This instruction set includes instructions for making rum, a link for making a reflux still of your own, and a link for dilution of the final product. Rum has been in production since the 17th century in the Caribbean, where the majority of rum production still takes place. It was traditionally made from sugarcane juice, but now is usually made from molasses or brown sugar.

What Is The History Of The Painkiller
The true original recipe isnt truly known as Daphne Henderson didnt share her exact proportions. One of her good friends and fellow bartenders decided that he had a version that was close enough. After winning a taste contest versus Daphne, he took his recipe on the road to try to earn some money from his new found fame.
He soon sold his recipe to Pussers Rum who soon trademarked the recipe. They did gave Daphnie Henderson the credit while letting the rest of us know a recipe!
- Orange Juice
For our version of the Painkiller cocktail recipe, the Coconut Rum Painkiller, we decided to embrace one of the tiki techniques. We layer two different types of rum into a single cocktail. Mixing two different types of rum gives a cocktail a more complex flavor and uses the different rums to bring the best of each style to the drink.
In the case of our Coconut Rum Painkiller, we combined the rich caramel flavors of a dark rum with an equal part coconut rum. AKA why this is the Coconut Rum Painkiller! This brings a tropical warmth to the cocktail.

Rum and lemonade is so laid-back, you can make it several different ways. Its great for entertaining with a big pitcher, but most often we make it as a glass. As we mentioned up top, its loads tastier with homemade lemonade.
- Make the homemade lemonade. Make a big pitcher, or a single serving of homemade lemonade! Go to that post and search for the by the glass variation.

- For the glass, use ¾ cup lemonade and ¼ cup gin.
What To Mix With Coconut Rum
If youre anything like me, you dream of mesmerizing remote islands full of white sand beaches and swaying palms under an impossibly blue sky. And what might I ask goes hand in hand with this alluring and seemingly far-off image that only comes to life in the back of your head? Well, rum and coconuts, of course. Since the dawn of time coconut rum has almost always been associated with a manner that is both tropical and refreshing and, while quite delicious alone with a few cubes of ice and a playful umbrella for pageantry, there are a host of cocktails that will blow both your mind and taste buds into orbit. - You can also adjust the level of sweetness by paying attention to how much grenadine youre adding. Start with a little bit and keep adding little by little until its perfect for you.
- Dont stir the drink after you pour in the grenadine if youd like to have two-tone colors.

This drink is already sweet from the pineapple juice. I find 7-up to be less sweet than Sprite, so I prefer 7-up for this cocktail.

What Rum Should You Use In A Pineapple Rum Punch
First of all, as with the coconut, this is a flexible drink and generally the rum you have in the house is going to make a tasty cocktail.
However, for the best version of the punch, I like to use a golden rum. Golden rum has more character and more flavor than white rum, but not so much that it will overpower the rest of the flavors and take over. Alternatively a mix of white and dark rum can be very nice, with a little of the dark rum to add flavor and depth.
No matter what, dont use an expensive rum in a fruity cocktail. You wont be tasting all those subtle flavors!
How Do You Make A Hot Toddy With Rum
Ask for a Hot Toddy today, and youre likely to get a warm drink with whiskey, lemon, and spices. But if you ordered one in the earliest days of American history, that drink would have likely come with rum.
The Hot Toddy originated in British-controlled India. The Hindi word taddy meant beverage made from fermented palm sap. Brits claimed the drink by 1786, when taddy was officially written down and defined as a beverage made of alcoholic liquor with hot water, sugar, and spices.
Note how the early Hot Toddies never specified which type of alcohol should be used. In America, rum from the Caribbean was one of the most popular and prevalent spirits until around 1800. Those early Americans did just fine without warm whiskey in their mugs the classic Hot Toddy ingredients are just as good a match for rum as for whiskey.
So if you want to drink the original American Hot Toddy, reach for the rum. The best part is, you can use any Hot Toddy recipe. Spiced rum from brands like Sailor Jerry, Don Q, and Sugar Island blends nicely with traditional Hot Toddy ingredients like lemon, cinnamon, and cloves. Aged rum adds a slightly oaky quality, while white rum increases sweetness without adding any competing flavors.
Kenneth McCoy, the chief creative officer of Public House Collective, which owns The Rum House, tells me that, above all else, be creative.
Its also important to strain the drink until its clear before adding hot water and garnishing.

While I often play the traditionalist with my Piña Coladas, more often than not I’ll reach for a bottle of Jamaican white overproof like Rum Fire, and turn it up to 11, says Zakai Arnowitz, a bartender from San Anselmo, CA. That Hampden Estate juice is full of so much tropical hogo, and it really complements and shines alongside all that pineapple and coconut.

What Flavors Did We Use
Of course a true Tiki drink like the Coconut Rum Painkiller needs another tropical flavor to support it. We wanted to stay true to the original Painkiller cocktail recipe we turned to fresh pineapple juice. Pineapple juice gives this cocktail a nice tangy flavor while adding a bit of sweetness and a bit of golden color to the drink.

Dont Have/cant Find Coconut Liqueur
Coconut rum is fine substitute. I have used a mix of unflavored rum and coconut rum with good results.
Also, you can move a bit in the pina colada direction and switch to cream of coconut. I made jugs of rum punch down in Bonaire using cream of coconut since thats what I had and everyone loved the drinks.
The important parts of the drink are that you balance the sweet and the tart, have a noticeable coconut flavor, and add enough rum to give it a good kick. Oh, and have fun too! That should be the first thing.

Make The Bahama Mama Drink Frozen
Why do we prefer the Bahama Mama drink frozen and blended, instead of on the rocks? Heres what we think:
- The icy texture makes it that much more fun to sip. The beachy vibe of a Bahama Mama pairs perfectly with a blender drink.
- Its easier to drink slower than a drink served up on the rocks. A tropical drink served on the rocks always gone too fast!
- Its easy to make 4 drinks at once. Blend up a big frozen pitcher of a Bahama Mamas for a crowd!

Can You Make A White Russian With Rum
Of course you can! I know that a lot of cocktail recipes typically call for a specific liquor. But truly most can be interchangeable.
You can make a White Russian without vodka. Just use white rum, or you can take it up a notch like I did and use coconut rum. Spiced rum would even work.
Plus, instead of milk Im using coconut milk. And its so tasty and dairy-free! Kahlua and coconut milk together is a match made in heaven.

The Proper Glass For A Frozen Daiquiri:
Surprise! There really isnt one glass associated with a frozen daiquiri. We have seen them made in martini, pina colada and margarita glasses most often.
We chose 12 oz. Margarita glasses and the size is PERFECT. You will get two completely filled margarita glasses.
However, any tall tom collins, cocktail, pina colada or martini glass of the same size will also work for this recipe.
The coconut rum with the lime and strawberries is a wonderful flavor balance your mouth is gonna love.
This gorgeous summer drink is very light in calories and alcohol and big on refreshing fruity flavor.

Types Of Rum To Use In This Drink
When it comes to rum, there are several types or categories. Here are the major types wed recommend using in rum and lemonade:
- Aged rum has great depth in flavor. Its known as golden rum or añejo rum. The aging gives it notes of vanilla, coconut, almond, citrus, or caramel.
- White rum also works! Light rum has a straightforward flavor rum with the signature fruity finish.
- Dark rum adds deeper notes. Dark rum is aged as well and has a deep, caramel flavor and sometimes notes of cinnamon and spices.
