Easy Margarita On The Rocks

What Is In A Margarita On The Rocks

Easy Blue Margarita Recipe | Blue Curacao Cocktails | Booze On The Rocks

This margarita on the rocks is a simple cocktail made with just margarita mix and tequila. It really doesnt get much simpler than that!

We have some other cocktails perfect for summer sipping too, including this Blue Island Drink, my favorite Dirty Shirley Temple, and this Strawberry Peach Sangria with Lemons that is a summer favorite!

What Is Better In A Margarita Cointreau Or Triple Sec

I prefer Cointreau in a margarita. Cointreau is a orange citrus liqueur, made with sweet and bitter orange citrus rinds. It adds some great richness and mild citrus flavor that pairs perfectly with the lime juice in a margarita.

Triple Sec is also appropriate for a margarita. It is not as strong Cointreau is approximately 40% stronger than Triple Sec.

How To Make An Old Fashioned Cocktail:

To make this maple-sweetened old fashioned cocktail, simply:

  • Prep your orange peel. Use a vegetable peeler or knife to carefully cut a 2- to 3-inch-long piece of orange peel. Run the pulp-side of the peel around the rim of the cocktail glass. Then set aside.
  • Add bourbon, bitters, and maple syrup. And use a spoon to briefly stir to combine.
  • Add in the ice. And stir with the spoon again to mix and chill the drink.
  • Garnish and serve. Give the orange peel a good twist to release its oils, then tuck it into the drink. Add a maraschino cherry and serve immediately.
  • Cheers, everyone!

How Much Alcohol Is In A Margarita

This really depends on the recipe and your preferences. My preferred ratio for a great margarita is 2 parts Tequila to 1 part lime juice and 1 part Triple Sec. Thats quite a bit of alcohol in any given margarita .

So for a typical glass, you could expect 3 ounces of alcohol. If you want less alcohol in your drink, simply use a 1:1:1 ratio .

Easy Watermelon Margarita (On The Rocks)

A great margarita isnt complicated, and dont let anyone tell you otherwise. If you have tequila, orange liqueur , and plenty of limes on hand, you have everything you need. Just follow a ratio of three parts tequila, two parts orange liqueur, and one part lime juice. Yes, that makes for a strong sip, but because margaritas are usually shaken, the ice mellows out the boozy bite as it melts. Since its a little impractical to shake a whole pitcher of margaritas, youll stir the ice directly into the pitcher, then let it sit for five minutes before serving so some of the ice starts to melt.

I like the tartness of these three-ingredient margaritas, but if you prefer a sweeter drink, make a simple syrup and stir in a few spoonfuls to taste.

You can use whatever tequila you like for margaritas, but I prefer to go with cheaper options rather than the best Tequila. Once its mixed in, having the highest quality Tequila wont matter.

That being said, I also dont pick the cheapest Tequila. Go for a good mid-range Tequila and youll be set. Repasado Tequilas are much smoother than Blanco Tequilas, so I prefer that.

How To Add A Salted Rim

I vividly remember eating watermelon with my dad, when I was a kid. Hed come in from working in the fields on a hot summer day and sometimes all hed want for supper was a big plate of cold watermelon. Sliced into giant wheels with the rind still on, he oftentimes sprinkled the watermelon with salt. Have you ever eaten watermelon that way? Its no wonder I like my watermelon margaritas with a salt-rimmed glass!

To add a salted rim to your margarita: Dip the glass rim into a shallow bowl of water or run the cut edge of a lime wedge around the rim. Then immediately dip the wet rim into a shallow bowl of coarse salt. Thats it! So easy!

Youll use silver tequila, also called blanco or white tequila, for a mild flavor. Its colorless because it hasnt been aged, unlike reposado tequilas, which are more golden in color. The pale spirit will keep your watermelon margarita an appealing shade of pink and bursting with watermelon flavor.

    Simple Homemade Margarita Recipe

Margarita On The Rocks | Easy Margarita Recipe | Booze On The Rocks

If theres one drink that should be so simple, but somehow turns so complicated, I think its a margarita. Theres blended, on the rocks, from a mix that comes in gallon-sized jugs sometimes with alcohol already added and sometimes without.

Some margaritas are made with just tequila and others with a smorgasbord of other booze added, including triple sec, Cointreau, Gran Marnier, Chambord, and more.

People shouldnt need to look up how to make a margarita because it shouldnt be so hard. Ive gone back to the basics, with the classic margarita ingredients.

    Make Homemade Margarita Mix

Homemade margaritas are so easy to make from scratch, so I dont think pre-made margarita mixes are really necessary. However, you can make your own homemade margarita mix to help prep for parties.

  • Combine sugar, orange juice, lime juice, & salt in a saucepan on medium heat.
  • Heat for 5 minutes, until sugar is dissolved, stirring frequently.
  • Let the mixture cool and store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
  • If youre planning to host a party, a mix will make the drink-making process much easier!

How To Make A Classic Margarita

The classic garnish for a margarita is a salt rim. To achieve this for a crowd, fill a saucer with lime juice, water, or a mix of the two. Fill a second saucer with kosher salt or coarse sea salt. If you’d like, you can add lime zest, chili powder, or other seasonings to the salt. If you’re adding spices, mix no more than one part spice to three parts salt.

