What To Mix With Bombay Gin

Add Limea Wedge Or Measured Juice

The Ultimate Gin & Tonic – Bombay Sapphire Cocktail

Our best tip for making a mixed drink with coke? Add citrus! The acidity of a lemon or a lime cuts through the sweetness of the cola and makes the drink much more interesting. You can add the lime to this gin and coke in two ways:

  • Squeeze in a lime wedge: Before you garnish with a lime wedge, squeeze it into the drink. This will add about 1 teaspoon lime juice.
  • Add ½ ounce lime juice. Want a more pronounced citrus flavor? Measure out fresh lime juice and add it for an even tastier drink.

Opihr: Best Tasting Gin

Although gin isnt typically enjoyed neat, Opihrs spiced gin might just be the exception to the rule. Pronounced O-peer, the brand is a relative newbie on the spirits scene that offers an adventure from start to finish.

Opihr proudly refuses to branch out with its single offering: the Spiced London Dry Gin. Its a drink with a difference thats best enjoyed on the rocks or neat to really taste each and every botanical used. Opihr is made with Indonesian Cubeb berries, Indian black pepper and Moroccan coriander amongst other botanicals, which all come together to produce a unique, spicy drink.

Its a refreshing gin with a citrus edge, with a playful spoonful of spice experienced the whole way through. Dont want to sip it neat? Try it with tonic water but nothing heavier or youll miss out on some of the more subtle flavours.

Im Not Sure Any Cocktail Quite Embodies Summer For Me Than A Classic Gin And Tonic They Are The Epitome Of Cold And Refreshing And So Easy To Make Too

Ive enjoyed this venture into cocktail making but can I share something with you? I dont drink a lotno, really I dont! I come from a family with a history of alcoholism and as a result Im as cautious as any one person could be to be aware of my drinking habits. Sodo I drink the cocktails I make for these posts?

Not always. I only make cocktails that I already know I enjoy or if its something new that Im happy with and consider blog-worthy, then I have definitely tasted the end result but depending on the time of day, that might be all I enjoy. If theyre made later in the day and photographed I just might enjoy a tipplebut not two. Until last night.

I simply LOVE gin and tonics and throwing anything with Bombay Sapphire Gin into the sink was not going to happen. Can you blame me? Despite last nights forecast of potential snow , yesterday was a gorgeous spring day and I definitely think of a Gin and Tonic as one of my favorite warm weather cocktails.

Light and so refreshing with just a touch of citrus from fresh lime juice, its just a perfect warm weather cocktail.

Gin was first created by Dr. Franciscus Sylvus, a Dutch chemist, in the 16th century. Originally developed in an attempt to cleanse the blood of those suffering from kidney disorders, Dr. Sylvus named his creation genièvre, French for juniper, the primary botanical that is a part of the distilling process.

Is The Magic Number

Youll find a beautiful combination of juniper, coriander, angelica, almonds, cubeb berries, lemon peel, orris, liquorice, cassia bark and grains of paradise inside each bottle of Bombay Sapphire. Bombay was one of the first brands to release its botanical makeup in the 1980s, when drinking gin was considered uncool and vodka was the spirit of choice.

The goal was to put the botanicals at the forefront of the campaign and it worked. Suddenly, gin was sophisticated and Bombays popularity rose through the ranks. But, if you were hoping to take this as an opportunity to produce your own bottles of the stuff, think again. Nowadays, Bombays master of botanicals, Ivano Tonutti, closely safeguards the recipe and exact makeup of each ingredient.

Making Bombay Sapphire Gin

The character of Bombay Sapphire comes from juniper, of course, and nine other botanicals: almond, lemon peel, licorice, orris root, angelica, coriander, cassia, cubeb, and grains of paradise.

Brocks team aims for a more delicate style of gin. To ensure this, it uses vapor infusion. Alcohol is evaporated three times in a Carter Head still. The vapors are passed through a mesh with those ten botanicals to pick up the flavors . Water from Lake Vyrnwy is used to adjust the alcohol. In most countries, that is 40 percent . The new Premier Cru is 47 percent. The reason? Well get to that. Bottling tales place in Glasgow.

When the new distillery was constructed at Laverstoke, Bombay also built two greenhouses to assist in growing its own botanicals. One is tropical and the other temperate. These were designed by Thomas Heatherwick, better known for the London Olympic cauldron.

As well as Bombay Sapphire, this distillery makes various other gins in its range. Bombay Original London Dry Gin contains eight botanicals rather than the ten in Sapphire. I have not seen it for a while, but I always enjoyed it and sometimes preferred it to Sapphire as with all gins, these things depend on the use, time of day, occasion, and personal preference.

