Is Tequila Gluten Free

Living gluten-free in Japan

Yes, if the tequila is made the natural way using blue agave, it is gluten free.

However, if the tequila is sold or marketed as mix, then these variations will sometimes include gluten.

As a result, thats why its so important to opt for a tequila that has bee made with 100% agave and thats it.

And dont worry, the age or color of the tequila will not affect whether of not it contains gluten.

Where Is Bombay Sapphire Gin Distilled

The UK has for a long time been the home of premier gins. Bombay Sapphire Gin is no exception. This high-quality gin is distilled in the English countryside in the county of Hampshire. The distillation process takes place from start to finish in an old paper mill near the ancient English city of Winchester.

Winchester is perhaps better known as the home of King Arthurs Round Table but is now also known as the home of Bombay Sapphire Gin. A visit to the distillery is worth your while if you are in the area. Tickets to guided tours are easy to book online.

Not only can you tour the distillery. You can also take part in classes where you can learn how to make cocktails. Tasting sessions are available throughout the year.

How Gin Is Made

Brands like Bombay Sapphire proudly display extensive lists of botanical ingredients on their bottles, but they make no mention of whether or not they use gluten in their base alcohol.

As it happens, they dont have to.

In most countries, alcohol products like gin dont legally need to list the ingredients used in their production. Instead, they simply have to follow standardised rules which relate to its production process, rather than the ingredients.

In the case of gin, the only stipulation when naming a product as gin is that it must be distilled alcohol, no less than 40%, and derives its predominant flavour from juniper berries.

This is in stark contrast to food products, which must legally display potential allergens. As so, alcohol is certainly a grey area for coeliacs.

For a New Classic: Cranberry Pine Twist

Why I Love It: Who doesnt love a gin and tonic at Christmas? Its one of the nations favourite drinks for good reason. The cocktail is just so delicious and drinkable, and I love with festive twist on the classic with the additional of a pine spring and some fresh cranberries. It takes a few minutes to make, but the touch of pine really adds a fancy, festive feel to the drink to impress guests.

The Idea: For me, no gin and tonic is complete without some delicious nibbles to enjoy alongside. Try making your own festive honey-roasted nuts to accompany the drink by baking a mixture of almonds, hazelnuts and peanuts in the oven with unsalted butter, runny honey, smoked paprika and sea salt.

Sipsmith: Best For Gin & Tonic

With a combination of ten botanicals and a bold and complex taste, Sipsmith is a classic near-perfect gin. Its a brand that somehow manages to remain a classic while still pioneering the craft gin movement. Sipsmith uses a single shot method of distillation, meaning that its only diluted with water, not an additional neutral spirit, and was the first to reintroduce copper stills after almost two centuries.

Its a distillery thats far younger than its classical branding would suggest. Launching in 2009, Sipsmith has already helped to pave the way for an uncompromising good gin thats rich, smooth and balanced.

On the nose it smells fairly similar to many other gins, but tasting it is where this spirit comes alive. While juniper is the main body of force, there are also hints of oranges and lemons, cassia ,coriander and gentle pepperiness. Mix with your favourite tonic to bring out the flavours.

GLUTEN FREE CONFIDENCE SCORE: 3/10

The controversy of whether or not gin is gluten-free still goes on. Bombay Sapphire contains Juniper Berries/Juniper flavoring along with various grains and botanicals, which includes a grain made out of gluten . As with other alcoholic beverages, the gluten protein is removed during the distillation process, so in some circles its considered technically gluten-free.

Whats a gluten-free Bombay Sapphire fan to do? It honestly depends on your sensitivity. There are some gluten-free folks who have no problems consuming this brand, but others do have reactions. We strongly recommend you use caution when consuming this gin if you are on a gluten-free diet, and consider drinking another gluten-free beverage instead. Please read the ingredient and nutrition label carefully. Need help in understanding what to look for on those labels? We have a guide – check it out!

A Brief History Of Bombay Sapphire

The brand name first launched in 1986, but the current recipe dates back to an original recipe from 1761, and they use their original stills from the 1830s. In the mid-199os the brand sold to the Bacardi family.

The alcohol is evaporated three times, with the vapor passing through each of the botanicals suspended in perforated copper baskets to gain its distinct flavor. It has a distinct gin flavor, but the infusion process keeps it more mellow not to overwhelm you with taste.

Why Do People React To Gin

As we discussed above, distilled liquorincluding ginis considered by many experts to be gluten-free. But despite this, many people with celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity still report reactions to distilled spirits made from gluten grains.

