Shipping Bourbon Out Of Kentucky

You can get a bottle of our delicious bourbon (or any of ...

I dont think any of the 3 major shippers allow for regular consumers to ship alcohol. USPS for sure doesnt allow it. UPS and FedEX allow it with an account and an alcohol shipping agreement.

Have you considered getting a special case and just checking it on the plane? I have several relatives that have a case for wine that they take with them on certain trips and they check it on the plane.

You can also buy individual bags that allow you to put the alcohol in your suitcase but will protect your belongings if the bottle happens to break. Ive brought back liquids in my suitcase, just wrapped them in my clothes really well. Never had a break yet.

Just check with your airline first on their specific rules but the TSA does allow it for checked bags within certain rules.

Distilleries are allowed to ship bourbon for consumers to certain states but I don’t think California is one of them.

Edited: 2 years ago

Believe it or not until last year, distilleries could not ship bottles home to consumers in any states. Kentucky passed the law last year allowing it. At this point, it depends on the individual state of the consumer/recipient as to whether the bourbon can be shipped home.

This was last year, I haven’t found if any states have been added in the meantime.

I actually shipped bourbon out of state several years ago via USPS … it got to the respective recipients . I wrapped the bottle and box with bubble wrap AND paper so it wouldn’t slosh around.

Its Time To Let The Us Postal Service Ship Alcoholic Beverages

United States Postal Service mail carrier Frank Colon, 59, loads his truck and organizes packages … for his route amid the coronavirus pandemic on April 30, 2020 in El Paso, Texas.

The growth of the internet has had a dramatic impact on retailing in America. Direct to consumer shipments have soared. Over the last five years the number of packages shipped in the US has increased by 50% to over 16 billion packages in 2020. Thats the equivalent of around 3,000 packages per second.

At the same time, digital delivery of bills, documents and correspondence has led to a sharp decline in the daily volume of mail. In 2006, the US Postal Service delivered 213 billion pieces of mail, of which around three billion units were packages. By 2020, the volume of mail deliveries had dropped to just 129 billion units, although packages had increased to over 7.3 billion units.

2006 was the peak year for USPS deliveries, not surprisingly it was also the last year that it was profitable. Domestic mail revenue decreased from $60.6 billion in 2007 to $38.7 billion in 2020.The decline occurred even though package revenue almost tripled, from $9.9 billion in 2007 to $28.5 billion during the pandemic year of 2020.

Over the last 14 years the USPS has lost $87 billion. Moreover, according to its own recently published strategic plan:

But What About Shipping Alcohol To A Muslim Country

There are currently 16 countries around the world that observe complete prohibition. While most of the countries are majority Muslim, not all are. Some of those countries have a U.S. military presence.

No, you should not ship alcohol in a care package to your deployed sweetie when theyre in a dry country. But honestly, if you follow the rules, you shouldnt send booze at all. Its not just illegal to send it to a Muslim countryits illegal for you to send it within the United States too.

If you still want to send alcohol and your loved one is in a country that prohibits it, I think you need to take a deeper look at the situation. Why do you want to send a prohibited substance in the first place? What is the worst-case scenario for your deployed loved one if theyre caught? What are the consequences? Could not abiding by the rules of another country cause issues for your deployed loved one? Will you make their life harder?

Can I Get Whiskey Delivered To My Doorstep

December 14, 2021 | Zak Kostro

Getting your favorite whiskey in the mail can be a thornyand sometimes illegalprocess. But things are changing, even if only slowly. While alcohol laws vary across the 50 statesand even among towns and citiessome state governments are pushing aggressively to have whisky delivered to your home more easily.

In California, wine lovers have been allowed that luxury for many years, but the Golden States distilleries are more constricted. Its the same story across much of the nation: Most states permit wine to be shipped directly, but only 11 states, plus Washington, D.C., have the same rule for spirits.

