Fistful Of Bourbon Price & Value

Price is also a very important piece of information. So, how much does a bottle of Fistful of Bourbon cost? A 750ml bottle will run you just around $25. This puts it on the lower end of the price spectrum, especially when it comes to whiskey you can sip.

The value of Fistful of Bourbon changes based on who you are and what youre looking for. A novice drinker may use it as a good sipping whiskey. Its flavorful and fairly smooth, so its an easy drink. Furthermore, its cheap. A more experienced drinker may prefer to use it as a mixing whiskey. Its flavorful enough to shine through mixers, and its cheap enough to where you dont feel bad mixing it.

Fistful Of Bourbon Review: Details And Tasting Notes

In William Grant & Sons Words: Fistful of Bourbon

IT AINT JUST A BOURBON. ITS A DAMN FISTFUL. The idea was a big whisky that balances sweet and spice. To get there, each finger of our Fistful has a distinct flavor. * Sweet, balanced and smooth.

Corn, vanilla, caramel, orchard fruit, nuts and copper.

PALATE Corn rye, caramel, nuts, fruit, vanilla, copper and a touch of oak and spice.

FINISH Medium Corn, vanilla, oak, spice and a sweetness that makes me think of cream soda.

BALANCE, BODY & FEEL Good balance, medium body and a light dry feel.

Fistful Of Bourbon Mixed Drinks

As a $25 bourbon, you can choose to sip it or mix it. If you buy a bottle and dont like it as much as we do, simply add a couple ingredients to spice it up. Below is a list of a couple drinks you can try. Or visit their website for a list of cocktails to make.

  • Old Fashioned: Crush up a sugar cube, add a couple dashes of bitters, and pour 2oz of bourbon into a glass over ice. Garnish with an orange twist.
  • Gold Rush: 2 parts bourbon, 1 part lemon juice, 1/2 part honey syrup.
  • There are obviously plenty of mixed drinks you can make with bourbon, but these are two of my favorite options in general. Its a bonus that they go so well with Fistful of Bourbon.

Blended whiskeys arent usually a big selling point. I mean, a large portion of whiskeys are blended, but companies dont market it the way Fistful of Bourbon does. They really lean into the idea of being a blended bourbon.

The bottle makes it abundantly clear its a blended bourbon. The back of the bottle has the five intended flavor profiles of each of the bourbons lined up with each finger on a hand.

Bourbon is the second powerhouse in the whisky world and its made in America primarily from corn. Unlike in Scotland and Ireland where whisky is made primarily from the same grain, American whiskeys are often made from a mix of different grains, known as mash. In fact, its quite common for an American whiskey to made up of corn, wheat, rye and barley.

For bourbon to be called bourbon, it must be made from a minimum of 51% corn, must be distilled to an ABV of no more than 80%, and must be aged in new charred-oak barrels. The charred-oak barrels and corn are easily the biggest factors that differentiates bourbon from other whiskys, as it gives the whiskey a much sweeter flavor and smoother texture than barley.

    Fistful Of Bourbon Taste Summary

If youre an experienced whiskey drinker, youll likely find this to be boring. Its a flavorful bourbon, but not entirely complex and lacks some depth. This isnt surprising, or off-par, from a young blend.

If youre more of a novice or just looking for something to sip on, I think Fistful of Bourbon is a great choice. As I mentioned, its quite flavorful. In addition, its light and fairly smooth. Not a bourbon to really sit down and study. Pour a glass and enjoy. It also doubles down as a decent mixing whiskey as well.

In reference to Fistful of Bourbons flavor profile, I would say they are fairly accurate in their assessment. Fruit, cinnamon, and licorice are the predominant flavors and aromas found in this bourbon. Theres also some light nutmeg and floral notes as well. I dont get much of the toffee notes, though but more of a creamy and buttery mouthfeel.

    Fistful Of Bourbon Review: Overall

With a light and sweet aroma, a light and sweet palate and a light and sweet finish I can safely say Fistful of Bourbon is a light sweet bourbon. It comes across kind of like a combo of Jim Beam White, Makers Mark and Buffalo Trace. Its not challenging, its not deep and its not complex, but it is flavorful which makes it the perfect intro bourbon.

