What Makes Patrn So Good
Patrón is famous for its attention to detail and commitment to quality. They let their agave plants ripen for eight years before harvesting. Then, their skilled Jimadors find and uproot only the plants with the best sugar content.
After hand-chopping the plants, theyre baked in small brick ovens. Then theyre crushed by a two-ton Tahona wheel and a roller mill.
This mixture is fermented for three days and then distilled. Their batches are then aged in handmade barrels for various times. Patrón Reposado is aged for three months while their longest tequila, Extra Añejo 10 Años, is aged for 10 years.
Patrón never uses any additives or preservatives. When you buy Patrón, you buy pure, delicious liquor.
A Premium Tequila Requires Premium Pias
Patrón tequila is made at the Hacienda Patrón, a colonial mansion located in the Jalisco Highlands in Mexico.
One of the many things that make Patrón specialand allows it to charge drinkers such a steep priceis the fact that its made entirely from the blue weber agave plant.
This is a plant that takes eight or so years to reach the requisite level of ripeness, but Patrón is well rewarded for its patience. By waiting for the plant to fully ripen, the brands jimadores take advantage of its optimum level of sweetness, hand-selecting those piñasor fruitswith the highest sugar content.
The difference is impressive. While the average piña is 22% sugar, those used by Patrón are 26% sugar.
These piñas are then chopped and cooked in small brick ovens for around 70 hours to help the sugars break down. The fruit is then crushed and ground using a mix of the modern Roller Mill method and the traditional Tahona wheel.
The latter is a labour-intensive process that involves chiselling a chunk of volcanic stone into a wheel. This wheel is then pulled with a mechanical arm across the roasted agave hearts to extract the juice.
This method is around 500 years old and originally donkeys were used to haul the stone. Youll be glad to hear no donkeys suffer in the making of Patrón, but their modernised version of the Tahona wheel is part of the reason their tequila tastes so good.

The announcement came out of an interview between food and drink trade magazine The Grocer and Patróns president and chief operating officer Mauricio Vergara.
Vergara told the publication the Patrón brand wanted to focus on growing and protecting production and supply of our core super and ultra-premium tequilas.
These ranges include: Patrón Silver, Gran Patrón Platinum and Patrón Añejo, which he said needed to be Patróns top priority.

The Origin Of Patrn Tequila
THE PATRÓN STORY
We didnt invent tequila, we just perfected it.
Our passion for excellence, quality and perfection guides everything we do. We maintain our consistent high quality by replicating the original small batch process many times over.
PATRÓN is made from only the finest, highest-quality Weber Blue Agave, which gives it its characteristic smoothness and layers of flavor. The agave is stripped to reveal the heart of the plant, the piña, which is then hand-chopped, baked and crushed by a two-ton volcanic stone Tahona wheel and a roller mill. The resulting mixture is fermented for three days, distilled and, in some cases, aged in handmade barrels. Two months at minimum for PATRÓN Reposado and all the way up to ten years for Extra Añejo 10 Años, our oldest tequila. Its no secret that we have a steadfast commitment to crafting the worlds finest tequila, but were just as dedicated to taking care of the resources and people that make it possible. At PATRÓN, weve always been committed to doing our part to preserve the environment and support our people and the community in our birthplace and hometown of Atotonilco el Alto in Jalisco, Mexico.
60 hands from beginning to end touch and inspect each bottle as it moves from person to person, each labeling, numbering, and wrapping the bottles. Each bottle is then hand-polished, and a ribbon is hand-tied around the neck. Our glass artisans measure and mold our iconic PATRÓN Tequila bottles.
Bacardi In The United States
In 1964 Bacardi opened its new US offices in Miami, Florida. Exiled Cuban architect Enrique Gutierrez created a building that was hurricane-proof, using a system of steel cables and pulleys which allow the building to move slightly in the event of a strong shock. The steel cables are anchored into the bedrock and extend through marble-covered shafts up to the top floor, where they are led over large pulleys. Outside, on both sides of the eight-story building, more than 28,000 tiles painted and fired by Brazilian artist , depicting abstract blue flowers, were placed on the walls according to the artist’s exact specifications.
In 1973, the Company commissioned the square building in the plaza. Architect Ignacio Carrera-Justiz used cantilevered construction, a style invented by . Wright observed how well trees with taproots withstood hurricane-force winds. The building, raised 47 feet off the ground around a central core, features four massive walls, made of sections of inch-thick hammered glass mural tapestries, designed and manufactured in France. The striking design of the annex, affectionately known as the ‘Jewel Box’ building, came from a painting by German artist Johannes M. Dietz.
In 2006, Bacardi USA leased a 15-story headquarters complex in . Bacardi had employees in seven buildings across at the time.
The current American headquarters is in . The 300 employees occupy 230,000 square feet of leased office space.

