Where Can I Buy Bob Dylan Whiskey

New Bob Dylan Whiskey Combines American Bourbon With Traditional Irish Whiskey

Can Bob Dylan Make Good Bourbon?

BOB DYLAN’S collection of whiskeys is launching a brand-new product which promises to combine ‘Irish and American artistry’.

The American musician, whose love for Ireland is well-documented, recently co-created a collection of handcrafted American Whiskeys aptly named Heaven’s Door, with each bottle showcasing the iron gates the artist created himself in his recording studio.

Now Dylan’s team at Heaven’s Door have teamed up with Redbreast Irish Whiskey for a limited edition uisce beatha, the Master Blenders’ Edition.

Proclaimed as being “a tribute to shared Irish and American artistry”, the Master Blenders’ Edition sees Heaven’s Door Master Blender Ryan Perry and Redbreast Master Blender Billy Leighton collaborate on the 10-year-old Heaven’s Door Straight Bourbon Whiskey, finished in casks used in Redbreast’s Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey.

The result is a “full and complex body by way of Rich Ripe Fruit, Red Apples, Figs and Dates, as well as an unmistakable nutty note of Marzipan and Ground Nut”.

Despite being so new to the game, the delectable combination has already been awarded a double gold medal in a blind tasting competition in the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits competition- a prestigious award for a distinguished whiskey.

The Master Blenders’ Edition is the result of over two years of work by Perry, Leighton, and Bob Dylan, who taste tested over a dozen different blends before deciding on the final product.

We Asked Heavens Door About The Musicians Inscrutable Tasting Notes

He gives me Bob-like feedback.

Thats the best way that Master Blender Ryan Perry can describe the creative process that goes into the Heavens Door whiskey brand, a co-creation of the 80-year music legend and Spirits Investment Partnership .

Now three years old, Heavens Door has won numerous accolades for its American whiskey releases, including a Double Gold at this years San Francisco World Spirits Competition for the limited-edition, just-launched Master Blenders Edition .

The core releases of Heavens Door include a Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Double Barrel Whiskey and Straight Rye Whiskey finished in cigar barrels from Vosges, France. As well, there are a number of limited editions and a Bootleg Series of releases.

As we noted back in 2019, Dylan is a full partner in the brand, and the singer is featured prominently in marketing campaigns. As well, the bottles artwork is derived from Dylans sculptures crafted at Black Buffalo Ironworks, and the singer provided the brand with well, some inscrutable tasting notes during the whiskeys creation.

That said, he was pretty straight forward but light on details during the brands launch, when he offered this quote about Heavens Door via a press release: We wanted to create a collection of American whiskeys that, in their own way, tell a story. Ive been traveling for decades, and Ive been able to try some of the best spirits that the world of whiskey has to offer.

Heavens Door 10 Year Tennessee Straight Bourbon Limited Edition

This limited edition bottle might be a little harder to track down, but it sounds worth the effort. This bourbon is matured using charcoal columns made from Tennessee sugar maple trees. This is a method known as the Lincoln County Process. This gives the whiskey some interesting flavours including candied walnuts, cooked peaches, steeped tobacco, and grilled pineapple.

The artwork on each bottle in influenced by Bob Dylans artistic creations. He works at Black Buffalo Studio, creating art from various materials that he collects during his travels, including kitchen utensils, guns, and scrap metal. His sculptures are very interesting to look at and Heavens Door Whiskey bottles really showcase the quality of his work.

What Beautiful Packaging: Bob Dylan Bootleg Whiskey

Rick Lingle | Nov 02, 2020

Bob Dylan, one of the world’s most influential and groundbreaking artists, has an entrepreneurial side as well. He’s been involved for the past several years in Heaven’s Door Spirits, a collaboration with Spirits Investment Partnership. Referencing one of the artists many hits, it’s Dylans first and only consumer brand partnership in a 50-year run as a worldwide cultural icon.

The brand has just announced the second release in the Bob Dylan Bootleg Series. From a packaging design standpoint, its a beauty of a gold-standard hit.

To carry the allusion a step further relative to an old-school vinyl record, Id call it a double-sided hit in that both the primary and secondary packaging are richly appointed.

Named in tribute to Bob Dylan’s famed series of eponymous retrospective album collections, the Bootleg Series is a limited-edition collection of rare whiskeys and special blends. The 2020 release features a cask-strength, 15-year-old Straight Bourbon finished in 30-year-old Jamaican Pot Still Rum Casks.

With fewer than 3,000 bottles offered, the 2019 inaugural release of The Bootleg Series , received The Chairman’s Trophy and was named to the Top 100 Spirits at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge 2020. Shown below, the 2019 Vol 1 release sold out immediately upon release.

The striking, warmly orange hues of his artwork is reproduced with dramatic effect on the bottle. Id forgotten that hes a painter, much less a highly accomplished one.

Shelter From The Storm: A Review Of Bob Dylans Whiskey

Taste Test Heavens Door Whiskey From Bob Dylan

On August 12, 1963, Bob Dylan recorded a version of The Moonshinera dismal, repentant drinking song thats been part of the American folk vernacular since at least the nineteen-thirtiesat a session for his third LP, The Times They Are A-Changin. The rendition is grim. His voice sounds particularly low and fragile on the first verse, as he describes an inevitable retreat into the mountains:

I go to some hollow,And sit at my stillAnd if whiskey dont kill meThen I dont know what will

Most versions of the song are mournful, if not bereft. I cant think of a single iteration that doesnt make me want to drink, and then feel deep shame about drinking. Theres Uncle Tupelos arrangement, from 1992, or Roscoe Holcomb and Wade Wards, from 1962, or Cat Powers particularly gutting variant, from 1998 . The song seems to force its singers into a kind of funereal reckoning: life is simply too long and hard to bear sober. Cheers!

