Kings County Distillery Chocolate

Bird Dog Peach Whiskey [Flavored Whiskey Review]

Liquor.com / Tim Nusog

Brooklyns Kings County Distillery produces this chocolate whiskey by infusing its spicy moonshine with cocoa husks from Mast Brothers Chocolate Factory in the same New York City borough. The result is rich and dark chocolaty, but not too sweet. Pro tip: It makes quite a decadent Manhattan.

What Kind Of Peach Whiskey

Every time I go to the liquor store, there are more brands of peach-flavored whiskeys.

My two favorites are made by Leopold Bros., Georgia Peach Flavored Whiskey, or Rocky Mountain Peach Whiskey.

Leopold Bros. whiskeys are very affordable. Unfortunately, Leopold Bros. liquors aren’t distributed everywhere.

Other whiskeys you may want to consider are:

  • Peach Crown Royal
  • Peach Street Colorado Straight Bourbon from Caskers
  • Bird Dog Peach Flavored Whiskey from Western Spirits
  • Ole Smokey Salted Peach Whiskey
  • Old Camp Peach Pecan Whiskey
  • Jim Beam Peach Bourbon Whiskey
  • Crown Peach Whiskey

Sqqrl Peanut Butter Whiskey

SQQRL Peanut Butter Whiskey is made by prominent whiskey producer Jim Beam so you can have confidence in its quality despite its slightly unconventional nature. This is a good option for those who are skeptical of this novel new category of whiskey but still want to try it.

Its a beautiful amber color with light golden hues with a strong aroma of freshly roasted peanuts. This is balanced nicely with sweet notes of butterscotch and chocolate.

The palate is similar, opening with strong, smooth peanut butter and a touch of chocolate. The finish is long with more roasted peanuts and sweet, lingering butterscotch.

A Short History Into Bird Dog Whiskey

In 2009, Western Spirits decided to release a line of flavored whiskeys to select markets. At first, the only flavor available was blackberry, but its popularity soon became clear, and Bird Dog Blackberry whiskey went national.

In 2013, Western Spirits released Bird Dog Peach whiskey and Bird Dog Hot Cinnamon whiskey.

For some, the idea of anything that tastes different from a real hearty whiskey is just wrong, but Western Spirits only makes flavored whiskeys that make sense. That is to say, while some of the flavors sound utterly bizarre, their combined flavors actually work.

Not all flavors stand the test of time. For example, in 2014, Bird Dog Moonshine was released.

This blend of Bourbon and peppermint is not one of the 13 flavors on the market today.

This is one of many suggestions that come from Skrewball themselves, and its a popular one. Its a nice warm drink, perfect for a rainy night in or a cold winter evening. Its simple all you must do is add one and a half ounces of your chosen peanut butter whiskey to four ounces of hot apple cider.

For some extra warmth garnish with a cinnamon stick.

You can scale the recipe to create as many servings as you need. Its a tasty, simple drink to share at any kind of gathering, especially in the colder weather.

Sheep Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey

Sheep Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey is produced in Kentucky and takes pride in its highly natural flavors. It has a light caramel color with vanilla and caramel joining the natural peanut butter on the palate, with subtle whiskey undertones. Leave it in the glass long enough and youll notice some butterscotch coming out.

The drink has a unique, complex, and lingering finish. Youll notice a warm, somewhat dry bite that devolves into a combination of vanilla, caramel, coffee, oak, butterscotch, and whiskey flavors to accompany the ever-present peanut butter.

Because its a bit drier with a stronger whiskey identity, its great for mixing. Youll notice the peanut butter flavor but there are plenty of flavors present in the background to offer balance and complexity. The drier nature does well to balance out a nice chocolate martini, for example.

The Best Peanut Butter Whiskey

  • Pin

Whiskey itself dates back quite far in history, and flavored whiskey, in general, is not new. Peanut butter whiskey, however, is pretty new to the scene. Today, many brands are producing their version of peanut butter whiskey, but it all began with what many still consider the best peanut butter whiskey Skrewball.

Skrewball as a company is as new as the peanut butter phenomenon as they were created because of the idea. The whole thing began with a bartender in Ocean Beach California. He owned a bar that was well known and loved within the local community for being a place one can go for community, support, and a great time.

The peanut butter idea originated as a shot but eventually evolved into a full-on drink. Not many were originally on board with the idea, but its now a staple on the menu at this bar. It quickly swept the rest of the nation, as well.

Currently, Skrewball is known for its peanut butter invention and nothing else. But, most companies go on to create several collections and a wider range of spirits so who knows what the future will bring. Perhaps their next idea will be even crazier than peanut butter.

Theres no doubt that Skrewball is still the go-to for most, but that doesnt mean other companies arent doing a good job. There are plenty of other options out there if youre looking for something a little different, but still, peanut butter flavored.

Bird Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey

Peach Flavored Whiskey Bird Dog Whiskey

Bird Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey is a surprisingly affordable bottle for the strength and quality youre getting. It offers a solid, varied flavor profile without veering too far away from peanut butter. Many say it rivals the original Skrewball quite well.

The nose offers warm peanuts with a hint of wood and char. The palate brings aromatic notes of vanilla and sweet caramel in the background of smooth peanut butter flavors. The finish is slow and warm with more peanuts and a hint of sweet caramel at the very end.

