What Is The Best Thing To Mix With Gin

When Making Gin Cocktails Complement And Contrast

Best Gin drinks I’ve ever had | How to Drink

The possibilities with gin cocktails are endless. For example, if you go with St. George Terroir gin with its herbaceous Douglas fir and coastal sage botanicals or Oakland Spirits Sea-Gin, you will want to show off those briny or green notes appropriately. While some bartenders might mix like with like , Rivers encourages complementing and contrasting. A citrus-forward gin doesnt need more citrus, so think about what would highlight the citrus and compliment it? The same goes if a gin is floral. Everybody loves to mix patterns in clothes. Why not in drinks?

The cocktail menu at Whitechapel is extensive with drinks like the Narc Angel painting on the canvas of a more classic London dry profilein this case, Fords gin, which plays nicely with maraschino liqueur, orange curaçao, the bitter-sweet of Campari and bright tones of ginger, mint and lemon.

Tanqueray And The Perfect Gin & Tonic

Do you struggle with buying a Fathers Day present and end up getting a bottle of his favourite tipple? Whether your dad is a whisky fan or prefers the perfect gin & tonic Alexander & James have a wonderful collection of gift sets based on premium drinks brands. So, for example, you can choose from Talisker Whisky, Ketel and Ciroc Vodka and Tanqueray Gin, for example, each with complementing glasses or cocktail equipment. It makes something quite simple that you know will work into a special gift which will delight your Dad. And, theres a Fathers Day special of personalised engraving on some of the bottles right now.

I was sent the Alexander & James Tanqueray No. 10 gift set, which includes two special gin coupes and a litre bottle of gin. Everything arrived beautifully packaged so that it can be gifted easily. And, the glasses are the perfect way to serve a Gin & Tonic.

Tanqueray is one of my favourite gins. Each brand of gin has its own distinct botanicals The original Tanqueray gin was launched in 1830 its key botanicals are juniper, coriander, angelica root and liquorice. In fact, the four times distilled Tanqueray No. 10 is the perfect gin to make a martini so that is next on my list to try. For now, Im keeping things simple, especially since I have two beautiful green stemmed coupe glasses which came as part of the Alexander & James gift set.

Heres how to do it.

  • Pour over the tonic and mix gently

  • Zest some lime into the glass and garnish with a slice of lime

While there are plenty of liquors you can pick up knowing they’re super versatile and likely to work with almost anything that’s in the fridge and yes, we’re looking at you, vodka gin generally isn’t one of those. There’s a gin and tonic, and … what else?

Admittedly, gin can be tough. It has a distinctive flavor profile that can be described as anything from “botanical” to “Christmas tree,” and everything in between those two. Gin, says MasterClass, is defined in part by the use of juniper berries in the distillation process, and it’s those berries that give this popular liquor that pine-tree, evergreen taste.

For those who might skip the gin because they’re not fans of a gin and tonic, we have good news: There are a ton of other drinks you can use as a base for some truly incredible gin cocktails. Some probably have a permanent spot in the fridge already, and if some are the sort of thing you pick up on occasion, let’s be honest: These ideas are reason enough to spring for that nice bottle of gin.

What Types Of Gin Mix Well With Ginger Ale

Ginger ale is, to say the least, a drink for the acquired taste. Nowadays, there are many sorts of ginger ale on the market. Some are sweeter and more sugary, while others will be crisp and sharp.

Then, theres also the difference between ginger ale and ginger beer. The difference is actually quite simple. Ginger beer is way sharper, whereas ginger ale is a little smoother and sweeter. Ginger ale is more approachable, where ginger beer is a purer, denser version of it.

In either case, ginger ale will always be dominant in a drink, simply because of the sharpness that the ginger gives it. This is also the reason why I initially called it a drink for the acquired taste.

This sharpness, however, is also what makes ginger ale such a fantastic drink. With its sharp, fresh, and sweet taste, ginger ale makes for a fantastic drink, either on its own or as a mixer.

Ginger ale is quite a strong drink, so not every type of gin will be as great with it. With that being said, what types of gin actually mix well with ginger ale?

Ginger ale can be quite strong and sharp, so if you want to mix it with gin, make sure you use a gin that also has a sharp taste. The gin needs to be able to hold its own against the ginger ale, otherwise, you would not be able to taste it.

Another type of gin that goes well with ginger ale would of course be a ginger-infused gin. The ginger-infused gin will perfectly complement the taste of the ginger ale, making for a great combination.

A simple way to elevate the classic Gin and Tonic is to simply add a few strawberries, black pepper, premium soda water, and Tanqueray gin. This Strawberry Black Pepper Gin & Tonic is a fruity twist on the classic drink and features a sweet, peppery combo that adds an extra dimension of flavor to the pretty pink drink. Paired with a crisp, dry gin youll be able to taste floral notes and enjoy a spicy, citrus finish.

How To Make A Gin Rickey:

    • Add lime juice to a highball or collins glass .
    • Pour in Gin.
    • Fill the glass with club soda and garnish with lime.
    • Give it a quick stir and serve immediately.

Quick and easy cocktails are the best for entertaining guests and even better for a quiet evening at home. No need to go out for a simple and delicious cocktail when you can mix one up and cozy up on the couch with a good book or your current Netflix obsession. A Gin Rickey is just the ticket.

Rickey cocktails can also be made with bourbon but the pairing of the gin and the lime is my favorite. These cocktails have been around since the 1800s and became popular in the political crowd in Washington, but dont let that stop you from trying it!

