How Did We Came Up With Making Cocktails Really
Cocktails were born somewhere at the end of the 18th century, mostly in the United States and England. They were very successful in the 1920s during the prohibition period in the United States, because adding another drink made it possible to hide the bad taste of the contraband alcohol available at the time.
The mixed drinks could be made either with or without alcohol and are divided into two main categories, the long drinks of 120 to 250 ml, often served as aperitifs and also short drinks of 70 to 100 ml enjoyed as aperitifs or digestives.
The cocktails can be prepared with various spirits such as whisky, rum, gin or vodka. Here are some timeless homemade whiskey cocktails recipes for making cocktails with different types of whiskies.
Note: Sometimes we use cl instead of ml in cocktail preparation and 1 cl = 10 ml, so keep that in mind when you see the cl measure somewhere.
Also, a dash equals about 10 drops if you are using milliliter-dropper and about 1/5 of a teaspoon.
Punch Is Probably Its Poppa
If you think about it, a Whiskey Sour is really just a mini single-serve version of a traditional punch recipe: booze, citrus and sweetener, plus dilution. Think about it in the reverse: Could you take the bourbon, simple syrup and citrus and supersize it? Why, yes. Its like the liquid version of a palindrome, or something like that. Lets contemplate it over a Whiskey Sour, shall we?
What Does Rye Whiskey Taste Like
Rye whiskeys have lower alcohol content than most whiskies because they do not come through distillation as often or as high heats to evaporate off all liquid.
Rye whiskey has a distinctively earthy, peppery taste.
The spice content can range from subtle to intense, and the flavors are often described as spicy, tangy, or sharp.
Many people believe rye is better with grilled foods than bourbon because of its spicier flavor profile.
Rye also mixes well with cola-flavored sodas, which is often done in a Manhattan cocktail.
There are many producers of rye whiskey on the market today, including Bulleit and George Dickel.

What Does Whiskey And Tea Taste Like

This makes whiskey and tea drinks particularly enjoyable when consumed on a cold winter night or rainy afternoon.
The flavors of the two ingredients tend to complement one another.
A good tea can provide herb, citrus, and fruit flavors, without getting in the way of the flavors provided by whiskey.
Whiskey can contribute many additional different flavors, depending on the type of whiskey you use.
A good Scotch whisky might add citrus, dried fruit, dark chocolate, spices, tobacco, peat smoke, and oak.
Use a bourbon whiskey and you might notice more caramel, molasses, vanilla, and honey.
Irish whiskey is particularly good choice, as it can add delicious floral, fruit, herb, and vanilla flavors to your tea. This can work really well with certain tea varieties, like Darjeeling tea and Earl Grey tea.
Although whiskey is quite flavorsome, it doesnt dominate the flavor of tea. Combining whiskey and tea is like partnering wine and cheese they both make the other ingredient taste better.
Given that there are so many different teas and whiskeys available, the challenge is finding a combination that you enjoy. Below are a few recipes to help you get started.

What Does Peaty Mean When Describing Whisky
You may have heard of peat or peaty whisky, but do you know what peat is? Peat looks like soil, but its really partially decomposed vegetable matter such as moss and tree roots and develops in wet, acidic conditions such as bogs. It was traditionally used as fuel in Scotland. Because it is so slow to develop, it is classified as a fossil fuel. When peat is dried in a kiln used to malt barley for whisky, it produces a peaty aroma thanks to the organic compounds known as phenols, a type of carbolic acid found in smoke tar. But this isnt the aroma of burnt wood or ash but smoky just the same. The scent of peat can also be described as seaweed, briny, fish oil, iodine, rubber tire, soapy, sulfuric, medicinal, rich, fruity, spicy, grassy, herbal, nutty, citrusy, creamy, or even salty. Since 90% of what we taste is based on aroma, we associate the flavors with peat.

Dilute Bad Tasting Whiskey With Water
Diluting your whiskey with water does three things. First, it dilutes the alcohol content of your whiskey which is another way of ensuring the alcohol wont get in the way of you tasting the whiskeys actual flavors or ruin your tasting equipment.
Second, it dilutes any bad tastes which, like cold inhibiting the bad flavors of whiskey wont necessarily make bad whiskey taste good but it will make bad whiskey taste better.
Thirdly, adding water to whiskey opens up new and more subtle flavors. Yes, they may be just as bad as the original one, but since even one drop of water changes the taste of your whiskey, if you add one at a time you will significantly increase the chances of finding a taste you like and making your bad whiskey taste good.

Age Bad Tasting Whiskey To Give It More Flavors
A whiskey acquires 80% of its flavor during the aging / maturation process. This is when whiskey is stored in barrels for years or even decades so that changes in temperature and humidity will cause the whiskey to seep into the wood of the barrel and then back out again picking up all sorts of chemicals in the process . The more this occurs the more the wood of the barrel transmits different and intricate flavors to the whiskey.
At the same time the chemicals remove some of the unpleasant sulphury notes and some of the lighter and more volatile compounds evaporate through the barrel walls. The upshot of all this is that some of the whiskeys harshness is removed making it smoother, while plenty of flavor is added giving it much of its well flavor.
Since whiskey is not something that just has a flavor because of what it is, but is given a flavor because of how its made, you can make bad whiskey taste good with a similar process.
There are two ways of replicating the commercial aging / maturation process yourself.
The first is by adding oak wood sticks to your whiskey. When the temperature rises the wood expands and the whiskey is absorbed into the wood and when the temperature falls the wood contracts and the whiskey is expelled. Just like barrel aging, the flavors in the wood are transmitted to the whiskey.
Try using Oak Infusion Spirals which you can find on Amazon here.

What The Vodka Cranberry Drink Tastes Like
The Vodka Cranberry is sometimes thought of as a beginners drink because its not very strong and you dont really taste the alcohol. But its a delicious drink for anyone.
The great thing about this drink is how refreshing it is without being strong. The lime and cranberry are both tart, which really wakes up your taste buds.
But you also get some sweetness from the dash of orange juice, and that makes it delicious.
Note that some bartenders do make this drink much stronger. The classic recipe only calls for an ounce of vodka, but some put in a good bit more.
When its mixed according to this recipe, the only reason youll know the vodka is in there is that slight burn you feel as it goes down. And it is really slight.
If you want a regular strength drink, you certainly can bump the vodka up to the standard 1 1/2 ounces without changing the flavor noticeably.
If you want your drink on the strong side, bump it up to two ounces of vodka and just reduce the cranberry juice accordingly.

When All Else Fails Make Punch
Because punch can take just about any bad alcohol and make it palatable with juice!
Think of it this way: a well-crafted beer should be enjoyed in its pure form, but a ‘just-okay’ beer doesn’t need this kind of reverence. If you’ve got a few extra ingredients on hand, such as vodka or juice, these can be combined into one tasty alcoholic punch.
