Where To Buy Bob Dylan Whiskey

We Asked Heavens Door About The Musicians Inscrutable Tasting Notes

Bob Dylan Launching Whiskey Company Called Heaven’s Door | Billboard News

He gives me Bob-like feedback.

Thats the best way that Master Blender Ryan Perry can describe the creative process that goes into the Heavens Door whiskey brand, a co-creation of the 80-year music legend and Spirits Investment Partnership .

Now three years old, Heavens Door has won numerous accolades for its American whiskey releases, including a Double Gold at this years San Francisco World Spirits Competition for the limited-edition, just-launched Master Blenders Edition .

The core releases of Heavens Door include a Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Double Barrel Whiskey and Straight Rye Whiskey finished in cigar barrels from Vosges, France. As well, there are a number of limited editions and a Bootleg Series of releases.

As we noted back in 2019, Dylan is a full partner in the brand, and the singer is featured prominently in marketing campaigns. As well, the bottles artwork is derived from Dylans sculptures crafted at Black Buffalo Ironworks, and the singer provided the brand with well, some inscrutable tasting notes during the whiskeys creation.

That said, he was pretty straight forward but light on details during the brands launch, when he offered this quote about Heavens Door via a press release: We wanted to create a collection of American whiskeys that, in their own way, tell a story. Ive been traveling for decades, and Ive been able to try some of the best spirits that the world of whiskey has to offer.

Is Bob Dylans Whiskey Any Good

In terms of its primary focus, Heavens Door Double Barrel Whiskey is a whiskey drinkers whiskey. Its association with Bob Dylan is an optional element that adds a bit of playful flavor. Overall, the whiskey has a pleasing taste and presentation with a particularly strong palate, which is sure to please most people.

Heavens Door Will Soon Have Roots In Nashville

Heavens Door whiskey is currently sourced from several different producers in the Midwest, but the brand has always planned to one day operate from its own distillery. Heavens Door sought locations in Nashville, Tenn., home of one of Americas favorite spirits and the location where Dylan recorded three of his albums. In 2019, the brand announced plans to renovate a 160-year-old church located on Elm Street to house its new distillery and brand center.

Just in time for Bob Dylan’s 80th birthday, the singer’s Heaven’s Door Whiskey brand has unveiled its latest release: a limited-edition collaboration with Redbreast Irish Whiskey. Dubbed the “Master Blenders Edition,” the new whiskey is billed as “a tribute to both American and Irish artistry and whiskey.”

The “Master Blenders’ Edition” whiskey starts with Heavens Doors 10-year aged low rye bourbon, and is finished for 15 months in Redbreasts signature 12-year-old Irish Whiskey casks. What you get: a smooth and flavorful whiskey with notes of leather, nut and spice as well as sherry, citrus, dark fruit and Irish honeycomb.

Heaven’s Door says Dylan was actively involved in the process from start to finish, helping to select the final blend that was bottled, and helping to create the actual bottle itself. The company says the singer was “especially excited about the opportunity to partner with the Redbreast team, given his long history and influence from Ireland in his music and beyond.”

Launched in 2018, Heaven’s Door Whiskey takes its cues from Dylan’s music, with its name coming from his hit song, “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” and its flavor profile inspired by robust notes mixed with good, old-fashioned whiskey-making tradition. Bob Dylans Latest Gig: Making Whiskey

    • Read in app

In late 2015, an unexpected name popped up in the liquor industry press: Bob Dylan.

A trademark application for the term bootleg whiskey had been filed under Mr. Dylans name. Among those who noticed the news was Marc Bushala, 52, a lifelong fan and a liquor entrepreneur whose bourbon brand, Angels Envy, had just been sold for $150 million. Mr. Bushala said he immediately spent weeks obsessing over this concept of what a Dylan whiskey could be.

So he reached out, and after being vetted by Mr. Dylans representatives, Mr. Bushala who speaks branding jargon like flavor profile and name exploration in an earnest Midwestern accent talked to Mr. Dylan by phone, and proposed working together on a portfolio of small-batch whiskeys. As he saw it, there was just one problem: The name bootleg, while an apt Dylanological pun, wasnt quite right for a top-shelf liquor. Might Mr. Dylan, Nobel laureate, be open to some name exploration?

It was a little bit daunting, Mr. Bushala said of his pitch.

But it worked. Next month, he and Mr. Dylan will introduce Heavens Door, a collection of three whiskeys a straight rye, a straight bourbon and a double-barreled whiskey. They are Mr. Dylans entry into the booming celebrity-branded spirits market, the latest career twist for an artist who has spent five decades confounding expectations.

Sometimes you just get a long look, Mr. Bushala said with a laugh, and youre not sure if thats disgust or approval.

What Beautiful Packaging: Bob Dylan Bootleg Whiskey

    Rick Lingle | Nov 02, 2020

Bob Dylan, one of the world’s most influential and groundbreaking artists, has an entrepreneurial side as well. He’s been involved for the past several years in Heaven’s Door Spirits, a collaboration with Spirits Investment Partnership. Referencing one of the artists many hits, it’s Dylans first and only consumer brand partnership in a 50-year run as a worldwide cultural icon.

The brand has just announced the second release in the Bob Dylan Bootleg Series. From a packaging design standpoint, its a beauty of a gold-standard hit.

To carry the allusion a step further relative to an old-school vinyl record, Id call it a double-sided hit in that both the primary and secondary packaging are richly appointed.

