Where To Buy Cheap Tequila

Best Reposado: Espoln Tequila Reposado

Total Wine’s BEST CHEAP tequila. Worth it? | Cheap Tequila Reviews | The Tequila Scout

Espolon is definitely my favorite inexpensive tequila, says Kira Calder, general manager of Lona Cocina & Tequileria in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The reposado is rested in American oak barrels, which creates subtle notes of vanilla and caramelperfect for spirit-forward tequila cocktails. All of its expressions are delicious and highly underrated.

The tequila, which is aged between two and four months in white oak barrels, “is a great sipper,” says The Holler’s Ray. It has a touch of sweetness and citrus. Its best with just a few ice cubes, although I also suggest drinking it with a lemon peel to bring out the citrus notes.

Beyond a bartender co-sign, this bottle has received many medals awarded at international spirits competitions. The design on the label features a tribute to Mexican culture, inspired by Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada.

The crystal-clear Bribon is unaged with vegetal earthy notes that work well in a margarita, paloma, or old-fashioned, though Jessica Fallon, general Manager of Ladybirds in Houston, Texas, says she prefers drinking it on the rocks.

Bribon is a solid tequila for its price, says Fallon. Its a tequila I recommend to new agave drinks because its approachable and has a bright flavor.

Bottles of Bribon are produced at the historic Casa Don Roberto distillery in the heart of Tequila town.

Spicy And Smoky Margarita

Heres what you need for this delicious twist on a classic margarita:

  • 2 oz cayenne-infused blanco tequila
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 oz agave nectar
  • Lime-cayenne salt
  • Chile-lime cantaloupe

First, shake tequila, lime juice, and agave nectar with ice. Then, strain into a cayenne-salt-rimmed glass. For the finishing touch, add a chili-lime cantaloupe spear.

Best For Margaritas: Casa Dragones Blanco

Region: Jalisco, Mexico | ABV: 40% | Tasting Notes: Herbaceous, Green peppercorn, Anise

Instead of sipping this high-end tequila, Volfson recommends trying it in a margarita. A margarita is about the relationship of three ingredients: tequila, triple sec, and limes,” she says. This tequila from Maestra Tequilera Bertha González Nieves gives off flavors of soft herbaceousness and grassy garden crispness, green peppercorn and fennel seed, cardamom, anise seed, and a bit of juiciness, which Volfson feels mingle well with the bright cirtus character of the triple sec and lime juice.

“The layers of orange blossom in Casa Dragones, along with the orange in the triple sec, brings together the drinks fruitinessthe recipe doesnt need as much lime juice as others, so it showcases the spirits with each other. Yana Volfson, beverage manager at Cosme and ATLA restaurants in New York

Best Value: Pueblo Viejo Blanco

courtesy of Checkersliquors.com

Region: Jalisco, Mexico | ABV: 40% | Tasting Notes: White pepper, Agave, Mint

Tequila’s popularity has skyrocketed in recent years, and the top bottles now command cultish prices formerly reserved for the rarest of Scotches and small-batch bourbons. But there are still plenty of great values for those with the patience to seek them outand it’s hard to think of an inexpensive tequila that over-delivers on quality quite like Pueblo Viejo. A secret favorite in the mixologist comminity, Pueblo Viejo blanco is crafted using 100 percent blue Weber agave, which is cooked in stone and brick ovens and crushed by a traditional rolling mill called a tahona. The classically-made tequila boasts a nose of white pepper and a rustic, unapologetic palate replete with bright agave and fresh mint.

Once you claw your way through the limited-production bottlings and the celebrity vanity projects, you’ll discover that solid tequila can still be found at budget pricesand the Pueblo Viejo blanco is Exhibit A.

Hubiku Cenote & The Tequila Museum Mexico

You may have read about our tour of Chichen Itza in my last Mexico blog post, so I see you are hungry for more. Part deux of this little trip, you might say? Okay, okay, they speak Spanish over there not French, but you catch my drift. As part of our Chichen Wonders tour with Thomson Holidays we also got to visit two more places, one of which was Hubiku, home to the popular Hubiku Cenote & the Tequila Museum, Mexico. It was in the mad heat of the day and after a whistle stop tour of the buffet dinner at Kin Restaurant, it was time to jump in to the cool waters of this natural sink hole.

When we arrived we were met by the cutest little, old VW beetles. We saw them everywhere on the highways, it would be every vintage enthusiasts dream! I just love how everywhere you turn Mexico is filled with colour, bright palettes and jazzy patterns. Its an absolute feast for the eyes and so magnificent to see such a colourful existence in play.

With a bottle of tequila in tow, a slightly cooler body temperature & a rather fuzzy head from the tequila tasting it was time to hop on board the bus and head to Valladolid which is about half an hour away from the Riviera Maya. We only stopped there for half an hour but it was such a pretty place that I am going to dedicate another whole post to it, more so for the photos I captured of this traditional town.