A Review Of Patrn Silver Tequila
The mixability of Patrón Silver is where my fascination truly lies. Sure, it is good to sip, but it is best in a balanced mixed drink with fresh fruits.
It is not limited to just a few fruit flavors, either. We have tried it with everything from orange to blackberry and grapefruit to cranberry. This is a tequila that loves fruit and its waves of sweetened agave come through the back of the fruit in such a delightful way thats hard to resist.

Bacardi And Cuba Today
Bacardi drinks are not easily found in Cuba today. The main brand of rum in Cuba is , produced by a company that was confiscated and nationalized by the government following the revolution. Bacardi later bought the brand from the original owners, the Arechabala family. The Cuban government, in partnership with the French company , sells its Havana Club products internationally, except in the United States and its territories. Bacardi created the Real Havana Club rum based on the original recipe from the Arechabala family, manufactures it in Puerto Rico, and sells it in the United States. Bacardi continues to fight in the courts, attempting to legalize their own trademark outside the United States.

Exploring The Patrn Range: Products And Editions
Patróns best-known bottle is Patrón Silver, a tequila Blanco, coming in at 40% ABV. Its smooth to drink, great for cocktails, crystal clear in colour, with a fruity and citrusy smell, a sweet taste, and a peppery finish.
Patrón Reposado is another approachable and drinkable tequila. Its light amber with a hint of oak, and floral and honey notes.
Patrón Anejo is an amber coloured tequila, aged for twelve months in a combination of French and Hungarian oak and American whiskey barrels. It has a slightly stronger taste with notes of oak, honey, and vanilla, as well as raisin and caramel. Patrón Extra Anejo is aged for three years in oak barrels, and has notes of dried fruits, honey, and vanilla.
Patrón XO is a line of liqueurs that include PatrónXO Cafe, a tequila-based coffee liqueur, great in Martinis or as an ingredient in desserts.
Roca Patrón is one of the brands more premium offerings. The higher price is due to the fact that the agave juice is extracted entirely by the traditional Tahona method.
In 2004, the brand launched The Gran Patrón label, designating the most exclusive bottles in Patróns range.
The brand also has the Patrón Citronge line of fruit liqueurs including Patrón Citronge Orange, Patrón Citronge Lime, and Patrón Citronge Mango.
Of course, theres also the infamously famous Patrón en Lalique series, a bottle of which will set you back at least $7,000.
Patrn Production Is Surprisingly Old
Tequila used to be made with something called the ancient Tahona process, wherein heartless tequila distillers force a donkey to drag a massive volcanic stone over agave hearts prior to cooking and distilling them. Patrón still goes old-school, although they give the donkeys a break and use machinery to drag massive, specially sculpted stones across their agave hearts, yielding a unique vegetal taste that they then mix with a portion of citrusy tequila made with the modern Roller Mill method.

Patrón Silver is a blend of two very differently produced triple distilled tequilas one made using a traditional tahona and fermented with agave fibres, the other made using a modern roller shredder. The blend is packaged in hand-blown individually numbered bottles.
Pine sap, wet cement, faint citrus, pineapple, lavender, white pepper and cinnamon.
Patrn Is Kind Of Like Bordeaux
Speaking of Patróns agave plants, theyre not cultivated at Hacienda Patrón. Like the grapes used to make those mega-expensive Bordeaux wines, the agave plants that go into Patrón are carefully selected from a variety of producers. Its sort of like the difference between making a meal with whatevers in your fridge versus being super rich and picking out the best ingredients from different gourmet stores, most likely while traveling by chopper.

How Is Patron Tequila Made
Patron tequila is made by fermenting the fruit of the blue agave plant. The plant takes a long time to mature, taking nearly eight to ten years to reach the perfect level of ripeness.
For this reason, Patron is often considered a premium spirit because of how difficult it is to produce large quantities. Once the plant has grown to produce fruit with optimal sugar levels, the fruit is then harvested.
The piña is then chopped up and placed in a brick oven to cook evenly on all sides. This allows the sugars in the fruit to break down more easily, which will make it easier for the production of alcohol levels.
The chopped piña is then crushed and ground up. The pulp is left for three days to ferment, and is then distilled in handmade barrels for a minimum of two months. The oldest tequila offered by Patron is their Añejo 7 Años, which is aged for seven years.