The flavor is smooth and bold enough to sip neat while also pairing quite well in many fun cocktails. Its bottled at 80 proof which is a little more than most others of its kind. The additional alcohol balances the sweetness just a little without making it too harsh by any means.

Lighten Up Peach Whiskey Cocktails With Seltzer

Finally, I’ve used peach-flavored seltzer water to freshen up this whiskey mixed drink and give it a sparkling feel.

I love no calorie seltzers like peach Le Croix. You could also try plain sparkling water if you don’t want to make your cocktail too peachy.

When shopping for peach seltzers make sure to check that your sparkling water is no calorie.

You don’t want to go too sweet or add extra calories to what’s supposed to be a lightened drink.

    Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey

Bird Dog Black Cherry Whiskey | “Black Cherry & Cola” | Find Your Flavor

Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey is the original peanut butter whiskey, created by a passionate bartender who had an equal passion for food. He had the brilliant idea to combine his two favorites whiskey and peanut butter. He turned it into what he thought was a delicious shot, but others were skeptical.

Eventually, though, the shot became the signature of his bar. Riding on the success, his wife helped him create an actual peanut butter-flavored whiskey that tasted even better than the original shot recipe.

The whiskey side of this drink is bold and loud, with the peanut butter coming across as rich, smooth, and strong. Its a confident mix that doesnt disappoint.

The peanut butter aroma is candied and nutty, with notes of vanilla custard and chocolate fudge. The palate has a medium body with notes of caramel and corn to go with the sweet and smooth peanut butter flavors.

Western Spirits itself started in 2007 with it Flagship brand of “Lexington Bourbon” named after one of horse racings most successful thoroughbred sires, is an 86 proof bourbon that has garnered high ratings in reviews, but they really didn’t make a big splash until Bird Dog. Bird Dog of Bowling Green, Kentucky, is a line of flavored whiskies and straight bourbons that debuted in 2009 with is first standalone brand of “Blackberry-flavored Whiskey.” Bird Dog is wholly owned by Western Spirits and its Director for Brand Development Klay Kelly said the overwhelming response from liquor stores, whole sellers and end consumers has spurred the company on to develop other flavored iterations. Blackberry was followed in spring 2013 with “Peach-flavored Whiskey” and “Hot Cinnamon-flavored Whiskey.” A year later in 2014, Western Spirits introduced its “Maple-flavored Whiskey.” Then really bucking the trend in the industry they released a standard “Kentucky Straight Bourbon” in the Bird Dog name. All Bird Dog Bourbons and whiskies are bottled in Kentucky and at 80 proof while many flavored whiskies are made at 66 to 70 proof.

Tasting Notes: Bird Dog Small Batch Bourbon

Bird Dog Whiskey Hot Cinnamon 750ml

Vital Stats: This is an 86 proof, non-age statement, rye-recipe bourbon.

Appearance: The bourbon has an appearance of honey and the faintest touch of amber. Overall, the bourbon seems young and thin with minimal legs.

Nose: The floral notes from the rye shine through on the nose with a touch of dark fruit underneath.

Palate: Citrus and currant notes lead off the front. Theres a slight cereal grain and earthy undertone that leads into a short, not particularly memorable floral and spice finish. To me, the palate indicates that the dogs stay in the barrel was a relatively short one.

What Whiskey Is Used In The Bird Dog Range

The whiskey is a Kentucky Bourbon that has been barrel-aged. Kentucky Bourbon has a rich blend of sweet and smoky as the barrels are often charred oak.

The use of real bourbon, adding unique flavors, and maintaining 80 proof is what makes Bird Dog flavored whiskeys stand out from competitors.

The Kentucky Bourbon is also available to buy without the added flavors.

Bird Dog Blackberry Flavored Whiskey / Whiskey Review
    06/24/2019

Blended and flavored whiskeys are red hot right now, consumer demand for brown spirits continues to rise with American Whiskey in particular seeing some phenomenal sales growth.

Regular readers know that I am a fan of flavored whiskey, I’ve always got a bottle of something in my freezer for a chilled shot or flavored specialty in the liquor cabinet to enjoy on the rocks. My favorite in all this tasting fun so far, has been Yukon Jack Jacapple.

Today’s tasting is Bird Dog Strawberry Whiskey. I’ve sampled Bird Dog Blackberry Whiskey, was well as Bird Dog Apple, both of which I enjoyed.

Here’s the description from the Bird Dog website:

Perfect for sipping, shots or mixology, Bird Dog Strawberry Whiskey blooms with a light, sweet strawberry flavor throughout.

    Potency: 80 PROOF / 40% Alc/Vol

    Color: Golden Amber

Nose: Sweet, fresh strawberries and a hint of rich bourbon

Body: Vibrant strawberry mixed with notes of a well-aged, woody bourbon

Finish: A sweet berry fade accompanies a subtle warmth

Costing me about $16 for a 750ml bottle, the price is reasonable but this particular Bird Dog flavored whiskey is NOT a repeat buy. Best used in mixology – NOT sipping or shots – Bird Dog Strawberry Whiskey gets just 2 out of 5 Bachelor on the Cheap stars. Given how I enjoyed their Blackberry and Apple flavors, I expected better.

    $pend Wisely My Friends…..