As a result, the best way to enjoy Bombay Gin is to pair it with something that allows the spirit to breathe without overpowering it. A Gin & Tonic is a classic choice that always goes down well, served with lime, ice and a premium tonic water.

When Making Gin Cocktails Complement And Contrast

The possibilities with gin cocktails are endless. For example, if you go with St. George Terroir gin with its herbaceous Douglas fir and coastal sage botanicals or Oakland Spirits Sea-Gin, you will want to show off those briny or green notes appropriately. While some bartenders might mix like with like , Rivers encourages complementing and contrasting. A citrus-forward gin doesnt need more citrus, so think about what would highlight the citrus and compliment it? The same goes if a gin is floral. Everybody loves to mix patterns in clothes. Why not in drinks?

The cocktail menu at Whitechapel is extensive with drinks like the Narc Angel painting on the canvas of a more classic London dry profilein this case, Fords gin, which plays nicely with maraschino liqueur, orange curaçao, the bitter-sweet of Campari and bright tones of ginger, mint and lemon.

How Strong Is The Sapphire Alpine

Looks are often deceiving and any martini made of liquor alone is going to be a potent little drink. The Sapphire alpine is no exception, especially when the gin is 94 proof. This cocktail’s alcohol content will fall in the 29 percent ABV range. For most people, one is enough, and that’s why the punch really needs to be cut. In the suggested formula, the alpine punch is more like the average wine.

He explains that its easier than ever to find a gin that might feature flavors you prefer, whether you like cinnamon or cardamom, citrus or floral notes, especially if you bring barrel-aged gins into the mix. Barrel-aged gins have proliferated in recent years, particularly from small-batch distillers across the U.S. Longtimers like No. 209 in San Francisco even experiment with different barrels, aging its gin in sauvignon blanc or cabernet sauvignon wine barrels.

An Exotic Spirit With Firmly English Roots

Despite proudly combining international botanicals, there are some parts of Bombay that remain distinctly Britain-centric.

The picture of Queen Victoria on the side of every bottle is a great example of just that. As is the brands quaint distillery, a former paper mill and print works that used to produce bank notes for the Bank of England. Situated about an hour and a half away from London, its home to intertwined botanical glasshouses where both the tropical and Mediterranean botanicals are grown.

Its also home to Henry and Victoria. As well as their older siblings, Tom and Mary. Not the names of master distillers or even Bombays staff members the aforementioned names belong to Bombays original Carterhead stills. And, now that the brand is producing millions of liters of its famous gin, there might be more wholesomely-named additions to the stills family in the immediate future.

Its worth pointing out that some of Bombays unique flavor profile comes from these very stills. Unlike most brands, which choose to steep their botanicals in the spirit, Bombay steams its bouquet in a copper basket.

The result? A more delicate balance of flavors, thanks to Henry and Victorias patience and hard work. This gentle process gives Bombay a distinct difference from many gins, allowing the aromatic flavors to all soak through.

Once this distillation process is over, the gin is blended with water taken from Lake Vyrnwy, Wales and is bottled at 40% ABV.

Bombay Sapphire London Dry Gin

If you look at the list of botanicals in Bombay Sapphire you will notice a few differences from other London dry gins. Grains of paradise, almond, and cubeb berries are not your average gin ingredients and they help this bottle stand apart from the crowd.

Distilled in Cheshire, England, Bombay Sapphires full list of vapor-infused botanicals include juniper, almond, grains of paradise, lemon peel, licorice, orris root, angelica, coriander, cassia bark, and cubeb berries. Its old meets new with this gin. While the brand is relatively young, having launched in 1987, the beautiful array is based on a recipe from 1761.

You cannot miss Bombay Sapphire on the liquor shelf. Its blue bottle has an allure that will catch your eye, though the gin itself is not bluelook to Magellan Gin for that.

This gin is also bottled at 47 percent ABV , so it will stand up to your dry martinis as well as fruity gimlets and the Floradora. Its a staple that you can rely on and a good premium gin to keep in stock.

    Why We Love This Recipe

Along with a dirty martini, the gin and tonic was my first love of a classic cocktail. My parents used to drink them on the back patio once in a while when the weather was nice. The ritual may have hooked me first, but the bracing, herbal qualities of a good gin, the generous squeeze of lime, and the slight, sweet fizz of tonic are what sold me in the end.

    A stiff G& T is:

    • Well-balanced. A little bit herbal // a little bit bitter // a little bit sweet // a little bit sour // a little bit fizzy
    • Breezy and summery at its core, yet classic enough to be welcome all year round
    • SO easy to make. This highball cocktail is neither shaken nor stirred.
    • As refreshing or bracing as you like. We give our suggestions here, but you get to control the pour.
