Especially, if you are planning an intimate get-together to celebrate the festivals, you must make sure that you drink and serve the best-tasting whisky. This year has been quite a ride.
Why You Can Add Water To Whiskey
If youre new to the world of whiskey, you might roll your eyes at the prospect of adding a few drops of water. How could a drop of water make a difference?
A splash of water can be a great thing, says Tardie. A little water releases the hydrophobic elements in the glass, allowing you to detect more aromatics on the nose and, by lowering the alcohol content, it can allow you to taste more flavors on your palate.
The easiest way to go about this is with a glass of water and a straw. Simply add a drop, give your whiskey a swirl, take a sip, and repeat until you find the pleasing flavors youre looking for. The bigger the splash, the more diluted your whiskey will become, achieving the effect of ice without chilling the refreshment.
Do You Add Room Temperature Water To Bourbon
However, even at this strength, the alcohol and dominant flavors in bourbon whiskey can mask the more subtle flavors. This is why drinkers often add a splash of room temperature water to their bourbon. The water will separate the ethanol and guaiacol molecules in the drink. This will make the bourbon more flavorsome and palatable.

Chill Bad Tasting Whiskey With Ice Cubes To Inhibit The Bad Flavors
Adding ice cubes to whiskey quickly lowers its temperature calming the burn of the alcohol. With the alcohol somewhat supressed it will no longer overpower the whiskeys flavors or numb your taste buds making you unable to taste those flavors in the first place. You may be able to make a bad whiskey taste good simply by ensuring youre tasting the delicious flavors of the whiskey and not the unpleasant ones of the alcohol.
Additionally, if its the flavors of the whiskey that taste bad, the ice cubes will supress them too. This is because cold inhibits the flavors of a whiskey.
If ice cubes dont work, you can put your whiskey in the fridge until its cold enough that you cant taste the bad flavors.
You may not have made bad whiskey taste good in the sense of it now having a great taste, but you will have made it taste good in the sense of it not tasting foul anymore.

Can You Mix Whiskey With Other Alcohols
Yes. You can mix whiskey with several different kinds of alcohol, like rum, vodka and tequila, to create unique mixed drinks and exceptionally scrumptious flavors. Many recipes that involve whiskey cocktails usually require more than one type of alcohol base.
For example, some martinis can contain both whiskey and vodka, like the Irish Martini cocktail. Or The Suburban, which contains rye whiskey, dark rum and port as well as bitters. Another drink is called Another Fine Mes, which has whiskey, tequila and orange liqueur.
Some mixed drinks do not require the alcohol to mix together but rather layering and sitting atop one another without mixing. This is called layering.
Layering your drink
When you dont want the alcohol in your mixed drink to actually mix but rather layer, there is a general rule of thumb to help keep your alcohols separated. First remember to keep adding your alcohol one shot at a time. Second remember that the less the proof of your alcohol the denser or heavier it is.
So you want to start with the liquid that has the least alcohol proof and work your way up in proof. Try not to add two alcohols with the same proof together because they may mix together.

Bring Bubbles Back To Your Champagne
Chances are you’ve left some champagne out only to find it’s falling flatbut it’s an easy problem to solve. As The Kitchn explains, you just need a few raisins to restore bubbles if your champagne is starting to lose its vigor.
As your champagne starts to lose its bubbles, drop a few raisins into the bottle: the carbon dioxide responsible for the carbonation in champagne attaches to the raisin’s nooks and crannies, then re-releases back into the drink itself. In a few minutes, your champagne will be back to its former, bubbly self.
Oh, and don’t worryyour champagne won’t taste like raisins, either.

Turn White Wine Into A Spritzer
White wine tends to grow sour a few days after being uncorked and sometimes, cheap wine is just sour, period. Instead of sacrificing the bottle, turn that wine into an entirely new drink: a bubbly wine spritzer.

