Is Fireball A Whiskey Or A Liqueur
Though many drinkers call Fireball “cinnamon whiskey,” it is, in fact, a “cinnamon whiskey liqueur.” That last word is key because, just like many other flavored whiskeys, as soon as sweeteners are added they are no longer technically whiskeys, but become liqueurs.
Interestingly, Fireball does not really live up to its “Tastes like heaven, burns like hell” slogan. It has neither the alcohol burn of a full-proof whiskey nor the cinnamon burn of palate shockers like Hot Damn, and it does not have not the delicious cinnamon flavor found in Goldschläger. It is a 66 proof sweetened cinnamon-flavored whiskey, with the cinnamon taking on the flavor of Atomic Fireball candy, not a cinnamon stick.
Fireball is extremely popular, though. Its trendiness as a party shotoften straight out of the bottleis almost following that of Jägermeister not too long ago.
What Does Fireball Taste Like
Fireball is very sweet, with a strong finish of cinnamon candy and spicy whiskey. It tastes like liquid Fireball candies. Its pretty strong, and tastes best when mixed into drinks .
How much alcohol is in Fireball? It is 33% ABV , which is similar to other flavored whiskeys or liqueurs.
Are there any substitutes? Try any other type of cinnamon whiskey, like Jack Daniels Fire American Whiskey, Jim Beam Kentucky Fire Bourbon Whiskey, or Cinerator Whiskey.

When You Drink Fireball Every Day This Is What Happens To Your Body
Fireball is a cinnamon whiskey known for its sweet and spicy kick, and the company gives you a glimpse of what you’re getting yourself into with its product by saying, “…imagine what it feels like to stand face-to-face with a fire-breathing dragon who just ate a whiskey barrel full of spicy cinnamon.” Considered by some a little easier on the palate, this spicy alcohol still has its own definite kick. At 33 percent alcohol, this fun beverage seems to pack just the right amount of punch to lighten the mood but isn’t so strong you’ll be headed for home early. But as always, if you consume, you should understand how this recreational beverage can affect your health.

Fireball is also made with propylene glycol, a common ingredient in some antifreeze. It is a disturbing fact, so disturbing, that Norway, Sweden and Finland have just remembered about alcohol. For the same reason, it is also an important component of some antifreeze, i.e. an environmentally friendly antifreeze.

What Is Cinnamon Whiskey
Cinnamon whiskey has been on my list to re-make for a while. I made it a number of years ago to go in my apple cider bourbon jello shots, and Ive made it a few times since.
But this time we wanted it to be a bit more spicy like Fireball brand whiskey. The kind that brings the heat when it hits your throat!
The store-bought stuff is made with Canadian whisky, cinnamon flavoring, and sweeteners. But frankly, we can do better at home.
Since Canadian whisky is a rye whiskey, we can skip needing the sweeteners by using bourbon in our homemade Fireball.
The trick to the fiery cinnamon heat? Using more cinnamon sticks and letting it infuse for longer.
If you let the infusion set for a couple of days, youll get a gentle cinnamon flavor that is really lovely. But if you let it sit for a couple of weeks, the cinnamon flavor can get really strong.
Fire whiskey strong.

Fireball Was A Late Bloomer
Fireballs been around since 1984, but America only fell in love with it in the late 2000s. Part of the delay in popularity might have to do with the fact that it was only available in Canada until 2001 with the less-than-sexy name Dr. McGillicudys Fireball Whisky. But Sazerac bought it, gave it a makeover, and most impressively took to the streets to market the stuff face-to-face grassroots style. Soon enough, America fell head over heels.
Why Does Fireball Give Me Diarrhea
When alcohol is present, the large intestine does not function as well. This can result in liquid stools and dehydration. Faster digestion: Alcohol agitates the intestines and causes them to react by speeding up digestion. The muscles in the colon contract more frequently, pushing stool out faster than usual.

Drinking Fireball Every Day Is Bad For Your Health
Theres a reason alcohol vendors caution you to drink responsibly. Extended use or overconsumption of alcohol is bad for your health, and Fireball is no exception to this rule. Healthline lists the cumulative effects of alcohol on your body to include: shrinking brain, blackouts, hallucinations, cancer, lung infections, liver problems, fatigue, stomach distress, diarrhea, infertility, sexual dysfunction, diabetes, and more. While its true that enjoying a simple few shots of Fireball wont cause this level of illness, even mild consumption can still have its effects.
GQ explains the problem with sugary shots: less alcohol, more sugar. And in this case of cinnamon whiskey, that means more weight gain and less buzz. At 33 percent alcohol, Fireball is actually less potent than a traditional whiskey, but still has loads of the sugar that makes it tastes so good. High sugar alcohol is also associated with increasing hangover symptoms. While there is some debate on whether the sugar itself makes you feel bad, or whether it masks the taste of alcohol to let you drink more, theres a pretty universal consensus that the next morning is gonna be rough.
Instead, treat your Fireball like a bar of delicious chocolate or a slice of cake. Avoid excess to keep harsh and unpleasant health effects at bay, and savor it once in a while instead.

Fireballs Inspired A Bunch Of Imposters
While the brand might have haters galore, it also inspired a bunch of copycats. Not only did Fireball sue the small brand Stout Brewing Company for creating an almost laughable carbon copy of their liquor , they also sued whiskey giantJack Daniels in the same year. Jack Daniels and Jim Beam both created cinnamon-flavored whiskeys after seeing Fireballs success, but Fireballs beef with Jack came from its use of the word fireball in its Google advertisements. Looks like 2015 was a busy year for Fireball in court.
Its Not Technically Whiskey
Whiskey is defined as a spirit thats at least 40 percent alcohol by volume. Clocking in at a lower 33 percent ABV, Fireball is more of a flavored whiskey, or, to get technical, a specialty distilled spirit. This is also why Fireball shots are just so easy to knock back. Some mornings, we might even say too easy.

Why Is Fireball Bad For You
Fireball was recalled due to concerns it contained an ingredient used in anti-freeze. Otherwise known as propylene glycol, otherwise known as part of the mixture used to de-ice airplanes. In 2014 Fireball was recalled in European countries because propylene glycol levels were deemed too high for those markets.
Sip It In A New Old Fashioned
Before you wince at the thought of a Fireball Old Fashioned, hear us out. Fireball is a boundary-pushing whisky that requires an equally boundary-pushing Old Fashioned recipe. An orange peel and sugar cube wont stand up to Fireballs full-throttle cinnamon flavor. So instead, opt for three parts orange juice, three parts Fireball, and one part maple syrup . The end result is nowhere near as delicate or petite as your typical Old Fashioned, but its surprisingly balanced and very sippable.

It Used To Contain A Chemical Used In Anti
A fact so unsettling to Europeans that sales of the sickly sweet booze were temporarily halted in Norway, Sweden, and Finland, which Fireball says was due to a small recipe-related compliance issue. The chemical coming under fire is propylene glycol, which supposedly enhances flavor by absorbing water. Its a slightly less toxic compound than ethylene glycol, which wasuntil recentlymost often used in anti-freeze. According to the FDA, propylene glycol is generally recognized as safe when used in food at levels not to exceed current good manufacturing practice, but nonetheless, Fireball removed the chemical from its recipe.

You Can Thank Canada For Fireball
Insofar as Fireball mythology exists, at least one origin story points to a Canadian bartender trying to warm up on one of those typical frigid Canadian nights. Apparently, booze alone wouldnt suffice, so this mystery bartender added cinnamon and sugar. Regardless of whether or not this story is true, we still owe those Canadians some kudos, since Fireball is made with Canadian whisky.
