The Captain Morgan you see in every bottle is a mascot, owing to his fame to artist Don Maitz. In 1944, the Seagram Company bought the Long Pond distillery from the Jamaican government.
Samuel Bronfman bought the rights to the unique Jamaican rum and named it Captain Morgan to commemorate the pirate. In 2001, Seagram sold the brand to Diageo.

You probably know the Captain from his flagship Original Spiced Rum, which has a surprisingly low number of calories per shot . But the brand has expended over the years, with a lighter White Rum, a 100 proof Spiced Rum, flavored rums like Coconut and Pineapple, and even a Captain Morgan Private Stock that blends Puerto Rican rums with a subtler dose of spice meant for more upscale, sipping-style consumption than the classic Captain and Coke.
Captain Morgan Black Spiced Rum Cocktails

Light accents of the classic cinnamon/nutmeg/clove trifecta are also present. It has a fairly complex nose for a rum aged only one year!
The palate offers an introduction of vanilla and traditional spices with notes of sweet fruit and butterscotch as you sip. Overall, its quite pleasant and does well when served on the rocks.
