NOM 1595 – Very unique and out of the ordinary tequila. Strong aromas of caramel, vanilla, cream soda. Flavors abound on the sweet side with vanilla and caramel bring heavy hitters. Finish is sweet with a hint of pepper leaving long silky legs behind. Price is steep perhaps because of the artesanal bottle included in the purchase. .

NOM 1595|Waaaaay too sweet for me, tastes like someone mixed tequila with maple syrup! This product pisses me off because it sells so well at duty free and so many people think this is what tequila is suppose to taste like.

I remember liking this tequila when I first got started with the spirit. Then I learned that I didnt really enjoy sweetened tequila, so I stopped drinking it in favor of artisan small batch non-sweetened products. Just tried it again, and sorry, its too sweet for me now.

The Patron En Lalique: Serie 2 Tequila bottle looks like a fine French perfume. The crystal glassware sits sparkling on shelves showing off a modernized sculpt of the original Patron En Lalique decanter, now gilded in white gold. The tequila inside is an extra añejo, with notes of French and American oak from the seasoned sherry barrels that the liquid gold spends eight years sitting in.

One bottle of Serie 2 tequila retails for $7,500.

Jose Cuervo 250 Aniversario

The crystal bottle of the Jose Cuervo 250 Aniversario tequila makes it look like designer cologne. The intense, warming flavor is a result of the single crop, mature agaves that go into the raw material of Jose Cuervo tequila. First, the drink is aged in American and French oak barrels and then blended with other flavors to give it its signature notes of chocolate and vanilla, with a butterscotch aftertaste. Spanish imported sherry barrels then serve as the vessels for the next step of the aging process.

Each bottle of Jose Cuervo 250 Aniversario tequila is sold in a hand-blown glass bottle and retails for over $2,000.

Clase Azul Tequila In A Hand

In most cases, when you hear premium tequila described as coming in a beautiful bottle, that bottle is usually glass. There are a few that are packaged in real Mexican pottery though and the Clase Azul packages are real works of art. Made by hand on a pottery wheel, fired, and hand-painted with fine glazes, these are gifts that will create a lasting impression on the lucky recipient. This is not a tequila bottle you want to hide in a closed bar cabinet. Its something to put out on display like a beautiful vase.

Probably for that reason, this is the kind of tequila Ive received the most as some kind of welcome gift at a high-end luxury hotel or villa rental. The first time was at Rosewood Las Ventanas in Los Cabos, recently when checking into a grand vacation rental from Agave Villas. It makes a great impression at first sight, but it also impresses when you go to sip it after a pour.

You wont normally buy an expensive bottle of liquor just for nice packaging, which is why Clase Azul is so satisfying. This is not one of those tequilas where the bottle and marketing hype justify the price more than whats inside. This is a premium spirit that would really stand out in a blind taste test and its approachable enough that you dont have to be a connoisseur to enjoy sipping it straight.

TASTING NOTES

Clase Azul Tequila Ultra

Clase Azul Tequila Ultra is the crown jewel of our portfolio, with an exquisite tequila and decanter exclusively designed for collectors around the world.

From the agave fields to bottling, this is a journey nearly 14 years in the making.

The incredible liquid spends five years aging, first in American whiskey casks, then in Spanish casks that previously contained sherry, bestowing a sublime touch.

Clase Azul In The Painted Porcelain Decanter

Back to the reposado decanters, because theyre almost as important as whats inside. In the town of Santa MarÃa Canchesda, the workshop of pottery makers and painters has grown to more than 350 artisans. They craft each bottle by hand, so none of them are exactly alike. The company says that each bottle takes two weeks to complete. Two weeks!

Now that Clase Azul price of around $150 in the USA, $90 in Mexico seems like a bargain. You could easily pay that much for a piece of quality talavera pottery in Puebla, but in this deal youre getting reposado tequila inside thats way above some higher-priced brands as well.

The hand-painted pottery is topped by a silver-plated dome and cork, crowning the decanter with a gleam. If youre looking for a special holiday gift for an important business client or tequila lover, you cant go wrong with this one. If you cant tell, Clase Azul tequila is one of my clear favorites.

You can find this brand in good duty-free stores at airports, so its an easy one to pick up on the way home, but youll probably pay less if you pick it up in a Mexican liquor store or supermarket. Itll probably be in a locked section and not out on the regular shelf though, so ask if you dont see it. You can also order it from many online spirits sellers in the USA and elsewhere.