I think experienced drinkers might find this to be a tad on the boring and unchallenging side with the soft sweet profile, but welcoming and useful for those starting out or who like a soft sweet style. Which I know there are plenty of out there so I have no doubt this is a bourbon that will find its niche. In the meantime Im excited to see what the William Grant folks blend up next.

    SCORE: 82/100

    Fistful of Bourbon Review Summary

Fistful of Bourbon isnt bad. Its a bit light, but for a simple bourbon to share with friends or mix a cocktail with it works just fine.

    Fistful Of Bourbon Tasting Notes

Nose: Sweet & light. Initial hints of fruit. Apple, pear, dried fig. Theres a prominent aroma of cinnamon and hints of licorice.

Palate: An initial rye spice is a little sharp but is ultimately overcome by a sweeter profile. Flavors of licorice, corn, and fruit sit over a citrus background. The flavors are distinct yet mild.

Finish: I didnt taste much buttery toffee on the palate, but I feel it with the finish. I wouldnt describe it as toffee, but certainly buttery or creamy.

Fistful of Bourbon is a blend of five straight American bourbons ? literally a damn fistful. Created by William Grant & Son?s Master Blender Brian Kinsman, who was awarded the 2017 ISC Master Distiller of the Year, and Kelsey McKechnie, William Grant & Son?s Whisky Blender, who happens to be the world?s youngest female Apprentice Malt Master. After sampling loads of straight bourbons, they landed on five that make up the complex, yet smooth flavor profile they were searching for. A touch of sweetness, green/leafy/floral, warm spice/nutmeg, buttery toffee, and notes of cinnamon/licorice all blended together to make one bourbon that?s big, balanced and stands apart from all the rest. Not for nothin? Fistful was awarded a Double Gold medal at the 2019 International Spirits Challenge and a Gold medal at the 2020 San Francisco Spirits Awards. Seems like one mighty fine bourbon ya?ll shouldn?t miss out on!

    Fistful Of Bourbon Overview

Theres not much history here to discuss. In 2018, William Grant & Sons launched Fistful of Bourbon. It came right after they bought Tuthilltown Spirits, the distillery of Hudson Whiskey.

Fistful of Bourbon is a blend of 5 straight bourbon whiskeys. Each bourbon represents a finger, 5 making a full fist. Each is also meant to provide a specific flavor that balances sweet and spice. Kelsey McKechnie, a 2013 West Scotland grad oversees the bourbon as Master Blender.

William Grant & Sons is protective of their products, as is quite common in the scotch business. They havent released the mash bill, nor the distilleries the bourbon was sourced from. I presume they use whiskey from Tuthilltown Spirits in New York, and then the usual suspects of MGP in Indiana, Heaven Hill in Kentucky, but we really dont know.

Heres what we do know. The mash bill is at least 51% corn, and each bourbon in the blend has been aged a minimum of two years. These are simply requirements to be labeled a blend of straight bourbon whiskeys. Fistful of Bourbon is bottled at 90 proof, 45% ABV.

    Whiskey Review: Fistful Of Bourbon

Im generally a fan of the products coming out of William Grant & Sons. From their Hudson Manhattan Rye to their Monkey Shoulder Scotch, they have a solid product line with something for every occasion. Many of their most successful brands owe their popularity to the quality of the blending so when I heard that they were making a blended bourbon that paid homage to one of my favorite spaghetti westerns, I knew I had to give it a shot.

Summary Of Fistful Of Bourbon Review

Fistful of Bourbon is a flavorful blend of 5 different straight bourbons from 5 different distilleries. Whereas most whiskeys wont use being a blend as a selling point, Fistful of Bourbon broadcasts that its a blend of 5 bourbons. For a brand to use this as a large part of their marketing, its funny that they give you zero hints on what exactly goes into this blend, though.

Many people want to know what theyre drinking and where its sourced from. I mean, I like to know, but Im really more interested in drinking good whiskey, and for $25, thats what Fistful of Bourbon is.

I feel confident in recommending Fistful of Bourbon to anyone, although it may be more a mixing bourbon to the more experienced drinker. At the end of the day, the only way to know if you would like this bourbon is to go out and pick up a bottle!
