Good Options That Blend Price And Taste
- Smirnoff: This is a solid alcohol. It burns a bit going down, but it’s a great bang for your buck. It does the job, doesn’t take like rubbing alcohol, and blends pretty seamlessly with most flavors. It’s also what I used in this article! Smirnoff also has a ton of flavored options.
- Vitali: In our taste test, this vodka ranked well ahead of everything but Goose. If you want quality and quantity, this is probably your best option. It blended really well with the gelatin and didn’t have too much of an alcohol-y kick.
- New Amsterdam: A slightly classier Smirnoff, in my opinion. They’re similarly priced, taste similar, and both do the job well. If one is on sale, go with that one because, like I said, they’re really similar.
- Three Olives: This stuff is pretty tasty, and they have some unique flavors . However, it’s a bit pricer than Smirnoff. It’s a bit smoother than Smirnoff. It’s definitely worth a try, but maybe isn’t the most economical choice for a huge rager. Using the cherry flavor vodka in the shots definitely made the flavor more pronounced.

- Svedka: I avoid this like the plague. I can always count on Svedka to make me sick and give me a headache in the morning. No other vodka has this affect on me. I once heard the adage, “Never trust liquor that comes in a plastic bottle.” This stuff used to come in a plastic bottle, and I think that adage holds true here. I’d recommend avoiding this at all costs. It tastes like liquid plastic.

The Best Vodka For Jello Shots

Colorful, sweet, and full of sugar, jello shots just scream party. Theyre easy to make and dont usually contain too much alcohol so you can play plenty of drinking games without going too far.
You dont need to use something super expensive but you should also avoid the cheapest of the cheap. You dont want too much vodka coming through, jello shots are supposed to be smooth and tasty. The best vodka for jello shots is a neutral, middle-shelf bottle of smooth vodka. The good news is that one bottle goes a long way when creating jello shots, so youll never break the bank. You could play around with flavored vodka too, just to make your shot a little different.
While not exactly a drink, jello shots are still considered a cocktail. Like any cocktail, they have a history. Like most cocktail origin stories, its a little fuzzy. One easy piece of evidence is found in a 2009 song by comedy musician Luke Ski.
The song credits the invention of jello shots to mathematician Tom Lehrer. Lehrer is said to have created the now-famous gelatin shooters as a means of sneaking booze into a Military Christmas party in 1956.
This definitely happened, but its not the first sign of them in all of history. Lehrer himself laughs at the notion, stating that while he did think of the idea independently, he knows he wasnt the first or only.
In truth, no one knows where the idea for jello shots as we know them originated, but the mystery just adds to the fun.
How To Make This Eggnog Jello Shots Recipe
STEP ONE: Pour your eggnog into a small saucepan and sprinkle gelatin over the surface of the eggnog allow the gelatin to bloom for 5 minutes.
STEP TWO: Bring the mixture up to a simmer over medium heat.
STEP THREE: Remove the eggnog from the heat and allow it to cool for 10 minutes.
PRO TIP:
Allow the dissolved gelatin mixture to cool slightly before adding in the vodka. This will prevent the alcohol from boiling out, resulting in weaker shots. By pouring the eggnog mixture into a separate container, it will allow the mixture enough time to cool to a sufficient temperature and make it easier to pour into your individual shot glasses!
STEP FOUR: Stir in the rum, vodka, and half the nutmeg.
STEP FIVE: Pour the eggnog-rum mixture into 2-ounce cups. Place the caps on the cups and place them in the fridge for 2 hours until the jello sets.
STEP SIX: Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg.
PRO TIP:
You could also add festive green and red sprinkles to the top of your whipped cream to make this treat extra colorful.

Vodka is the most common alcohol associated with Jello Shots, but you can use whatever alcohol you’d like. Use rum for a Rum and Coke Jello Shot, tequila for a Tequila Sunrise Jello Shot, and Fireball for a straight up Fireball Jello Shot. If you can dream it, there’s a good chance you can Jello Shot it.
Watermelon Vodka Jelly Shots
Ingredients: half a medium watermelon, a quarter cup of sugar, 300 ml vodka, 6 tbsp agar flakes

How Long Are Jello Shots Good For
You should eat your shots within a week. Two weeks at the absolute most!
After that, the gelatin will start to break down and they will have a weird texture and the taste isnt great.
See?! How easy is that? The hard part if waiting for them to set up. Its worth noting youll get about 10 or so vodka jello shots per box of Jell-O. SO if youre making one flavor youll want to grab a few boxes of gelatin. Or you can have fun with your colors and flavors and mix things up!

Jell-O: for this Lucky Charm recipe I used green Jell-O powder! You can use another flavor of jello like green apple too.
Alcohol: you can use plain or flavored vodka. I really like how vanilla vodka tastes with lime.
Pro tip: if you dont want to use vodka you can substitute it with any kind of alcohol, vodka is just the most common.
Toppings: whipped cream and shamrock sprinkles.

How Much Alcohol Is In Each Shot
As fore-mentioned, jello shots can be a little dangerous since they taste so darn good. If you want to plan out your night and drink responsibly, Ive crunched the numbers for you.
I suggest buying 2 oz containers and filling them halfway to give you 1 oz for each shot. This recipe is made with 16 oz of liquid, 4 oz of which are vodka. This will give you 1/4 oz of vodka per shot. This will equal a 10% alcohol content.
If you want the shots to give more of a buzz, you can replace some or all of the cold water with vodka. As long as you add 1 cup of cold liquid in total for step two, the recipe will work just fine. I suggest refrigerating the vodka beforehand if you plan on using a high ratio.

How Much Alcohol Is In A Jello Shot
This jello shot recipe uses 1/2 cup vodka for 12 shots = 1/3 ounce vodka per shot. Thats 4 jello shots to equal 1 regular shot.
Even if you take out the cold water and use 1 cup vodka = thats still only 2/3 ounce vodka per shot. This is typical of jello shots. Thats 2 jello shots to equal 1 shot.
Choosing A Flavor Combination
Any flavor of jello mix can become a jello shot. A smooth, neutral-tasting vodka wont add anything other than alcohol content. If youre having a big party, this is great because you can serve up a simple flavor to please even the pickiest party-goers.
But, that doesnt mean you cant use flavored vodka to create something more unique. This is where you should be careful, though, as not everything goes with everything. Some trial and error may be required to find the best combination of jello and vodka flavors.

- Absolut: In the same quality tier as Grey Goose, this is a wonderful vodka. However, the extra quality that you’re paying for is likely to get lost in the Jell-O. If you find a good sale though, go for it! This vodka won’t disappoint.
- Belvedere: While delicious and smooth with only the slightest of burns, the intricate flavors are going to be overwhelmed by the Jell-O. If you can swing it and want some smooooth shots, go for it.