I prefer a rocks glass for a classic margarita, but use a if you must. If you’re prepping several margaritas, turn your glass upside-down, place it in the saucer of lime juice at an angle, and turn the cup so that just the outside lip of the glass is wetted by the lime and water mixture. Immediately place the rim of the glass flat into the saucer of salt, then lift, turn the glass right-side-up, set aside, and repeat with remaining glasses. It’s important to moisten just the outside of the glass so that you don’t get salt inside the glass, which can throw off the flavors of the drink.

Just making one or two drinks? Run a halved juicy lime just around the outside rim of your glasses and then dip into the saucer of salt.

For each margarita, add 2 ounces tequila, 1 ounce high-quality orange liqueur , and 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice.

Taking care not to mar the salt rim, fill cocktail glasses to the top with more fresh ice cubes.

This article is about how to make a margarita on the rocks. If you would like to learn how to make afrozen margarita, we’ve got you covered.

A classic margarita has just a few simple ingredients: tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice. With so few components, and no sugary, faux-fruit sweeteners, it’s best to start with high-quality booze and real honest-to-goodness limes.

As for the alcohol, I like this tequila, which was featured on our holiday gift guide, but any blanco or reposado tequila will work. Choose blanco if you like a crisp-tasting margaritait’s the least aged tequila, has a clear appearance, and generally has a vegetal taste and aroma. If you like a margarita with a little more complexity, go for reposado, which has been aged in oak from 2 months to 1 year and has a smoother taste and golden color. You may also see joven tequila, a blend of blanco and reposado, which is also a great margarita base, as well as añejo and extra-añejo . Those last two are considered sipping tequilas, and not something you would typically use for a mixed drink .

Finally, there’s the mezcal margarita. Mezcal is essentially tequila that’s undergone a smoking process during production and makes for a margarita that pairs exceptionally well with a grilled Mexican feast.

Last week, I ventured out to Chilis with two of my dearest friends, Kristen and Melanie, to celebrate my birthday. With life being so chaotic for everyone these days, our get-together ended up being almost a month past my birthday. Oh, how Im sure youve been there before.

Im just proud we made it happen. That in itself is an accomplishment if you know what I mean!

9 times out of 10, if the 3 of us are getting together, were meeting up at Chilis. Its in a convenient location for all three of us, has an abundance of chips and salsa, and an extremely large cocktail menu. Really, what more could us ladies ask for?!

Two seconds after sitting down at the restaurant, the girls and I perused the cocktail menu. My go-to cocktail at Chilis is always the frozen mango margarita. I was just about to order it when the waitress told us about the $5 margarita of the month

    Wait, what?! Tell me more.

With three different tequilas and three different fruit flavors to choose from, I was pretty much sold! Lucky for me they had a mango version for me to order. Kristen went for the blackberry option.

Whats The Best Tequila For Margaritas

Many sources say tequila blanco is best for margaritas. Tequila blanco has been aged less than 2 months and has that classic tequila burn. But tequila reposado adds an intriguing depth of flavor: its our top pick. Heres our preference for the best tequila for margaritas:

    • Tequila reposado is aged longer than blanco, at least 2 months. This gives it a more nuanced flavor, with notes of vanilla and oak. We like the margarita best with reposado, but you can use whatever you prefer!
    • Either way, try to find a mid-price range tequila. You dont want to be making this drink with the cheap stuff!

What’s The Best Tequila For Margaritas

I highly recommend using only good-quality tequila to make your margaritas. With only three ingredients in the cocktail, a bad tequila will result in an equally bad margarita.

Look for bottles with labels that say 100% de agave, which means the tequila is distilled only from Mexican blue agave plants. Cheap tequilas are often cut with alcohol made from corn or sugar cane, resulting in a tequila that tastes flat and burns on the way down.

In addition, good-quality tequila is aged in oak barrels for 2 to 12 months, which gives it nuanced flavors. Blanco tequila is aged for 2 months, reposado for 2 to 11 months, and añejo for 12 or more months.

You can serve this cocktail with salt, or not. Straight, or over the rocks. That part is up to you!

    A Note About Measuring

In the recipe section, I referred to the ingredients as shots. Some recipes use ounces, cups, and shots, all in one. Holy confusion after youve had a few.

The very average-sized shot glass I use holds the same amount of liquid as a 1/4-cup measure, which makes it easy to make the recipe in bulk. X parts this to Y parts that.

While you could technically share the recipe as written, after having one, youll want another. So plan on it serving one, nicely. You can sip worry-free since theres no granulated sugar.

    Why We Love This Recipe

A solidly constructed margarita on the rocks, well-balanced and made with top-shelf ingredients, is an institution. It’s a thing every cocktail lover should know how to make.

Just like we’ve done with the daiquiri, Americans have ruined the margarita in SO many ways over the years that it’s not even worth enumerating. But to adopt a rocks-glass-half-full mentality, that makes it all the more satisfying to get back to the basics.

So lets talk about how to make mojitos! For a single serving, simply:

  • Muddle your mint. Combine your mint, rum, lime juice, and sweetener in a cocktail shaker. Then use a cocktail muddler to gently muddle the mint a bit so that those fresh minty flavors get released.
  • Shake with ice. Add ice to the cocktail shaker, then cover and give it a good vigorous shake for about 15 seconds until chilled.
  • Strain then top with club soda. Strain the mixture into a tall glass filled with ice, being sure that an inch or so is left at the top of the glass. Top off with club soda.
  • And serve! Garnished with lots of extra fresh mint and lime, if desired.
  • That said, while making a mint mojito in a cocktail shaker is standard, I often take a shortcut and just muddle and mix everything together directly in the serving glass , which is just as delicious. )