Best Cristalino: 1800 Cristalino

$19.99 HANDLE of Tequila? Good or Bad? | Cheap Tequila Review | The Tequila Scout

Region: Jalisco, Mexico | ABV: 40% | Tasting Notes: Sweet, Smooth, Peppery

A recent innovation, cristalino is made by stripping the color from aged tequila. Its essentially a way to circumvent the steep pricing of agave due to crop shortages by using what distillers already have in stock. The 1800 Cristalino is a good bottle to uncork when drinking with non-tequila fans. Blended from 16-month-old añejo aged in American and French oak, its rested for an additional six months in former port barrels before double filtering. As youd expect, its sweet on the nose and the palate, with a luscious mouthfeel, but it finishes with some of the pepperiness that bespeaks the agave. Sip this neat or on ice.

Best Aejo: Gran Centenario Aejo

Region: Mexico | ABV: 40% | Tasting Notes: Orange peel, Cinnamon, Vanilla

The term “añejo” refers to a tequila that’s been aged in oak barrels for one to three yearsan investment of time and resources that often finds the resulting tequilas priced out of the “cheap” category. Gran Centenario, however, still offers their solid añejo at a price that won’t put too large a dent in your pocketbook. Established in 1857, and crafted at a historic distillery in the Jalisco highlands, Gran Centenario produces an añejo that boasts a nose of cinnamon and oak followed by a creamy palate resplendent with notes of orange peel, pear, and vanilla. Lure your neighborhood whiskey drinker over to the agave side with this enticing and affordable añejo.

Region: Mexico | ABV: 40% | Tasting Notes: Vegetal, Citrus, Peppercorn

Cheap tequilas are often very harsh, says Matthew Sentas, general manager for Precinct Kitchen + Bar in Boston. However, Milagro is an inexpensive tequila that is smooth and agave forward so it is easy to drink. The silver, reposado and añejo are very tasty and inexpensive. The silver expression is a perfect example of how an artfully made blanco tequila can become your go-to sipper.

The Best Cheap Tequilas Under $25 Right Now

These are the 18 best tequilas money can buy, and they

Prior to being enjoyed as a shot with lime, mixed in a , or simply sipped neat, there are a lot of steps in tequila production.

Agave plants, which provide the juice for fermentation and distillation, take seven years to reach the ideal age for production, and a total 12 years to grow to full maturity. Once distilled, the spirit may then age for anywhere between a few months to more than three years prior to release, depending on which style is being produced.

Long story short: It takes a long time to make even the simplest tequila expression. And time, as the age-old adage goes, is money. But remarkably, you can still pick up a high-quality bottle of tequila for a relative bargain. In fact, for less than $25, there are several bottles worthy of a place on your liquor shelf.

VinePair staff members recently tasted more than 20 nationally available tequilas priced at $25 and below. While some definitely lend themselves to being mixed in cocktails, others surprised tasters with their versatility and quality, even when sipped neat at room temperature.

Here are eight of our favorite tequilas, priced at $25 and under.

Why Are Aged Tequilas More Expensive Than Unaged

It’s a two-part answer: the time and the barrels. Oak barrels cost money , and the investment in quality cooperage is reflected in the price of your reposado or añejo. And then there’s the time: a reposado must age for a minimum of 60 days, and an añejo must age for at least a year. Between the income lost during the waiting period and the actual spirit lost to evaporation, tequila will inevitably get more expensive the older it getsa characteristic it shares with nearly every other aged spirit.

This is 100 percent agave tequila with a great history, says Jose Medina Camacho, bar manager at Automatic Seafood & Oysters in Birmingham, Ala. I love it in a tequila tonic, or just neat with a glass of sparkling rose. One of my favorite things about it is that it pays homage to Mexican culture from the art on the bottles to the balance of juice in the bottle.

What Tequila Is Best Blanco Or Yellow

Its important to note that tequila has a designation of origin , that is if the Tequila doesnt come from Jalisco, Nayarit, Guanajuato, Tamaulipas or Michoacán, its not Tequila. Something similar to what happens with Cognac and its confusion with Brandy.

The correct answer is just what you prefer.

Are All Tequilas Made Of 100 Percent Blue Weber Agave

Nearly all premium tequilas are made entirely from blue Weber agave , but there’s another category of tequila called “mixto” in which blue Weber agave need only compose 51 percent of the spirit. Producers utilize various types of sugar to make up the remaining percentage, including high fructose corn syrup and molassesalthough sometimes a lightly processed Mexican cane sugar known as piloncillo is what’s used. If your bottle doesn’t indicate on the label that it’s made from 100 percent agaveand if the price is on the lower end of the spectrumthere’s a good chance that you’re dealing with a mixto. While less expensive, these tequilas don’t reflect a historically anthentic approach to the composition of the spirit.