To make a spritzer, simply add some carbonation. Whether you want to grab soda water or a can of soda, salvaging your white wine is as easy as pouring a fizzy drink into your wine glass to create a sweet and light drink.
Add Bitters To Bad Tasting Whiskey To Give It Flavors You Like
Bitters are alcohol-based flavoring agents. Theyre generally sold in small bottles where each drop contains a lot of flavor.
Theyre made by infusing a neutral spirit with any number of aromatics including herbs, spices, tree bark, roots, seeds, fruits to name these. The end result is a bitter sour or bittersweet flavor. And so the mystery of the name is cleared up once and for all.
Originally intended for medicinal purposes its now mostly used for something more enjoyable, namely: cocktail flavorings and alcoholic drinks. This is a recurring theme in human development. For some reason you all already know.
There are lots of bitters with a variety of different flavors, from the more traditional Angostura bitters that have a spicy flavor with hints of clove and cinnamon or Peychauds bitters that taste slightly more sweet with fruity notes, to new and unusual flavors like chocolate, coffee and cherry. This makes the number of flavor profiles for bitters nearly endless.
You can add bitters to any whiskey to give it additional flavors so its certainly able to make your bad whiskey taste good. You can try WoodfordReserve Bitters Bundle which you can find on Amazon here.

Pairing Whiskey And Food
Cocktails arent the only way to have a flavorful experience when it comes to drinking whiskey. Pairing whiskey with food is another option. If done well, it can be a powerful combination. Think rich, savory, smokey, or even sweet foods. Feast your eyes on this three-course meal:
Bird Dog Jalapeño Honey Whiskey and Charcuterie
Like good whiskey, cheese and cured meats are aged to perfection. The spicy jalapeño flavor in Bird Dog Jalapeño Honey brings out smokey/peppery notes in the meat, while the sweet honey flavor pairs well with soft cheeses like brie and goat cheese.

Yes, peanut butter and a burger. Its a combination that shouldnt work, but does. Because actually, the rich, salty flavor of PB compliments crispy, savory bacon and smokey, grilled ground beef.
Bird Dog Praline Whiskey and Pecan Pie
Finish your flavor journey with this sweet combo essentially a deconstructed pecan praline. To our fellow Southerners, we dont need to explain why this works, but for those who havent tried pecan pralines, give this a go. The sweet, nutty flavors of each provide a satisfying end to any meal.
Like we said, opportunities with Bird Dog Flavored Whiskey are endless . And as always, we love to see Bird Dog done your way tag in your photos on social media to share the love.

Maintain Better Blood Flow
Another major health benefit of consuming whiskey regularly is that it improves blood flow in your body. Drinking or consumption of alcohol causes our blood to become less thick. Due to this reason, our heart can pump blood at a faster rate.
Regular consumers of Jameson whiskey are also less likely to have a heart attack or stroke. As this Jameson whiskey improves blood flow, this also results in the heart having to pump faster and more efficiently. This pumping of the blood keeps our heart fit and healthy.

Add a splash of simple syrup to make it a bit sweeter, then top it off with club soda.
To prevent this from getting watery, youll freeze cubes of lemonade that add a zippy sour kick.
Age Bad Tasting Whiskey To Give It More Flavors
A whiskey acquires 80% of its flavor during the aging / maturation process. This is when whiskey is stored in barrels for years or even decades so that changes in temperature and humidity will cause the whiskey to seep into the wood of the barrel and then back out again picking up all sorts of chemicals in the process . The more this occurs the more the wood of the barrel transmits different and intricate flavors to the whiskey.
At the same time the chemicals remove some of the unpleasant sulphury notes and some of the lighter and more volatile compounds evaporate through the barrel walls. The upshot of all this is that some of the whiskeys harshness is removed making it smoother, while plenty of flavor is added giving it much of its well flavor.
Since whiskey is not something that just has a flavor because of what it is, but is given a flavor because of how its made, you can make bad whiskey taste good with a similar process.
There are two ways of replicating the commercial aging / maturation process yourself.
The first is by adding oak wood sticks to your whiskey. When the temperature rises the wood expands and the whiskey is absorbed into the wood and when the temperature falls the wood contracts and the whiskey is expelled. Just like barrel aging, the flavors in the wood are transmitted to the whiskey.
Try using Oak Infusion Spirals which you can find on Amazon here.
I have written a more detailed guide about aging whiskey, here.