Back in 2006, a bottle of Ley .925 Tequila Pasion Azteca Ultra Premium Anejo was sold to a collector for $225,000, making it the priciest tequila ever sold at the time. The Blue Agave plants sap is distilled and stored for six years in the barrel to create Ley .925 Tequila Pasion Azteca Ultra Premium Añejo, but thats not why the price is so high.

The real attraction is the custom-made bottle, made from pure platinum and pure white and yellow gold. The bottles design was made by Fernando Altamirano, CEO of Ley .925.

What About The Worm

Remember the worm we talked about in the opening section? As it turns out, worms have nothing to do with tequila. The worm in the bottle trick is often used by mezcal producers as a gimmick of sorts to draw attention to their product. In fact, the law says that tequila may not contain a worm or scorpion.

If a bottle is con gusano , then it is likely a mezcal and not a very good one at that. The worm is actually the larva of a moth that infests agave plants. An infested plant is the sign of a bad agave product. Proceed with caution.

Cheapest Place To Buy Clase Azul

Hey going to be in Cabo for a few weeks next month. While I am there I usually drink Centanario Anejo, but always like to bring home a nice bottle. In the past Ive just picked up a bottle of Don Julio 1942 from Costco, but a friend of mine shared a couple glasses of Clase Azul Reposado with me and I really liked it. Hoping someone could point me the direction as to where I could find this for a good price. Thanks

The La Europa Store next to the Cabo Walmart could be your best bet.

Edited: 3 years ago

Here is a list of reposadas that La Europea carries: www.laeuropea.com.mx/categorias/tequila-reposado

It looks like its only a fancy bottle for your Clase Azul. www.laeuropea.com.mx/productos/tequila-clase-azul-reposado-750-ml

Kind of expensive just to get a fancy bottle. There are many good sipping Tequilas out there. I second La Europea

You need to know what your price is locally before you buy high end Tequila in Cabo. Many of the top end brands are tourist priced and you can actually end up paying more than you would in your home town Clase Azul is one of those that is typically tourist priced. As is Patron, Cabo Wabo, Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia, etc.

Gran Centenario is a great tequila and you can save money by getting it in Cabo, Same with the 1921 brand. Even Herradura is good.

Tequila: Where Does It Come From

Tequila owes its name to the area it originated: a city called Tequila. The volcanic, red clay that is found in the region provide the perfect conditions for growing the premium blue agave.

Mexican law indicates that tequila is only made from blue agave grown in the state of Jalisco, Mexico and certain other locales in various states throughout Mexico. Jalisco features an area called, Los Altos, which is a highlands area. Tequila taste can be impacted depending on which region the blue agave come from – some sweeter than others.

You may notice that there are a couple of tequila products on our list from outside of Mexico. The Tequila Rose is a blended tequila product, that utilizes tequila made in Mexico . Number Juan is a tequila distilled in Mexico that undergoes some parts of the aging process in the US. Rest assured, anything called tequila has at least 51% blue agave and is distilled in Mexico.

Asombroso Reserva Del Porto

Clase Azul Reposado Tequila Review

The bottles of the Asombroso Reserva Del Porto Tequila are glass with crystal stoppers. They sell for $2,800 each, not because the bottles are lined with jewels, but because the tequila is so uniquely good.

The contents of the Del Porto tequila bottles have been aged for five years in French oak barrels and vintage-dated like wine, meaning signed and numbered to show age and exclusivity. The tequila is then processed in Port Wine barrels with sugar, which is why even among tequilas, Del Porto is exceptionally sweet. These Italian masterpieces are highly coveted collectors pieces.

Each gorgeous, shapely-silhouetted bottle of Clase Azul is a stunning work of art. Made with organic agave in Jalisco, Mexico, Clase Azul Tequila is crafted with time and care. Master distiller, Arturo Lomeli, blends time-honored tradition with innovation to produce a truly superior tequila. He waits more than nine years to harvest his agave at its peak of maturation when the heart of the plant is rich with flavor. Cooked with steam in traditional brick ovens, the agave achieves a deep, rich flavor, bringing out its juices. Next, Lomeli uses his proprietary yeast strain for fermentation, adding a rich complexity to the tequila. Clase Azul Tequila is distilled in copper pot stills and filtered three times for smoothness.

Clase Azul Reposado is delicious and great tequila, meant to be savored, sipped, and appreciated. Its also a great choice for those drinkers whod like to step up their game a bit, but dont want something too complex to enjoy. While its perfect for sipping, its not so pretentious that it cant be enjoyed equally by tequila connoisseurs and novices alike.

Clase Azul Reposado Tequila, the agave cooked with steam, was created after Arturo Lomeli mastered La Pinta Pomegranate Tequila. Each shapely bottle of Clase Azul is a stunning work of art.