So why the disconnect between expert opinion and actual “on the ground” experience? That’s not clear, but there are several possible reasons.

First, distillation may not remove every last bit of gluten, even if it removes enough so that the product meets the standard of less than 20 parts per million. Distillation typically is repeated multiple times to remove “impurities” from the final product, but it’s possible that in some cases, it doesn’t remove all those “impurities.”

Second, it’s possible that smaller fragments of the gluten protein could remain in the final product, even after distillation. Gluten is a large molecule that can be broken down into smaller molecules, but there isn’t much research to show whether people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity might react to those smaller pieces of gluten.

Third, gin and other spirits made from gluten grains unquestionably are made in facilities and on equipment that process gluten grains. So it’s entirely possible that some gluten cross-contamination creeps in after distillation, as the flavorings typically used in gin are added.

Nolets Reserve: The Most Expensive Gin

BOMBAY GIN LITER

Everything about Nolets Reserve gin is superior. The entire goal of the distillery is to create the very best, from the exclusive high quality, invaluable ingredients, to the tiny production and minuscule allocation.

This modern gin is distilled at a higher ABV than usual, too, at 52.3% compared to a standard of between 40-48%. Despite the number, its an easy-to-drink gin thats smooth and round throughout. Its high price point comes mostly from its use of saffron, which is more expensive per ounce than gold and isnt used sparingly in Nolets distillation process.

The saffron also gives Nolets Reserve its slightly tinted amber colouring and warm, deep spice flavour. Unsurprisingly, its a gin with plenty of depth, balancing bitter notes like verbena with florals like Turkish rose and lavender.

Only a few hundred bottles of Nolets are produced each year, overseen by master distiller Carolus Nolet Sr. Each bottle is also personally numbered and signed by the master distiller before its sold. Its a wonderful, complex gin created to be sipped.

Is Gin & Tonic Vegan And Gluten Free

I dont know about you, but, in these troubling times, I find comfort in the minutiae of life. Theres nothing like disappearing down a rabbit hole of information to escape reality.

At the moment, my mind is often preoccupied with thinking about new recipes for The Allergy Brothers Cakes. I am wondering if it is possible to make a vegan and gluten free gin and tonic cake Not for the Allergy Brothers themselves, they are a bit young! Maybe for all the parents contemplating the school summer holidays? The obvious first question is is gin and tonic vegan and gluten free?

Gin is, according to the Oxford Dictionary, a clear alcoholic spirit distilled from grain or malt and flavoured with juniper berries. Grain and malt doesnt sound very gluten free. However, as the gluten proteins are removed during the distillation process, all spirits, unless a gluten-containing ingredient is added after distillation, are gluten free. However, some very, very sensitive individuals might react to gin distilled from grain and malt. In the UK, Chases gin is made from an apple base, and not grain. However, gin is gluten free enough to get a thumbs up from the Coeliac UK website so I feel confident with sticking with my old favourite, Bombay Sapphire.

Phew! Gin and tonic is vegan and gluten free! I think I might have a glass to celebrate. Purely, for research, of course.

What Does Bombay Sapphire Taste Like

Bombay Sapphire opens with a touch of juniper, ripe citrus, and hints of spice in the fragrance. The palate is exceptionally smooth and allows the botanicals to open up one by one and mix in the most lovely way with juniper slightly at the forefront. The finish is bolder but retains the spirits brightness.

Does Gin Contain Gluten

Gin is usually made from distilled barley, wheat, or rye. Although gluten is naturally found in these ingredients, most gin is gluten-free.

The Coeliac Disease Foundation has said that there are no gluten peptides in distilled alcohol.

What Botanicals Will I Find In Bombay Sapphire Gin

Bombay Sapphire was a bit of a sensation when it first hit UKs drinks market. In a very crowded marketplace, the botanicals stand out and are what makes this gin special.

If you are a gin lover, you will pick up lemon peel, liquorice, orris root, cassia, cubeb, almond, juniper berries, angelica, and coriander. You will also notice a touch of grains of paradise which is a much sought after African spice. It is this unique range of botanicals that have turned Bombay Sapphire into a worldwide taste sensation.

The base spirit of Bombay Sapphire is juniper berries. When the gin was first launched in 1986, many gin lovers were confused about the base spirit. With so many other exciting botanicals added in, the base spirit was hard to distinguish. But, when you let the gin linger for a moment, you will pick up notes of juniper berries.
