What Kind Of Rum Goes In Rum Punch
Thats right, 4 kinds of rum! However, if you dont have that many kinds of rum in your liquor cabinet, you can substitute easily.
- White Rum
- Coconut Rum
- Flavored rum
If you dont have flavored rum, you can skip it and just add double one of the other rums, etc.
This is such an easy drink: just rum, pineapple, and a little grenadine for color. This might not be your traditional rum punch, but its delicious.
Beware rum punch packs a punch, if you get my drift. With 4 types of alcoholits strong. Add more pineapple juice to make it smoother to taste.
Whether youre craving Caribbean rum punch or Jamaican rum punch, this recipe is good for all three. Its the perfect punch recipe for a party!
How To Make The Sunset Effect
The best part of a Malibu Sunset drink? That lovely gradient of color from deep red to orange to yellow! Its visually stunning and very easy to make at home, with a simple lesson in density. Heres what to do:
- Pour the rum and juices in an-ice filled glass. Theyll mix together because theyre all the same density.
- Slowly pour the grenadine into the middle of the drink. It sinks to the bottom, because its denser than the other liquids.
- Stir gently once to get the gradient effect. This helps the colors to blend a bit: but dont do it too much, or the drink will become all one color!
Brinley Gold Shipwrecked Coconut Rum
This unique coconut expression begins with a base of molasses-distilled dark rum named for its golden color. The time spent in barrels gives it a traditional oak flavor that blends exceptionally well with the natural flavor of coconuts.
Brinley Gold Shipwrecked Coconut Rum offers an authentic coconut experience as they use premium island coconuts in the recipe, leaving behind no trace of artificial flavor.
This oaky undertone mixed with notes of clove is a unique take on a coconut flavored rum but the idea was a risk worth taking as the rum is a real crowd-pleaser. The unique and varied flavor profile makes it a nice coconut sipper, but it also adds an interesting touch to various tropical cocktails that call for coconut rum.
Adoring fans constantly note the rum as being extremely smooth when enjoyed neat.

Malibu And Ginger Ale
Want a tasty, refreshing Malibu cocktail that takes 1 minute to mix together? Try Malibu and Ginger Ale! Its similar to a Dark and Stormy, but the ginger flavor is subtler and melts right into the coconut rum. Add a squeeze of lime and its the perfect refreshing highball. Its a great way to make a fast and easy cocktail with a bottle of coconut rum.
Ingredients: Malibu Coconut Rum, ginger ale, lime
What Flavors Did We Use
Of course a true Tiki drink like the Coconut Rum Painkiller needs another tropical flavor to support it. We wanted to stay true to the original Painkiller cocktail recipe we turned to fresh pineapple juice. Pineapple juice gives this cocktail a nice tangy flavor while adding a bit of sweetness and a bit of golden color to the drink.

Theres A Darker Side To Malibu
For those of us looking for slightly higher SPF, er ABV, with our Caribbean sunshine, the good folks at Malibu went ahead and created Malibu Black, a 35-percent-ABV rum-based liqueur . Its a mix of dark rum and coconut-flavored, rum-based liqueur, proportioned such that the sugar content that caws like a shore bird in Malibu original is hushed here, with most of the flavor coming in as dark, chewy, and hot, like a melted Tootsie Roll that will get you buzzed.
Can You Make A White Russian With Rum
Of course you can! I know that a lot of cocktail recipes typically call for a specific liquor. But truly most can be interchangeable.
You can make a White Russian without vodka. Just use white rum, or you can take it up a notch like I did and use coconut rum. Spiced rum would even work.
Plus, instead of milk Im using coconut milk. And its so tasty and dairy-free! Kahlua and coconut milk together is a match made in heaven.

Or Use Coconut Rum For A Tropical Flair
Another type or rum to use in Rum and Lemonade is coconut rum! Most brands of coconut rum are actually a coconut liqueur, because they have a lot of added sugar and a lower alcohol content than rum. Heres what to note:
- Coconut rum has delicious tropical notes: and sugar! Its got a delightful coconut-y finish. This version will be sweeter than with the types of rum above.
- Malibu Coconut Rum was launched in 1982 as a way for bartenders to simplify making the Piña Colada. Its the most popular brand on the market, but there are many others you can try out.

Scotch And Coconut Cocktail
We promised you a Scotch coconut drink and we have delivered it!
This coconut cocktail is stout because it has both aged rum and scotch. Youll also need dry curacao, coconut water, demerara syrup, and mole bitters to make this strong drink.
To serve this coconut cocktail, you can stir it with ice and strain it into a rocks glass. However, you can also serve this cocktail over ice cubes.
Make It By The Pitcher Or Glass
Rum and lemonade is so laid-back, you can make it several different ways. Its great for entertaining with a big pitcher, but most often we make it as a glass. As we mentioned up top, its loads tastier with homemade lemonade.
- Make the homemade lemonade. Make a big pitcher, or a single serving of homemade lemonade! Go to that post and search for the by the glass variation.
- Try fruity variations. You can also pair with with various fruity flavors of lemonade like watermelon lemonade, strawberry lemonade, or lavender lemonade.
- For the pitcher, use 6 cups lemonade and 2 cups gin.
- For the glass, use ¾ cup lemonade and ¼ cup gin.

