What Tequila Is Better Than Patron

Let’s Talk About Aging Tequila

Is Deleon Tequila better than Patrón Review

The amount of aging and the amount of agave used to make a tequila are what create the different varieties. Each variety has a different type of flavor, aroma, and price point.

These are blanco, reposado, añejo, and extra añejo.

Keep in mind that añejo doesnt mean best, it just means oldest. If you prefer the flavor of blanco, then buy blanco. Extra añejos are often the most expensive tequilas.

When it comes to choosing the best tequila for margaritas, look for one that says 100% de agave or puro de agave. The tequila brands labeled tequila mixto or oro have been cut with an inferior natural cane spirit. Not only will the flavor be less complex, but its probably made with artificial coloring, too. Exploring The Patrn Range: Products And Editions

Patróns best-known bottle is Patrón Silver, a tequila Blanco, coming in at 40% ABV. Its smooth to drink, great for cocktails, crystal clear in colour, with a fruity and citrusy smell, a sweet taste, and a peppery finish.

Patrón Reposado is another approachable and drinkable tequila. Its light amber with a hint of oak, and floral and honey notes.

Patrón Anejo is an amber coloured tequila, aged for twelve months in a combination of French and Hungarian oak and American whiskey barrels. It has a slightly stronger taste with notes of oak, honey, and vanilla, as well as raisin and caramel. Patrón Extra Anejo is aged for three years in oak barrels, and has notes of dried fruits, honey, and vanilla.

Patrón XO is a line of liqueurs that include PatrónXO Cafe, a tequila-based coffee liqueur, great in Martinis or as an ingredient in desserts.

Roca Patrón is one of the brands more premium offerings. The higher price is due to the fact that the agave juice is extracted entirely by the traditional Tahona method.

In 2004, the brand launched The Gran Patrón label, designating the most exclusive bottles in Patróns range.

The brand also has the Patrón Citronge line of fruit liqueurs including Patrón Citronge Orange, Patrón Citronge Lime, and Patrón Citronge Mango.

Of course, theres also the infamously famous Patrón en Lalique series, a bottle of which will set you back at least $7,000.

Percent Blue Weber Agave

When shopping for tequila, look for these words on the bottle. It is easier than ever to find them because almost every tequila brand has realized that this is what drinkers really want.

Blue Weber is known as the most elegant expression of tequila. While tequila falls under the mezcal category, several distillers around the town of Tequila began distilling a superior form of mezcal. They used the whole heart of blue agave, which is indigenous to the region, describes Brian Olson, the founder and owner of Café Intermezzo.

A Buying Guide To Tequilas

The tequilas recommended here are by no means a comprehensive list, but rather suggestions for widely available tequilas across many price points.

Some good buying guidelines are:

  • Avoid anything that is packaged in plastic or that costs less than $15 as these are signs of cheap tequila thatll burn like hellfire down your throat and taste like lighter fluid.
  • Buy only tequila that states 100% agave on the bottle.
  • Its perfectly reasonable to find a smooth, flavorful tequila for $25-$30 thats great for shots, cocktails, or sipping. A high price does not always indicate high quality.
  • If theres a worm or scorpion or, really, any animal in the bottle, then dont buy it. Its a marketing gimmick used to sell cheaply produced tequilas and its almost guaranteed to be dreck.

El Bandido Yankee Tequila

El Bandido Yankee

A new entry into the tequila market, El Bandido Yankee launched in 2021 by former NFL player Jim Bob Morris and restaurateur and NHL Hall of Fame Hockey Player Chris Chelios. The idea: to create an ultra premium, ultra-smooth tequila at an accessible price point. This is an all-around crowd-pleasing tequila, too, with a wonderfully distinct flavor profile thats at once rich and complex. Notes of pepper and vanilla balance the buttery profile along with hints of citrus. The Reposado expression is also aged in stripped and recharred American Oak bourbon barrels, which gives it a deliciously herbaceous toasted flavor.

Though we prefer El Bandido Yankee as a sipping tequila , the flavor has enough bite to make for some beautiful cocktails, too. Everything is made in with 100% blue weber agave and is confirmed all-natural and additive-free for a tequila that goes down smooth and silky. We like what the brand is doing with the no-for-profit S.A.C.R.E.D too, which re-invests 100% of proceeds from merchandise and a portion of tequila sales back into the local Mexican communities where agave spirits are made to identify and support vital needs.

Mixto Tequila Verses 100% Agave Tequila

A tequila can be organized into two categories, mixto tequilas and 100% agave tequilas.

Mixto tequilas are made with no less than 51% agave, with the other 49% usually being fermented sugar cane juice. The result is a tequila thats very sweet in both smell and taste. However, the flavor usually stops there.

These mixto tequilas are often harsh in flavor, burn on the way down, and thus are inferior to other tequilas. Golden-colored mixtos are called joven or oro tequilas and have oak flavoring and coloring added. The reason these are made in the first place is because theyre affordable to make for producers and, frankly, they sell well in stores due to their low price point.

Mixtos arent ideal and I generally dont recommend buying them. But if youre planning a big party with a tequila-based punch that has a lot of juices and flavors to help mask the mixto, then a mixto is a practical option.

If a tequila is labeled as 100% agave, this means that the tequila in question was made with only blue agave. Generally, its recommended by most bartenders and tequila enthusiasts that you only buy tequilas which clearly state this on the label, as it will guarantee you a much better product that has a more complex flavor and significantly less burn.

Tequila is made from the extracted juices of the agave plant. By law, tequila must include at least 51 percent Weber blue agave, and the majority of tequilas exclusively use that variety. Is Patron Or Casamigos Better

Casamigos is a better tequila than Patron Silver for being more tasty while remaining easy to sip. I enjoyed the sweet notes of cooked agave with the subtle notes of mint and vanilla. On the other hand, Patron lacks depth and complexity making it a boring sip.

What is tequila made of? Both tequila and mezcal are made from the harvested core of the agave plant, otherwise known as the piña. However, thats where the similarities in production end. Tequila is typically produced by steaming the agave inside industrial ovens before being distilled two or three times in copper pots.

Where is Casamigos made?

Made in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca, Mexico, Casamigos Mezcal is artisanal and crafted from 100% Espadín agaves.

Does Casamigos have additives? The profile is obviously designed with additives, often concentrated in liquid or powder form to achieve this smoothness and extreme sweetness desired. The Mexican Norma rules allow for 1% by volume, of additives, but this sure tastes so much more manipulated, than 1%.