The collection is called Heavens Door, in a sly and enticing nod to Knockin on Heavens Door, a song Dylan wrote, in 1973, for the Western Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid . Ive been travelling for decades, and Ive been able to try some of the best spirits that the world of whiskey has to offer, Dylan said of the stuff. This is great whiskey.

Im laying in the sand getting a sunshine tan,Moving along, riding in styleFrom my toes to my head, you knock me dead,Im gonna have to put you down for a while

Bob Dylans Latest Gig: Making Whiskey

In late 2015, an unexpected name popped up in the liquor industry press: Bob Dylan.

A trademark application for the term bootleg whiskey had been filed under Mr. Dylans name. Among those who noticed the news was Marc Bushala, 52, a lifelong fan and a liquor entrepreneur whose bourbon brand, Angels Envy, had just been sold for $150 million. Mr. Bushala said he immediately spent weeks obsessing over this concept of what a Dylan whiskey could be.

So he reached out, and after being vetted by Mr. Dylans representatives, Mr. Bushala who speaks branding jargon like flavor profile and name exploration in an earnest Midwestern accent talked to Mr. Dylan by phone, and proposed working together on a portfolio of small-batch whiskeys. As he saw it, there was just one problem: The name bootleg, while an apt Dylanological pun, wasnt quite right for a top-shelf liquor. Might Mr. Dylan, Nobel laureate, be open to some name exploration?

It was a little bit daunting, Mr. Bushala said of his pitch.

But it worked. Next month, he and Mr. Dylan will introduce Heavens Door, a collection of three whiskeys a straight rye, a straight bourbon and a double-barreled whiskey. They are Mr. Dylans entry into the booming celebrity-branded spirits market, the latest career twist for an artist who has spent five decades confounding expectations.

Sometimes you just get a long look, Mr. Bushala said with a laugh, and youre not sure if thats disgust or approval.

Dylan launched his own brand of Tennessee whiskey called Heavens Door in 2018, named after his 1973 hit that was later famously covered by Guns n Roses in 1987.

And now, the whiskey label is Tangled Up In a deal with When We Are Giants, the distribution and marketing arm of Drinksology, which means Heavens Doors three core whiskeys will be sold in the UK.

Mike Beavan, When We Are Giants sales director, said there has already been fantastic interest in listing the whiskeys. They are currently available on Master of Malt and the Whiskey Exchange.

This is an exciting milestone for us as we bring Heavens Door to the UK where Bob Dylan kicked off his first ever European tour more than 55 years ago, said Marc Bushala, CEO of Heavens Door Spirits.

The 76-year-old singer and Nobel laureate teamed up with liquor entrepreneur Bushala, who was also the co-founder of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Angels Envy, to release his own line of whiskies in April 2018.

The partnership came about after Bushala noticed that Dylan had filed a trademark application of bootleg whiskey, and contacted the singer to make his pitch. The rest soon followed.

There are three in the range: a Tennessee Bourbon and Straight Rye Whiskey, which both have an RRP of £75 per 700ml, and a Double Barrel Whiskey priced at £95 per bottle.

Bob Dylan Releases Heaven’s Door Whiskey

Whiskey Review: Heaven’s Door Straight Bourbon Whiskey by Bob Dylan

After nearly 60 years in the music business, Bob Dylan has decided times are a’ changin’ and has gotten tangled up in booze.

His Heaven’s Door whiskey line will be released in May, featuring a straight rye finished in French Vosges oak casks, a seven-year-old bourbon, and a “double-barrelled” whiskey.

Heaven’s Door will be based out of a deconsecrated church in Tennessee and initially will only be available in Tennessee, Florida, California, Illinois, New York and Texas .

The project is a collaboration between Dylan and liquor entrepreneur Marc Bushala, the man behind bourbon Angel’s Envy, which he sold for $150 million to Bacardi in 2015.

According to the New York Times, Bushala noticed that Dylan had made a trademark application for the name “bootleg whiskey” and reached out to his representatives to gauge interest in working together on a small batch release to serve to somebody.

Lo and behold, a deal went down and he even convinced Dylan to drop the “bootleg” from the name to better sell high-end whiskeys.

However, the “bootleg” brand is handled with care, and saved for a special release. Heaven’s Door will launch a luxury “Bootleg Series,” featuring ceramic bottles decorated with Dylan’s oil and watercolor paintings. The first will be a 25-year-old whiskey, available next year.

Heavens Door Double Barrel Whiskey

Double Barrel Whiskey is a blend of three different whiskeys that is double-barrelled, which means it is aged twice in two different types of oak barrels. This is a premium whiskey that has a nose containing plenty of honey, oak, tobacco and vanilla. In terms of flavor, expect caramel, cocoa, and brown sugar to dominate. However, there are also hints of pepper, cloves, and nutmeg in the background. It has quite a kick at the end of the taste, due to its high ABV.
