What Is Bombay Sapphire Gin Made From

Bombay Sapphire was first released in 1987 but was inspired by a recipe from 1761. Like most gin, it is a neutral grain spirit that is triple distilled and infused with botanicals. How Bombay uses the botanicals is unique. Instead of steeping the flavoring ingredients in the alcohol, the distillery uses a vapor infusion extraction.

The distillery originally employed two Carterhead stills from the 1830s and added two copper pot stills when production increased. Above the distillate, copper baskets hold the proprietary blend of botanicals. As the alcohol heats up and evaporates, the steam hits the botanicals, infusing it with flavor before it condenses back into a liquid that is cut to bottling strength. This approach is designed to give the gin a more delicate flavor.

Bombay was one of the first gin brands to celebrate their botanicals with full disclosure. Though the actual recipe is a well-kept secret entrusted to their “master of botanicals,” Ivano Tonutti, they do reveal what the ingredient list includes. It is an international affair that includes Italian juniper berries and orris root, Spanish almonds and lemon peels, grains of paradise from West Africa, Chinese licorice, cassia bark from Indo-China, angelica from Saxony, Moroccan coriander, and cubeb berries from Java. The botanicals are nicely balanced and add a crispness to the spirit.

In 2014, Bombay Sapphire opened a new distillery just outside of London, England. It is open to the public for tours and events.

Beefeater: Best Budget Gin

The classics are classics for a reason, and Beefeater is known for being just that. This gin distillery dates back to 1863 and its been a staple in bars for almost as long. Beefeater has become the most award-winning gin of the past decade, and its starting price point makes it accessible for gin drinkers worldwide.

Its delicate flavour combination means it is possible to enjoy Beefeater gin neat, although wed recommend mixing into a cocktail. It contains a fragrant mix including angelica root and seeds, juniper, coriander seeds, almonds, liquorice, Seville oranges, lemon peel and orris root, making it an excellent addition to any long drink.

Its a bold and distinct gin thats still produced in London, created using founder James Burroughs original recipe despite the many years that have passed.

Bombay Sapphire In Tuscany

Everyone is familiar with the black rooster label, which has come tosymbolize one of Tuscanys most famous areas and products, the Chianti Classicoand its full-bodied red wine. Not many people, however, would associate theiconic vivid blue bottle of Bombay Sapphire London Gin with the fields ofTuscany, let alone link it to a select few local producers in the ruralcountryside of Arezzo. However, only a short drive into the wilderness nearMichelangelos birthplace, Caprese Michelangelo, TF discovered one of BombaySapphires secrets: their juniper berries are all grown, farmed, harvested andselected right here in Tuscany.

Juniper is just one of the 10 exotic botanicalsdistilled by vapor infusion in Bombay Sapphire. Take a close look at the bottleto see each listed with its country of origin, including coriander fromMorocco, lemon peel and bitter almonds from Spain, angelica root from Germanyand cassia bark from North Vietnam. Tuscany is the source not only of the gins but also its orrisroot, from the iris flower, farmed in the Arnovalley and, at three years, has the longest cultivation period of the 10 ingredients.

The attention then shifted to Tuscany. At 80years old, Alessandro and his wife still harvest juniper berries at theirfamily farm in Arezzo, and they are one of Bombay Sapphires biggest junipersuppliers.

Drinks For Good Weather Blueberry Gin And Tonic Recipe

What is better than a twist on a gin and tonic while relaxing in this glorious weather! Ive been enjoying trying out new G& T combinations with fruit to enjoy this summer.

My favourite so far is this blueberry, mint and lime gin and tonic. It is super quick to make and very delicious, fresh and refreshing. Any super quick delicious cocktails have my vote in time for summer.

One, or a few, of these in the sunshine mixed long evenings with friends is a highlight of the summer for me. Fresh fruit with gin is definitely great to experiment with.

Squash the blueberries with mint leaves and a wedge of lime. Add to the glass and top up with ice cubes. Even without the gin and tonic it already looked so gorgeous! Top up with the tonic and serve.

I really hope you enjoy the gin and tonic. Its a super refreshing drink and a classic in my house now. It is a simple drink but absolutely delicious and now a family and friend favourite. It definitely lends itself to summer but I see no reason why you cant enjoy it all year round.

Why We Love This Recipe

Bombay sapphire gin review from scientific point of view!!

