quality when it comes to alcohol. A brand we like is Malfy gin: we prefer it over something more floral like Tanqueray. We also like using locally distilled gin from 8th Day Distillery or Hotel Tango in Indianapolis: find a local distiller if you can find one!

    Is A Copper Mug Required

    Sloe Gin Cocktails for Summer

Well, a copper mug is never required. But its just more fun! The Gin Gin Mule is often served in a glass . Because its the signature drink of a bar in NYC, its a little more free-form than the classic. But you can certainly serve it in a copper mug, like we chose to here! The copper mug is also perfect for a Moscow mule with gin. Why is it served in a copper mug? A few reasons:

    • The mug turns ice cold, which gives a cool sensation on each sip. This drink tastes colder when you drink it out of the solid copper mug, which becomes cold the minute the drink hits it. It adds another sensory element to the drinking experience.
    • Tradition! When youre drinking a classic cocktail, its fun to drink it the classic way. Back in the 1940s when the drink was invented, the public saw images of Hollywood celebs enjoying the drink in copper mugs. It caught on and became the classic way to drink it to this day.

For a tart, dry mixer for your gin, try cranberry juice! We like to mix our gin and cranberry juice with a twist and squeeze of fresh lemon or lime to give it added zing, particularly if your juice has added sweeteners.
