What Is 1800 Tequila Made From

Initially released in 1975, 1800 Tequila was one of the first premium tequilas offered in the United States. What may surprise you is that it is produced by Jose Cuervo at the same distilleryCasa Cuervowhere the biggest name in tequila is made.

Cuervo is located just outside the town of Tequila in Jalisco, Mexico, in the heart of tequila country. The old distillery complex is the perfect picturesque style of traditional Mexican architecture and culture. If you get a chance to tour it, you will not regret the experience .

The production process for 1800 Tequila is standard in the tequila industry. It follows most of the conventional processes and techniques followed by other tequila brands, including the use of 100% blue Weber agave.

To make the tequila, the agave plants are harvested once mature, which is around 8 to 12 years. They are baked in the distillery’s massive traditional clay brick ovens before the juice is extracted. The agave juice is then fermented with yeast, which turns the sugars into alcohol, and that is distilled twice in copper pot stills.

The white tequilas destined to be 1800 Silver are blended soon after distillation to form the tequila’s signature taste. Other tequilas are aged in American and French oak barrels until they’re ready to become either a reposado tequila or añejo tequila . The tequilas are bottled at 40 percent alcohol by volume .

Reduces Pain And Inflammation

Agave contains saponin compounds, which might have anti-inflammatory properties. This means that consuming saponin may potentially reduce pain associated with inflammation.

According to an older study , Mexican traditional medicine has used Agave tequilana, Agave americana, and Agave angustifolia as an anti-inflammatory for centuries.

The study noted all three agave species had an anti-inflammatory effect when scientists injected it into mice with swollen ears, though A. americana had the most potent effect.

Is Sierra Tequila Vegan

Sierra Tequila does not contain any animal ingredients and the tequila itself is vegan. Although it is worth mentioning that the glue used to stick the labels is not vegan this may be an issue for strict vegans.

Espolon Tequila is vegan.

When I was reading the tasting notes of Espolons Resposado, Anejo, and Anejo X tequilas I noticed tasting notes of honey and caramel, which obviously made me question if these varieties were vegan. Looking into their production process, which is described in detail on their website, it looks like the honey tasting notes come from the piñas themselves . The caramel tasting notes come from pressure-cooking the piñas to caramelize them as well as the column still distillation. Pretty cool to know that caramel and honey taste doesnt always need to come from animal sources.

Reduce The Risk Of Type 2 Diabetes

Agave contains agavins that may provide sweetness and nutrition without impacting blood sugar levels. This is because the body cannot absorb them.

A 2014 study found that agavins help reduce blood sugar levels and improve insulin levels, which regulates blood sugar levels.

Since the body does not digest and absorb agavins in the same way as other sugars, consuming agavins may also aid in weight loss and reduce the risk of obesity, which increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

However, most agave syrups that are commercially available contain fructans broken down into fructose sugars. The body can digest fructose, and it does impact blood sugar levels.

Warnings About Consuming Alcohol On A Ketogenic Diet

Alcohol shouldnt be consumed heavily or on a consistent basis. There are many negative health benefits, but in the short run dont forget the following when consuming your alcohol:

    • Calories. Alcohol still counts as calories and will slow fat loss down. Alcohol is burned as a priority by the body.
    • Tolerance. Most people on a ketogenic or low-carb diet experience a much lower tolerance to alcohol than usual. Be careful with consumption.
    • Hunger. Many people experience heightened levels of hunger when drinking this can lead to bad decisions or just over-consuming in general.
    • Dehydration. Since keto is a natural diuretic, you have to be watchful of how much water youre drinking alongside the alcohol. Try to drink 1 glass per 1 shot and extra water before bed.
    • Added sugars. Mixers, liqueurs, and many alcohols will contain some type of flavoring or added sugar. While many companies are publishing nutrition information, you should try to be prepared and research nutrition beforehand.

Weve read a lot of articles that mention drinking light beers and very dry wine to avoid carbohydrates, but dont get out of hand with consumption. Some light beers can contain over 10g net carbs and some dry wine can average over 8g carbs per glass.

Its also important to note that alcohol does contain calories. There is no function in the human body to store the energy in alcohol, so your body will take a preference to metabolize alcohol over fat.

Alcohol And Mixers To Avoid On A Ketogenic Diet

Most of us that are on a low-carb, ketogenic diet know that sugar is in just about everything you can find. This also applies to mixers and chasers for alcohol, as well.

    • Port/Sherry. These are also known as dessert wines and include all types of port, sherry, and sauternes. They have a very high sugar alcohol, commonly averaging over 13g carbs for just a 3 oz serving. Avoid these where possible.
    • Sweet Wines. Much sweeter than dry wines, these are typically enjoyed with dessert and are a bit lighter than port or sherry. These include Moscato, auslese riesling, tokaji, and malvasia wines. They typically have around 11-18g carbs per glass, so you should avoid these.
    • Sangria/Margarita Mix. Typically sangria mixes and margarita mixes have over 10g carbs per 1.5 oz serving . Avoid these as much as possible.
    • Wine Coolers/Alcopops. The most common of these are Smirnoff ice theyre essentially sugar-laden soda with alcohol in them. You should definitely avoid these.
    • Liqueurs. Usually a combination of alcohol and a simple syrup , these are extremely high in carbohydrates. Below, youll find a full list of the most common liqueurs and their respective nutrition information.

Mmmmm not sure what to say, this doesnt really have anything in common with the rest of the lineup/category after adding the coconut. Great for shots and giving people confidence that can drink tequila!

Aroma is like a coconut tanning oil !?!

Very strong coconut flavour & smell. Stronger alcohol finish. Little bit of a toasted flavour.

Its an acquired taste for sure. A little too unnatural flavoring for me.

This is actually pretty good over ice w/ lime selzer. Thats about it

    • 55Rating

I am not a fan of ‘flavored’ tequilas, so maybe my rating is unfair. Coconut rums and vodkas can make a decent cocktail, but this had me a bit sideways. A definite chemical mouth feel that never seems in balance for a tequila.

    • 66Rating

A decent flavored tequila that is best utilized in making fruity, and very sweet drinks. Like a piña colada or ocean water. Just a fun simple tequila.

Now this is what tequila is all about.

Great as a mixer heavy coconut hence the name sweet but not unbearably sweet

    • 67Rating

This tequila is exactly what it promises to be. Sugar packed coconut flavour. Shoot it until your hearts content.

    • 56Rating

What can you say…It is what it is. My main experience with it is through chilled shots which does make it more pleasant. Neat is a bit rough.

    • 92Rating

OK, it’s not a regular tequila. But it is very tasty, very drinkable, and without any harshness.

Stole it from my husband at the monthly tequila tasting. Yummy!!