Along with a dirty martini, the gin and tonic was my first love of a classic cocktail. My parents used to drink them on the back patio once in a while when the weather was nice. The ritual may have hooked me first, but the bracing, herbal qualities of a good gin, the generous squeeze of lime, and the slight, sweet fizz of tonic are what sold me in the end.

A stiff G& T is:

  • Well-balanced. A little bit herbal // a little bit bitter // a little bit sweet // a little bit sour // a little bit fizzy
  • Breezy and summery at its core, yet classic enough to be welcome all year round
  • SO easy to make. This highball cocktail is neither shaken nor stirred.
  • As refreshing or bracing as you like. We give our suggestions here, but you get to control the pour.

Final Review Thoughts & Pairings

I find gin to be a year-round spirit. While many people think of it as a winter beverage because of the juniper flavor, it blends nicely into many of my favorite summer cocktails. It pairs with lemon, lime and lavendar quite easily.

The flavor profile easily allows cocktails to be mixed with food or enjoyed solo. In true Bespoke Unit fashion, I also tried pairing a Bombay Sapphire gin and tonic with a mild cigar . I found that together they enhanced the botanicals in every sip and the flavors of the cigar within my mouth.

Bombay Sapphire is not overpowering there is a touch of each of the botanical flavors distinctly engaging the palate throughout the experience. It mixes easily but still finishes bold, making it one of my go-to gins.

Transform The Martini Into A Party Punch

The flavor of this martini is the perfect base for a fruity gin punch. It can easily be made to serve any sized party, from an intimate brunch to a big wedding bash. Because the ingredients are poured equally, there is very little math involved. However, it is a strong drink. Adding a little soda will knock that down to better fit punch service while giving it a nice sparkle.

  • Begin by adding twice as much soda as the total liquor volume: Use 1/3 part each of gin, blue curaçao, and peach schnapps mixed with 2 parts ginger ale or club soda. Taste and adjust if needed.
  • Switching to a nonalcoholic blue curaçao will lower the drinks strength as well. Look for it in the mixer section of the liquor store.
  • Dress up the punch bowl by freezing fresh berries, slices of citrus, and herbs into an ice ring.

Bombay Sapphire: Best Value Gin

Review of Bombay Sapphire gin!

Its ubiquitous blue bottle makes Bombay Sapphire an unmistakable choice behind any bar. Despite being a relative newcomer compared to Beefeater, Bombay Sapphire is another to have made a name for itself in the spirits market globally.

Known as one of the worlds most famous gins, Bombay Sapphire contains ten botanicals sourced from countries covering almost every continent. Alongside juniper, the spirit features lemon peel, coriander, angelica root, orris, grains of paradise, cubeb berries, cassia bark, almonds and liquorice.

The brand also uses a unique distilling process to create its distinctive flavour profile. Instead of boiling the botanicals, Bombay Sapphire uses a Vapour Infusion process to release the aromas. For its price point, Bombay Sapphire is an excellent choice and deserves its title as a staple brand.

Overall Bombay Sapphire Gin And Tonic

The cocktail manages to represent the flavor of the gin well however, to me it tastes a bit like it may be augmented with some additional flavors. It doesnt taste exactly like the Bombay Sapphire does in a gin and tonic especially not one diluted down to 5.9% ABV.

That aside, similar to the gin, juniper is the star but in concert with almond, lemon, coriander and grains of paradise.

This is a well made gin and tonic that as a cocktail judged in its own right is successful. I like the moderate sweetness. Fans of Bombay Sapphire looking for an exact canned version of the gin, with tonic water, may be disappointed. Further, I think the long lasting bitterness may push away anyone who isnt already a gin and tonic fan.

Overall, well done, but best judged as its own thing.

Recommended in its category.

What We Like About Bombay Sapphire Gin

There is no denying it this is more of an exotic gin. If you have not tried a craft gin before, you may be a bit surprised. It is perhaps not the right gin for someone new to gin.

However, if you are looking for a gin that is full of taste sensations, and you have got the time to sit down and enjoy a glass of truly good gin, Bombay Sapphire Gin is for you. It is a sipping gin that is more refined and sophisticated when compared to other gins in the same price range.

There is no doubt about it. This is truly a great gin that tastes great. Enjoy with a splash of tonic water or mix in a cocktail.
