It’s hard to find a bottle of Irish whiskey that’s truly disappointing. Most are genuinely good, pleasantly smooth to sip, and fun to mix into your favorite Irish whiskey cocktails. Since there are only a few distilleries in Ireland, the offerings are not as numerous as youll find with other whiskey styles. That takes nothing away from the craftsmanship or allure of these smoothly blended whiskeys. There are a number of notable Irish whiskeys you’ll definitely want to seek out, including single malts, small-batch whiskeys, and whiskeys aged in special barrels.

“Got mint in your garden ? Make a whiskey smash by muddling three lemon wedges in a shaker,” says Humberto Marques, Owner/Entrepreneur, and Lead Mixologist at Curfew Bar in Denmark.

From a high-end splurge or two to affordable everyday options for mixed drinks, these are the best Irish whiskey bottles worth adding to your bar.

If You Enjoy A Little Tipple After Dinner Sometimes Like I Do You Must Try This While I Love Love Love Irish Cream The Addition Of Irish Whiskey Definitely Takes It Up A Notch This Irish Cream With Irish Whiskey Cocktail Simply Rocks

For the past several months Ive turned down offers to work with most brands on the cocktails I want to share here. The reasons are mostly practical. Not only do I have enough liquor and liqueurs in my home to start my own small bar, but Ive wanted to avoid the obligation that comes with brand work.

Then a request came in to try this Irish Cream with Irish Whiskey Cocktail; I was a bit too wobbly in the knees at the thought of it to refuse.

Its no surprise if you follow this blog for any amount of time in the summer that Im a bit of a fanatic about my yard. This was my 5th summer here . While I left a magnificent yard at my old home, I thought I was ready for less work and more play.

Funny how if you love gardening, you enjoy the work and it is a form of play and I should have known better than to think I would just quit doing something I loved much less stare at rock, sod, and a couple of pathetic plants and be happy.

So Ive taken a lot of time off. It is pretty amazing considering how small this plot of land is just how much time Ive devoted to it over the course of these five summers; and in doing so Ive had to make some choices. Create, photograph, and get a blog post doneor, for instance, dig up a new area, surround it with river rock and plant some tomatoes, zinnias and perennial herbs in it.

So nice that I realize my days of sponsored posts and paid gigs may just fall by the wayside; I love not owing anyone anything!

How To Make A Whiskey Smash

This is a classic whiskey smash cocktail recipe with a few festive tweaks.

I replaced the lemon with lime to make it green, used agave instead of simple syrup because I rarely have prepared simple syrup on hand, and for St. Patricks Day, I used Irish whiskey.

If you are trying a whiskey smash for the very first time, Id recommend starting with the classic recipe using lemon and regular whiskey instead of the lime and Irish whiskey.

If, however, you are already well acquainted with this cocktail and want to try a fun holiday twist with this green version, by all means, CHEERS!

Shaking Things Up With A Baileys Milkshake

  • 1Choose your ice cream. Chocolate and vanilla are the old standbys, but feel free to get creative. Select flavors that pair well with Baileys. Of course Baileys and coffee ice cream go well together, but consider mint chocolate chip, peanut butter, rum raisin, pumpkin, or cookies and cream.
  • 2Choose your mix-ins. Select flavors that pair well with Baileys, like chocolate, citrus, or Amaretto. Consider adding:
  • Syrups such as hot fudge, caramel, or butterscotch.
  • Fresh fruit like a banana, peaches, or strawberries.
  • Peanuts, walnuts, or almonds.
  • 3Mix ice cream, Baileys, and your mix-ins and blend to your desired consistency. For a single-serving milkshake, measure 1 cup of ice cream with 2 fluid ounces of Baileys and .5 cups of milk and blend in your blender or milkshake maker.
  • For a thicker milkshake, use a little less milk.
  • For a thinner milkshake, use a little more.
  • 4Top your drink with whipped cream. Whipped cream from a can is fine, or you can get ambitious and make your own Baileys whipped cream by whipping 1 cup of heavy cream and 3 tablespoons of Baileys into a metal bowl and beating with an electric mixer until it’s stiff.Advertisement

Whiskey wisdom: The tasting basics of Irish whiskey ...

I really do try to honor my very small Irish heritage with food and drinks from the Emerald Isle on that day in March but this one got away from me. Still I do love me some Irish Whiskey and kept both the recipe and the bottle close at hand; knowing I would still get it made. And today is maybe more perfect than March 17th.

Who doesnt think of lemonade as one of the quintessential summer beverages. This Irish Whiskey Lemonade Cocktail is all adult though. I did have a brand ask me to feature their product and this time around they also provided me with a recipe; something I love, thinking they know best what works with their product.

The main difference between Irish whiskey and American whiskey are the ingredients. Irish whiskey has barley as the primary ingredient and American whiskey can be made from either corn, wheat, or rye.

As a result the taste of Irish whiskey is a lighter and less sweet flavor than its American counterpart. Adding it to a drink with a fair amount of citrus from both lemons and limes left it a bit too tart for me. And I like tart!

While their recipe called for one tablespoon of superfine sugar per drink; I needed to up the amount for mine to fifty percent more than that, or 3 Tablespoons for the two drinks. I suggest you start at the lower amount but add more sugar as your taste demands.

Success comes not to those who desire it most, but to those who care deeply about what they do and feel compelled to create