The push is on to level that playing field, says Chris Swonger, who is president of spirits industry trade group DISCUS, citing a number of related bills put forward in state legislatures over the past several years. He also points to a DISCUS survey of more than 2,000 spirits drinkers showing that 80% believe direct shipping should be allowed. In a separate question, the survey found that 75% agree that wine and spirits should be subject to the same shipping laws.

Like other craft distillers, 2BAR Sprits in Seattle has only been able to ship in-state but that has been helpful all the same.

The Best Way To Ship Alcohol

How to protect your precious cargo

Its a feeling weve all experienced. Youre out of town and you encounter a new-to-you beer that makes you say wow. Whatever delight it gives you is then immediately drowned out by the realization that it isnt for sale at your local store, and you may never drink it again unless you ship some home.

For me, this sensation was brought about by a recent trip to my old stomping grounds, Chicago. A few weeks ago, I was visiting friends and we met up at the tap room at Half Acre, which has has steadily risen to prominence in the Midwests microbrew scene over the past decade. After sampling their new and limited production Plane Wave IPA and Pennon wild ale I was determined to get both back to Brooklyn with me. The only question was how do you ship beer?

Unfortunately, I lacked the foresight to pack an extra duffel and thus had to look into shipping options. Thats when things got a little murkierand extralegal!

No matter what you’re doing and what service you use to ship, remember: Bubble wrap is your best friend. Tightly wrap each individual bottle and six-pack before you get to your shipping store. As a guideline, you will want approximately two inches of bubble wrap encasing the beer. Youll also need a sturdy, corrugated, shipping box and a garbage bag.

Im gonna give it to you straight: no. As a regular, ol person, you cannot send alcohol to someone else in the mail. Its considered a restricted substance, which means that there are safe, legal ways to do it however, because youre an individual and not a licensed company, you cant do that. As The Usps Continues To Struggle Congress Has An Opportunity To Change The Game By Finally Allowing It To Ship Beverage Alcohol Of All Kinds

For decades, winemakers have been legally allowed to ship bottles of wine directly to customers via private shipping companies. This has enabled vineyards from Napa to the Finger Lakes to sign up tourists for lucrative mail-order clubs and send bottles purchased on-site directly to the customers home. It has also generated revenue for the carriers without any notable problems. Despite this proof of concept, the struggling U.S. Postal Service is forbidden by Congress to accept alcohol shipments of any kind. But that may soon change.

Congress is giving alcohol shipping a fresh look in light of the USPS ongoing revenue struggles, as well as the growing popularity of shipping and delivery of everyday household goods. Democratic Rep. Jackie Speier of California, Republican Rep. Dan Newhouse of Washington and Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley of Oregon have introduced the USPS Shipping Equity Act, which would allow the Postal Service to mail beverage alcohol products directly from licensed producers including distilleries, breweries, wineries and cideries to legal-drinking-age consumers in states that allow direct-to-consumer alcohol shipping.

    Consumers Want Everything Delivered

The measure is well-timed. Not only do 47 states allow shipments of wine, but 10 states plus Washington, D.C., also allow shipping of spirits and this number is growing. Since the pandemic, six additional states have temporarily permitted distillers to ship to in-state consumers. Due to the overwhelmingly positive reaction from distillers and consumers, some of these states, such as Virginia and California, are now considering making direct-to-consumer shipping of spirits a permanent option.

Congress is right to view this, in part, as a golden opportunity to help the struggling USPS. Given the, the Postal Services’ long-term viability will hinge on its ability to capture more of the demand for package delivery. The expansion of alcohol shipping is a rare opportunity to compete for an emerging portion of the package delivery market. But Congress must act quickly for the USPS to be able to take advantage, as the bill requires a two-year waiting period between passage and implementation.

The Distilled Spirits Council estimates that if the law is passed promptly, it would generate $180 million in annual revenue for the USPS, which would provide a much-needed boost to this essential federal agency and its more than 600,000 workers and employees. Its no wonder that the majority of Postal Service unions and associations have offered enthusiastic endorsements of the legislation.