Named in tribute to Bob Dylan’s famed series of eponymous retrospective album collections, the Bootleg Series is a limited-edition collection of rare whiskeys and special blends. The 2020 release features a cask-strength, 15-year-old Straight Bourbon finished in 30-year-old Jamaican Pot Still Rum Casks.

With fewer than 3,000 bottles offered, the 2019 inaugural release of The Bootleg Series , received The Chairman’s Trophy and was named to the Top 100 Spirits at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge 2020. Shown below, the 2019 Vol 1 release sold out immediately upon release.

The striking, warmly orange hues of his artwork is reproduced with dramatic effect on the bottle. Id forgotten that hes a painter, much less a highly accomplished one.

Heavens Door Double Barrel Whiskey is available in our online shop. That Bob Dylan became known through music is certainly known. Few people are aware that he is also a skilled craftsman and has now even helped to develop a whiskey range. The label of the Heavens Door Double Barrel whiskey bottle was provided with the iron gate of Dylans studios. This Heavens Door was blended and refined from three different whisky styles from Tennessee, which were then aged in oak barrels for over a year.

Each Bottle Is A Work Of Art

Aside from his music, Dylan is a skilled welder well known for his iron gates artwork. In fact, in 2016, Dylan was commissioned to create a permanent piece for the MGM National Harbor casino resort in Washington, D.C. That 26-by-15-foot gate, named Portal along with Dylans other fascinating gate pieces became the basis for the Heavens Door brands design. The bottles were custom created to best showcase the artwork, with each bottle displaying one of the artists designs.

Nashville Tennessee Is Set To Play Host To Folk Icon Bob Dylans Whiskey Distillery Heavens Door Whiskeys

A leading light in pop culture for many a decade, Bob Dylan launched his very own whiskey brand in April of last year. In accordance to Rolling Stone, the new distillery, in the fullness of time have found a home in the revamped Elm Street Church that dates back to 1860 . Although, the holy water has now been replaced to serve something that many may consider not so holy Tennessee whiskeys, bourbons and rye!

The establishment labelled Heavens Door Distillery and Center for the Arts will include a whiskey library , the still house itself, a restaurant complete with a performance stage and an art center that shall house works of art by Dylan himself. With doors expected to swing open in fall of 2020, it comes as no surprise that Heavens Door Distillery and Center of the Arts named after his much celebrated song coincides with the 50th anniversary of the launch of Dylans album Nashville Skyline. Once more unsurprisingly, Knockin on Heavens Door was a pivotal part of said album that received widespread exaltations.

In 2018, Dylan asserted Ive been travelling for decades, and Ive been able to try some of the best spirits that the world of whiskey has to offer. This is great whiskey, he declared during the inauguration of Heavens Door whiskey.

Boy are we over the moon to hear this and cannot wait for Heavens Door whiskey to hit the shelves and for us to have a sweet taster.

The Notes To Look For In Bob Dylan’s Whiskey

Currently, there are three main versions of the liquor under his label . They include a Tennessee Straight Bourbon aged for seven years, a Double Barrel Whiskey, and a Straight Rye Whiskey. There’s also a 10-year-old version of the original Tennessee Straight Bourbon as well.

According to The New York Times, the seven-year Tennessee Straight Bourbon is a straight-forward bourbon with many of the notes you’ve come to expect from oak-aged whiskey. In fact, the young bourbon showcases those classic notes better than you might expect with so little time in the barrel. Perhaps the angels have blessed Heaven’s Door Spirits rather than take their share as it ages.

The Double Barrel Whiskey appears to be the opposite of the Tennessee bourbon. TheNew York Times describes it as “medicinal,” which means it is far more biting than the nose lets on. Unless using it for cocktails where it will be balanced out, you might be better off going with the Tennessee bourbon for the same price.

Finally, the Straight Rye Whiskey has many of the deeper, spicier notes you would expect from a rye. TheNew York Times listed several tasting notes, some of which were “tobacco and a slap of leather” among the aromas. The taste is something of a sweet and spicy chocolate. So if you enjoy the extra spice of most ryes, this is likely a good pick for you.

Best For Sipping: Widow Jane 10 Year

Region: Kentucky/Tennessee/Indiana/New York | ABV: 45.5% | Tasting Notes: Cherry, Light Char, Vanilla

Widow Jane meticulously sources its favorite bourbons from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana and blends them in five barrel batches in Brooklyn, N.Y. Its team wanted to add something that âhad the intense taste of New York in each sip,â so it cuts that blend with limestone mineral water from the famous Rosendale Mines. The distilleryâs signature 10-year-old bourbon presents a nose of nutmeg, cream, vanilla, and a dash of cinnamon, and a palate that flirts with maple syrup, almond, cherry, and orange.

âMy new favorite sipper, and one of the best bourbons I have ever tasted, hands down,â says Anthony Vitacca, an award-winning bartender based in California.

Region: Kentucky | ABV: 43.3% | Tasting Notes: Vanilla, Cinnamon, Oak

Each bottle of this Evan Williams bourbon lists barrel numbers, the date it entered the barrel, and the date of bottling. One of Heaven Hill Distilleryâs most-awarded whiskeys, this reasonably-priced single barrel is big, balanced, spicy and sweet, and enjoys a backbone of honey and citrus.

âItâs straightforward, flavorful, not heavy-handed, and terrific neat,â says Jeff Moses, a Charleston-based spirits entrepreneur. âI like it best when I have it with a meal like a barbecue or a rotisserie chicken.â
