Barrel Craft Spirits New Gold Label Blend Includes Bourbon Aged Up To 25 Years

Its nearly Thanksgiving, which means whiskey brands have been unveiling all of their special high-end expressions for weeks now to give us a head start on potential boozy gift giving ideas. One of the latest to consider comes from Louisville-based blenders Barrel Craft Spirits, with the new BCS Gold Label Dovetail.

Since 2013, Barrell has been sourcing, finishing and blending bourbon, along with other spirits like rye and rum, into some truly excellent releases. In addition to the various batches of the core bourbon lineup, there are some high-end whiskeys in the Gold Label range, which are essentially luxe versions of their already pretty fancy counterparts. Dovetail is an ongoing release consisting of whiskey from Indiana, Tennessee and Canada that is aged in both countries and finished in rum, port and wine barrels. The Gold Label version, which comes on the heels of the Gray Label release, is finished in the same trio of barrel types, including Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon casks. But this new release includes older whiskey aged for up to a quarter of a century in the blend.

Graduates, you may have noticed that your parents have used this pandemic as an excuse to get some work around the house done. I know we have in our house. In hiring a contractor, like every other time Ive hired one, I wanted the work done good, fast and cheap.

But Ive learned you can really only have two of the three. And sometimes only one. You can get it done good and fast, but it wont be cheap. You can get it done cheap and good, but it wont be fast. You can get it done fast and cheap but then the work is going to be bad.

Why?

Its because of resources, time and cost. At some point you have to narrow it down to whats most important to you.

I think this goes for young adults and 2020 graduates. You arent building your house, of course, but you are building your future.

If you build your future good and cheap, will you reach the goals you set for yourself in time for the next milestone? Where will you sacrifice time?

If you build your future good and fast, will you reach your financial goals? If you have a good job and career and reach financial goals but it comes at a cost of your relationship then was it worth the price?

If you build it fast and cheap, will your success come quickly but lack the quality to last. Or will you sacrifice the quality of life that in twenty years you regret?

So how do you find balance?

It has just a 3.5 star rating on Yelp, but Spirits on Bourbon still seems to have a lot of happy customers and is a successful business.

Heres a sampling of reviews that were written after the visit from Jon Taffer:

4 star Yelp review from November 2022:

My boyfriend and I are fans of the show Bar Rescue. A while back we saw this place on the show and instantly looked for it when we first got to Bourbon St.

We never got a chance to check it out in the evening, but when we did visit during the day there was live music and the vibe was pretty chill.

The bartender was really nice and she made us really good cocktails.

Of course my boyfriend ordered the skull cup signature drink which was about $15, but if you bring the cup back you get $5 off.

During our trip here, we came here twice just for the drink. I, myself, liked the drink, but I could do without the jalapeno slice, it gave me acid reflex.

Its not a must see, but its really cool to still see the bar and the signature drink.

New Orleans Cocktail Book Shows City’s Elegant Drink Side

Spirits on Bourbon Barber Chair Experience ~ New Orleans

If your idea of a New Orleans cocktail is a Kool-Aid colored, alcohol-heavy concoction served in a plastic hand grenade or a novelty glass resembling a hurricane lamp, stop thinking like a college freshman on his first trip to Bourbon Street and take a look at the new book from upscale bar owner Neal Bodenheimer.

Cure: New Orleans Drinks and How to Mix Em, by Bodenheimer and food writer Emily Timberlake, is full of recipes for cocktails created at Cure, the craft cocktail bar Bodenheimer founded in 2009. The bar is widely credited with being modern-day New Orleans first destination bar for craft cocktails. The book has recipes for sours, Manhattans, and bittered slings interspersed with some history of New Orleans, its drinking culture and the men and women at Cure who created the drinks.

Bodenheimer, whose family first settled in Louisiana in the 1850s, was a bartender in New York with plans to eventually open a cocktail bar there. But then Hurricane Katrina happened in 2005, and like many New Orleanians who watched the catastrophe unfold in their hometown, Bodenheimer felt an immediate need to return.

I just decided that I wanted … to go back home, he said during an interview with The Associated Press.

Theres Cane & Table and Peychauds in the French Quarter, the restaurant Vals on Freret Street, and just last year his first venture outside New Orleans the restaurant Dauphines in Washington.