Winter Sunshine Rum Cocktail
Most Malibu cocktails are all about summer and the beach, but this icy mixed drink is geared more towards the winter months.
Honestly, it still screams summer to me, thanks to the overwhelmingly sweet flavor and aroma of coconut, but it looks like a glass of winter snow, making it ideal for the holidays.
Pineapple Coconut Malibu Rum Summer Cocktail Recipe
Ah, summer. In most places in the country, its the perfect time to escape outside, to enjoy the warm weather. Especially with a delicious summer cocktail like this Piña Co-Lava made with Malibu coconut rum, pineapple juice, ginger ale, and grenadine syrup .
Here in Phoenix, you wont catch me going outside unless I have to. Unless its to tumble into a pool. And quite frankly, at the point in the summer, the pool water is so warm that its like taking a bath. Not especially refreshing . We dont have a pool of our own, but luckily, I have AWESOME neighbors with pools, who graciously open up their yards to our family each summer. I like to give back a little something whenever I canand sometimes, that means bringing over the perfect summer drink. And let me tell you, this is it.
I made a quick stop to my local grocery store, and picked up everything I needed to make a thank-you beverage for allowing my girls to splash around in the aquatic sanctuary of my neighbors pool.

Between The Sheets Cocktail
One of the most well-known rum cocktail recipes is the Between the Sheets cocktail, probably because of its tongue-in-cheek name.
The origins of the Between the Sheets cocktail are unknown, but its a spinoff cocktail of the Sidecar, which was invented in Paris, France at Harrys New York Bar.
The Between the Sheets cocktail is made with Cognac, rum, fresh lemon juice, and orange liqueur such as Triple Sec or Cointreau.
Cointreau has a wonderful orange perfume flavor that balances well between sweet and bitter, so give this a try if you have Cointreau .

Making The Coconut Syrup
Now you’re going to make the sugar syrup. If you really don’t want to add sugar to the recipe, you don’t have to , simply divide the coconut into the two jars and pour on the rum. Sugar syrup, I’ve found though, is the way to go with these for ‘sweet’ infused spirits .1. Combine the sugar and water in the medium saucepot if you haven’t already2. Put on stove over medium high heat. You’re going to want to stay put and watch, as it’ll go fast. You want to completely dissolve the sugar into the water, then simmer away some of the water. It will get cloudy then go clear. 3. Let simmer about two minutes. You do NOT want it to start turning brown a little color won’t hurt it, but that’s not what we’re going for.4. Add the coconut and stir to combine. It’s going to look pretty ‘dry’ since there’s more coconut than syrup, but it will cook down a little. I had a particularly high yielding coconut so it almost didn’t look like enough, but your mileage may vary. 5. Let simmer another couple minutes then remove from heat.6. Let cool a bit before proceeding…sugar is VERY hot.
Water You Drinking This Summer
Its no shock that we love Malibu as much as we do. The coconut Caribbean rum is popular by name alone. Its always been one of my favorite drinks for cocktails and mixed drinks during the summer. Then again, I do have a bit of a bias for coconut-flavored anything . Malibu loves to incorporate other fruity flavors into their coconut rum as well, and have even released their own line of sparkling cocktails.
A bottle of Watermelon Malibu is 750 mL and has 21% ABV. Its already available on totalwine.com and may already be stocked on store shelves near you. You can grab a bottle for just $13.99. What a steal!
The most important thing is, of course, what to mix it with.

What About The Painkiller Cocktail
The original Painkiller cocktail recipe is truly a tropical cocktail, hailing from the famous Soggy Dollar Bar in the British Virgin Islands. Bartender Daphne Henderson was working in the early 1970s at the little bar overlooking White Bay. Customers had to swim up to the beach as there is no dock for their boats!
Looking for a way to cure what ailed her customers She came up with the Painkiller, a creamy, citrusy riff off of another coconut cocktail, the pina colada.
Frozen Watermelon Coconut Mojitos
Frosty, fruity, and sweet, the frozen watermelon coconut mojito is a fantastic way to cool off on hot summer days. Fresh juicy watermelon, bright lime juice, and garden-fresh mint blend with coconut rum in this iced concoction that makes an ideal patio or deck sipper. Garnish this frozen fruity slushy with coconut shreds, lime slices, mint sprigs, and watermelon wedges.

Taste Of Rum Margarita
The rum margarita has a rummy taste. Its very similar to a traditional margarita, but with rum instead of tequila! Rum has a sweet, smooth taste and adds some extra flavor. This drink is easy on the palate and quite refreshing as well perfect for those hot summer days when all you want is something cool to sip on while lounging by the pool.
Rum is a spirit thats made from fermented and distilled sugarcane juice or molasses. It has an alcohol content of around 40% ABV which makes it stronger than beer but weaker than hard liquor like vodka. The rummy taste comes from the rum itself, which has a sweet flavor with hints of vanilla and caramel.
