Vodka Lemonade Slush Recipe
Ever been to Universal Studios? It was one of my personal favorite trips as a kid, but now that Im older Im starting to realize that I wasnt even a big fan of all the rides.
It was the delicious frozen lemonade that I loved so much, I remember protesting at home to go to Universal Studios, all because of the lemonade.
And now, 20 years later, Im still a big fan of it. In fact, I make frozen lemonade for practically any special occasion or gathering. Sometimes I catch myself brainstorming what we could celebrate, just so I can prepare this delicious frozen lemonade slush!
However, one thing has changed since I was a kid, not with me , but with the slushies. I added something. I added an ingredient all adults love, booz!
Meet the delicious, boozy, Vodka Lemonade Slushies and heres my special recipe, as well as step by step instructions on how to prepare them.
Fun fact about VodkaDid you know that Gin is basically just flavored Vodka? There you go Gin fans, Vodka is better!

Be Mindful Of The Ice
That may sound silly, but it is actually important with making cocktails! Have you ever made fresh lemonade and then added it to a pitcher of ice and 1/2 hour later it is diluted and blah? If you add 4 cups of ice you could potentially have up to 4 cups of water diluting your lemonade, which can definitely affect the flavor.
Although I added ice to the pitcher in the images, that is not how I typically serve it. When making lemonade specifically to serve with cocktails, I definitely do not add ice to the pitcher as you will have ice in the glass.
Making A Punch Or Pitcher
To make a large batch punch, gallon, or pitcher you simply need to keep the ingredients in a 1:3 ratio, so for every one part vodka, add 3 parts lemonade.
For one liter of vodka add a half gallon of lemonade, plus 2 additional cups. This will make about 16 cocktails.
Refrain from adding ice to the pitcher or punch bowl to avoid watering down the flavor. Instead, add the ice to the glasses as you serve it.
To make a gallon of vodka lemonade add 32 ounces vodka, or 4 cups, with 96 ounces lemonade, or 12 cups. Shake or stir, and then refrigerate until ready to serve. This can be prepared up to 3 days in advance.

What Kind Of Lemonade Is Best For Vodka Lemonade
We prefer homemade lemonade when it comes to vodka lemonade becuase you can control how sweet and how sour the lemonade is.
Some people like it sweeter and others like it more sour. If you dont have time to make homemade lemonade, you can totally use any store-bought lemonade. Here are some of our favorites:
- Simply Lemonade
How To Make Homemade Lemonade: Pitcher Or By The Glass
The key to vodka lemonade is a high-quality homemade lemonade. This recipe makes a pitcher of 8 to 9 cups, which is 8 servings of vodka lemonade. Its got just the right amount of sugar, but its not too sweet. You can also make it by the glass, if youre making only one serving at once. Heres what to do:
- Juice the lemons. This is the most time consuming part of the process! A citrus press juicer makes quick work of it.
- Mix the sugar with warm water. Theres no need to make a simple syrup on the stove. Just mix sugar and warm water.
- Add the cold water and lemon juice. Thats it! Go to our homemade lemonade recipe for the quantities for a pitcher and by the glass.

How To Make Lemonade
Lemonade is a breeze to make. Heres how:
Make the simple syrup. The rule of thumb when making simple syrup is to use equal parts sugar and water. Combine in a medium pot and bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring until the sugar has completely dissolved. Transfer to a measuring cup to cool while you juice your lemons.
Juice your lemons. I try to buy big, juicy lemons . See what I did there? Use a juicer, or, if your lemons are on the larger side, a reamer or a hand-held squeezer works fine. Just be sure to strain the pulp and seeds.
Stir it up. Add the fresh lemon juice and simple syrup to a large pitcher, along with 3-5 cups of cold water. I suggest starting with 3 cups water then tasting for sweetness, adding more as desired. 5 cups is my preferred amount, but everyones palate is different, so let yours be your guide!
Quench that thirst. To serve, thinly slice a lemon and add to your pitcher. Chill the lemonade in the refrigerator until youre ready to serve, or you can serve it immediately.
Note: I dont like to add ice cubes to the pitcher before serving, because theyll melt and throw off the juice/syrup/water ratio. Fill a glass with ice, add one or two lemon slices, then fill with lemonade.
How To Double Or Triple The Recipe:
Make more simple syrup. To double the recipe, use 2 cups of sugar and 2 cups of water for simple syrup . To triple the recipe, use 3 cups of sugar and 3 cups of water . Double or triple the rest of the ingredients too.

Which Liquors Go Best With Lemonade
Rum and vodka are the best liquors for a neutral-flavored lemonade that will appeal to various tastes. Theyre not your only options. As the Lynchburg lemonade and other cocktails prove, some whiskies work as well. Stick with Tennessee whiskey, bourbon, or blended whiskey scotch is not a great choice unless its in a more complex mix like the witch hunt. Tequila will work, but you might want to switch to limeade or a mix of lemon and lime juices. When Life Hands You Lemons Make 3 Gallons Of Lemonade
So why do I have a half gallon of lemonade in the refrigerator and two gallons in a Thermos vat on the patio after serving nine people and sending a pitcher full next door?
Because it seems that all you really need to entertain three kids for hours is a lemon tree and a Juiceman Jr. Good thing its cold here. The vat outside should stay fresh for a few days.
It was a desire to get three kids outside and out of my hair for a while that led to the project. The back-yard lemon tree was loaded this year, but I feared the weekend frost would put a hurt on the crop. So I sent the kids to pick lemons, promising wed make lemonade when they finished.
To someone whod lived most of her life on the East Coast, lemonade in January at first sounded counter-intuitive. Thats a summer drink, just made for hot, muggy days. Once you head West and realize that winters when the citrus crop comes in, though, your perspective changes. Particularly once youve tried homemade from tree-fresh lemons.
Our first batch wasnt until December this year, because thats how long it took me to repossess the Juiceman from someone whod borrowed it six years ago. Id gone through the manual process the previous winter, and my wrists knew I didnt want to do that again. Not when I had a perfectly good juicer sitting in someone elses garage.
It had sat in our garage for years before that, exiled in one of Dads counter-cleaning kicks that quickly followed the health kick that led to its purchase.
How To Make Vodka Lemonadethe Easy But Never Basic Way
With a few additions, youve got the robustly flavorful cocktail youll be sipping all weekend.
A vodka lemonade can be deceptively, well, basic. Thats neither an insult nor an endorsement of the cocktail, so much as it is a challenge. When you have a drink that seemingly only requires lemonade and vodka, the recipe feels foolproof, but its not. Just because a vodka lemonade is simple doesnt mean it is without its variability: A vodka lemonade can taste awful. Too much vodka? Then youre back at college, without the wherewithal to make a cocktail. Cheap lemonade? Then its a sugar bomb, only masked by the liquor. This is a chemistry experiment, in a way.
With this vodka lemonade, its all about the add ons. Againa vodka lemonade with low-end, high-sugar lemonade is going to taste like candy and leave you with a massive hangover . If sugar is listed before lemon juice in the ingredients, youre in trouble. A bit of club soda will help cut the sweetness, but playing with the simple syrup really adds the additional layer of flavor. As noted, the optimal summer flavor, in my humble opinion, is a bit of strawberry rhubarb. Not only does the strawberry essence play well off the tartness of the lemon, but the rhubarb ensures that the strawberry doesnt fully steal the show.