Jawbox Small Batch Classic Dry Gin

Jawbox is an Irish distillery that combines 11 different botanicals to create a truly amazing gin. This gin is definitely on the herbal side, but theres also a strong influence of citruses and juniper.

Jawbox Small Batch Classic Dry Gin uses these 11 botanicals:

All the botanicals come together to create a gin with a bold, crisp, and piney nose. Added to this is a clean scent of citrus and coriander, perfectly introducing you to the crisp taste.

As for taste, this gin has a classic base of bold juniper berries but also has a citrusy flavor in the opening. This then develops into a peppery and green aftertaste.

The peppery and green aftertaste is what makes this gin work so well with ginger ale. The pepper, as well as the bold and green taste perfectly contrasts with the sweet and spicy taste of ginger ale.

    Gin And Grapefruit Juice

Grapefruits acidity and slight bitterness means it pairs especially well with any gin that has grapefruit among its botanical notes. It lends gin a tart sweetness that lets gins own citrus notes shine. If youre keen to sample this gin mixer but youre worried about the tartness, try salting the rim of your glass. The salt helps to tone down the grapefruits inherent bitterness.

Looking to get even more creative? Try red grapefruit juice, which is made with the ripest Spanish pink grapefruits and used to make a Paloma cocktail.

Changing Up The Recipe To Make More Delicious Drinks

A really lovely little tip I have for this drink if you want to make it sweeter is add some raspberry liqueur or fresh raspberry juice to the bottom of the glass with the blueberries. It really brings out an extra flavour and compliments the blueberries really well.

The lime helps to make both flavours blend but also stand on their own. Other options for flavours that work include strawberries with a dash of Aperol. Fresh pomegranate seeds with a little pomegranate juice is fresh and fruity.

A great summer alternative is also to add fresh watermelon chunks and juice. It works really well for a summer G& T.

Even before topping up with tonic the drink looks gorgeous. The bright white ice cubes mixed in with the squashed blueberries and mint glisten in the sunshine. Almost like its reaching out for the tonic to make it hole.

If you want to make these for a party you can make up a big batch of squashed up blueberries and mint add it to each glass. When youre ready to serve add ice cubes and then top up with tonic.

Whats The Best Tonic To Use For Gin And Tonics

I prefer the tonic water sold in the smaller, single-serving bottles. The tonic will be fresh and you wont lose any fizz. A lot of people swear by Schweppes, but we cant say we have noticed a difference enough to specify on that one. We particularly enjoy the Fever Tree and Q tonics.

For a lower calorie cocktail, you can use light tonic. Light tonic doesnt have as much flavor as regular, but it does help to lower the calories. You can also water regular tonic down with a little seltzer water or club soda.

Tips For Choosing A New Gin Mixer

    The Mix

Whichever mixer you choose, it is always best to make sure that you serve the drink ice cold. At room temperature, many of the mixers and the flavours they possess will lack impact and could be actively off-putting, whereas the difference made by being a few degrees chillier will be tangible.

Another thing to keep in mind is that different gins work well with different mixers, as touched upon briefly above. If a gin has been carefully crafted with a bevy of exotic botanicals, choosing a less domineering mixer is ultimately the right choice. If a gin is more basic, you can stretch yourself and test the waters with more outlandish mixers without putting anything on the line.

As youll see, there are a variety of different styles to choose from. Some mixers have powerful flavours that mostly hide the subtleties of the gin that youre using. Other mixers have more nuanced flavours, giving you the chance to experience more of the gin.

For that matter, using expensive gin or craft gin with a strong mixer is just a waste, as the nuances of the gin will be lost. If the gin is expensive or complex, try a mild mixer.

Dont forget that you can also utilise ingredients like honey, jam and marmalade in your cocktail recipes, adding another layer of expertise to your drinks.

Is It Safe To Drink Tonic Water Every Day

My 4 Favorite Gin Cocktails – These Will Turn Gin Haters Into Lovers ??

It is generally harmless for most people to drink tonic water daily in moderation. Quinine is the ingredient in tonic water that is responsible for its semi-bitter and dry taste. The alkaloid is derived from cinchona bark and can lead to quinine toxicity in high doses. This is most often a concern in medication form or for people with certain medical conditions, and it can interact with some medications. To ensure the tonic water sold in the U.S. is safe, the FDA limits how much quinine can be present in tonic water.

    Gin And Watermelon Juice

Melons have a high concentration of water so when juiced make a great gin mixer when theyre fresh from the farmers market.

You can use a variety of juiced melons for gin cocktail hour, each will impart a different flavour and colour to your drink. Watermelon is pink, cantaloupe is orange, honeydew is light green.

Since melons are so large and yield so much juice, we love to make melon gin mixers for a crowd at a summer barbecue or hot day on the dock at the cottage.

    Belvoir Fruit Farms Elderflower Press

Although St-Germain tastes great with everything , gin and the French liqueur have a special relationship. Together, the spirits silky flavors combine to create cocktails that smell and taste like a heady, garden bouquet in a glass. A Highball with gin and elderflower soda evokes the same flavors, with the added benefit of some spritz. Belvoir Farms Elderflower Pressé is essentially a carbonated, flavored seltzer infused with fresh elderflower and lemon juice. Vivaciously bubbly, this two-ingredient spritz is as easy to concoct as it is thirst quenching. And it is very thirst quenching.
