Here’s What You’ll Need To Make It

For this sour apple martini, youll need just a few simple ingredients. Ive even included a simple substitute for the sour mix.

  • Sour apple liqueur the classic is De Kuyper Pucker Sour Apple Schnapps. It’s also bright green, so it’s what gives this drink its classic look and sweet and sour flavor. You can also make this drink with apple brandy, but you won’t get the same color or flavor.
  • Vodka you have a couple of options here. The traditional recipe uses plain vodka. But if you want to experiment, you can try any flavored vodka that goes with the sweet-tart Jolly Ranchers flavor of the sour apple schnapps.
  • Apple juice or cider look for 100% apple juice with no other flavors added. You just want the sweetness of the apples here to stand in for simple syrup. If it’s the time of year that apples are in season, fresh-pressed cider from your local farmers’ market will take the apple flavor up another notch.
  • Lemon juice a little lemon juice, combined with the apple juice, stands in for the sour mix in the traditional appletini recipe and adds to the tart pucker. You can use fresh squeezed lemon juice or bottled lemon juice.
  • Green apple this doesn’t go in the shaker, but it’s used for the apple slice garnish. A Fuji or Granny Smith apple complements the sweet and tart apple flavors and has a beautiful green color.
  • As for bar equipment, youll definitely need a drink shaker to shake and chill your cocktail .

How Long To Let The Apple Vodka Soak

    Carousel Bar Summer Cocktail Recipes

I read that the vodka will have picked up the flavors within a few days. I put mine together before the holidays and frankly forgot about it so it infused for two weeks. It has a delicate flavor of apple and is the most gorgeous color amber. I do not think it can soak too long. You will note the apples begin to oxidize which is due to exposure to the air in the jar. When you are happy with the infusion, strain the vodka into a fresh jar and discard the apples.

Martini Recipes : How to Make a Sour Apple Martini

There are a few major types of apple cider youll find at the store that you can use in this Apple Cider Martini. If you can find local cider, even better! But take care when youre shopping to find these two things:

    • Look for unfiltered apple cider. Some apple cider is sold unfiltered, which has the pulp and sediment. Other cider is sold filtered, which is basically like apple juice. Choose unfiltered if you can find it: it has the most developed flavor and best color. Using filtered cider, the drink is much lighter in color.
    • Look for pasteurized apple cider. Pasteurizing apple cider makes it more shelf stable. If its unpasteurized, it can turn into hard cider or apple cider vinegar over time, so you should drink it within 2 weeks. Unpasteurized cider has more risk of bacteria, so we recommend pasteurized.
