What To Mix With Kahlua

Kahlua is the classic coffee liquor. It has a coffee flavor and a smooth texture and makes a nice addition to hot coffee, like this traditional Irish Coffee. Kahlua can be enjoyed alone over ice or with a dash of milk. It is also the second ingredient in the classic 2 ingredient white russian. A bottle of Kahlua will last a while in your liquor cabinet, keep it on hand and use a shot here and there to spice up your drinks.

The second ingredient in this simple drink is peppermint vodka. Vodka is a clear and often flavorless drink that can be used as a base for so many cocktails. You can also find a wide variety of flavored vodkas which help elevate your cocktails without adding heavy juices or syrups.

A seasonal favorite, this pretty bottle pf peppermint vodka will mix well in creamy dessert drinks like this white hot chocolate. You can also use it to make a festive peppermint martini.

Take a look at these 5 simple vodka cocktails you can make at home.

Most sources believe the original version originated in Germany . Its often drunk in the US in the winter, and features in many holiday drinks.

Peppermint schnapps is sold by many brands and varies in quality. A popular inexpensive brand is DeKupyer, but you can find a higher quality version of this spirit with Rumple Minze or Dr. McGillicuddys Mint Schnapps.

How To Make Festive Layered Jello Shots

These creamy candy cane shots take a while to make because the jello layers have to set. Mix gelatin and cold water in a pan and let the jello crystals soak up the liquid. Next you can whisk the mixture and stir in the sweetened condensed milk. Finally mix in the vodka. This is going to be the white layer.

To make the pink layer for your pink peppermint jello shots, mix gelatin, sugar and cold water in another pan. Add sweetened condensed milk and then food colouring and peppermint schnapps. Let both mixtures thicken up a bit at room temperature.

To assemble these jello shots for the holidays, add the pink layer first then freeze it. Next add some of the white mixture and freeze. Repeat the layers, letting the layered jello shots set before adding a new layer.

Garnishing The Creamy Candy Cane Shots

The last step is to garnish the pink peppermint jello shots with whipped cream, crushed candy canes and sprinkles. Although these ingredients are optional they really go well with the Christmas shooter and look pretty.

You can also add a mini candy cane to each one. This both looks cute and also makes it easier to get these jello shots for the holidays out of the glass.

I used a mixture of several types of sprinkles I had on hand, but feel free to mix your own. In addition to the Peppermint Crunch, I used a mix of Candy Cane-Shaped Sprinkles, Pink Sugar Pearls, Red Jimmies, and Pearlescent White Sprinklefetti.

If youre making these ahead, thats fine. Arrange them on a platter or tray then cover them all with plastic wrap. You can refrigerate these peppermint schnapps and whipping cream vodka shots for a day or so. Although they will taste fine after that, the layers will start to merge into one another eventually.

These cute pink peppermint jello shots are festive so you can make them anytime during the holidays. Christmas and New Year are always fun times to make jello shots for the holidays or perhaps you are going to a party over the holidays. If you can think of an excuse to make this Christmas shooter, grab it!

Pro Tips For Making Candy Cane Infused Peppermint Vodka

A few tips before grabbing your Mason jar.

  • The candy canes will dissolve in probably less than an hour. Allow the infusion sit undisturbed for about 4 days to let the flavors to fully develop.
  • Also these beautiful, all natural, organic candy canes lost the gorgeous pink luster when infused leaving a dingy, wash-water hue vodka. I added a few drops of natural pink coloring from India Tree Dyes to perk it up.
  • If you use an artificially colored candy cane you will most likely find its color to remain in the infused vodka.
  • Do not use green and red striped candy canes. They will create a dingy colored vodka.

The steps for making your own peppermint vodka are easy ones!

First, youll throw peppermint candies into a plastic jar or bowl. I prefer glass so that the vodka doesnt break down any plastic. Ceramic works too.

Then youll cover them with vodka and let them sit for a few hours. The vodka will instantly start turning pink if youre using red-and-white colored candies, like this:

After a while, you can strain out any leftover pieces of candy. They might be in one hard clump in the bottom of your jar.

And voila! Peppermint vodka.
